Hey guys, here's a piece done in Painter and Photoshop and I'm hoping for some feedback on it, even though it's pretty basic. I'm an aspiring 3D artist so I'm working on concept style art for my 3D/Games portfolio. I'm just starting to work on my 2D skills and I'm self teaching so any and all comments are welcome and appreciated. What's working or not, colors, what would you do to make it better, whatever. Thanks for any replies.

I'm not going to put on a collar and preach at you or anything along those lines. However, it's been my experience...and I think I'm not alone when I say this, Your 2D skills should be as tight, clean, and pro as you can possibly have them regardless if you go into painter, photoshop, or even into the digital realm to begin with. What drives the beauty of the digital medium is the bedrock foundation of life drawing, perspective, form, composition, and the rest of the fundamentals of the 2D world. Tablets, a massive Ghz screaming machine that needs it's own power grid, and multi hundreds of dollars worth of software can't cover up the basic need for the building blocks of illustration.
Self teaching artist that you are, I could recommend a whole slew of books on anatomy, lighting, perspective, etc., but I think if Im right Bud Plant has a pretty decent selection of them. I'm sure someone on the forums could tell you of another place that has even better.
I realize how eager people can be to jump straight away into digital, the temptation is tantalizing when you see the work that can be created, but ultimately it still boils down to traditional skills. I wish you nothing but the best!
