Hey

I was wondering what people here had for WACOM tablets here. I'm on an old tiny Graphire 1 and I'm finding that it's really just not doing the job for me. I know that unless your tablet is as large as your monitor, there will always be proportional up-scaling but having 3X5 inches of tablet on a 17 inch monitor set at a comfortable 1280 X 960 resolution is getting to be a real pain in the ass. It's a problem I've only really started to notice over the past year or so as I began drawing much more frequently and using my elbow and shoulder as much if not more than my wrist. My brush strokes really aren't as bold and confident as I want. It feels more like I'm preforming brain surgery on a pigeon than painting.

To those of you who do a lot both of drawing and digital painting; what size tablet do you recomend? I know that comfort with a tablet is relative for everyone but I'm just trying to get a rough idea.

my 6x8 intuos2 is a dream.
I used a 3x5 graphire 3 that belonged to my roommate a few times when I was still in school.....couldn't do anything cool with it. The 6x8 feels like a hundred times bigger even though it's not quite double the size.
I'd really like to try a bigger one too, but the 6x8 is more than sufficient for my needs so far.

Im realy comfortable with my setup, I have a 9X12 intuos2 with a 19in flat crt @ 1600X1200 res.. Its all I ever had. The only thing I would like to upgrade is my Monitor, friggin crt kills my eyes after awhile, and a higher res would be nice. When I was looking into buying a tablet at the end of last year my only concern was the up-scaling you were talking about, so I got a big one :D I just recently started sketching with it using the pencil tool in painter and I can hardly tell it apart from a real pencil! Any ways, I always enjoy your work and I cant believe you use such a small tablet! I would love to see what you could do with a larger more comfortable one. cheers

I have a Graphire 3 6x8 with a 17in crt monitor and the scaling for me is fine, if I haven't used it for a while it might take me a few minutes to get use to. If I did more digital stuff then I'd probably want to go up one size and change to an intuos2 but atm I'm trying to focus more on my drawing and natural medias. When I use my Tablet with my 15in Laptop scaling is barely noticeable and the tablet is the perfect size for my Laptop bag so taking it anywhere is extrememly convienent.

I think another reason I've only just recently picked up on the problem is because I've been working with my graphire on the 15 inch monitor six year old iMac (333mhz with 96mb of RAM) for so long. That computer was cooked by a lightening strike and I now have a 800mhz G4 tower with almost a gig of RAM. This of course allows me to really push painter a lot harder while working on a larger monitor on a higher resolution.

I guess right now the minimum size I'd settle for is an Intuos 6X8. Given what you guys have been saying about them, I think it'll do just fine. I just wish I could take one out for a spin before I buy one, which won't happen untill december unfortunately.
