I have a student card (= cheap drinkz?!?!) and I'm really enjoying this .org n wanna meet up with other artists who hang here and industry types (typecast Haha!) for a social interaction and some kinda interlude to actual industry work and tha like...(thinking of which; $6 life drawing classed at southbank Griffith uni wed-nightz) and such!

We should definately sort something out, even if it's only 5 or so people. I personally can't do wednesday nights, but we can just go to a bar or something whenever and jam. I'm sure there's a few more people at least from brissles anyway.

I'll be in for shizzle, i'm pretty sure rayk will be in if i haven't mortally offended him in irc (ANIMU!!), and i should be able to bully karma into it. I have a friend(!) at uni who's into illustration who i might be able to coerce into joining ca and coming along too.

Suggestions for venue is what we need. I'm not a real barfly so i don't know any good places. Also what day/time is cool for people? i guess just a pub on a friday arvo would be nice (i'm trying to steal form's ideas from the sydney sketchgroup).
We could check out the art gallery, though i'm not sure exactly what percent is ridiculous post modern art and if anything would appeal to us there, i haven't been for yonks. i guess the museum might be fun to check out and draw dinosaur bones in, or we could go all watercolor on that lovely brown river that we all love so much. Maybe just hanging out in the sunshine at southbank would be nice. drawing people sitting around...i'm liking that idea. i'll bring the doritos. of course that way involves alot less alcohol consumption unless we migrate to a bar. could be a good arvo/night if we get a good group going.
Honestly i have no organisational experience at all, help me out here!
edit:aha...karma suggested a bbq. i'm thinking friday afternoon bbq at southbank parklands, then migration to pub afterwards. how does this sound to peoplez?
edit edit: OK TO CLARIFY this is going to be AFTER the 23rd of october as me and rayk both have uni until then. All you other bums can wait another 2 weeks, seeing as we've procrastinated this long already :s
i was just thinking i asked my boss for more hours on friday... is tuesday ok or are we working? if it's not that's fien, i'll just get the friday off. I'm thinking we'll just organise the one for now, and if it's a success we'll do some more. And i can pawn off organising on someone else. I'm too lazy for this. far far too lazy.

Am now in Mount Isa peoples, so unfortunately I won't be coming @:-P
Can't really think of a location suggestion either. All the liquered up venues I went to were too dimly lit to actually see what you'd be drawing. Maybe the Pig and Whistle?

HI! I am also moving to brissy.. :) from melbourne..
was in sydney before that.. but yeah..
I have been attending melbourne sketch group for sometime now, and we usually drew in cafes that overlooks a tram stop. That was we get to see people standing around and so on.. another great place we found was this cafe that had this massive chess game happening on weekend.. crowd always gather around and it's awsome.
Will be nice to meet you guys.
Adam, :) see u shortly mate.
EDIT, btw melbourne sketchgroup was always on Sunday 1pm in the city.. weekend seems like a better idea, drawing at night can be shit unless you are indoors.. city is always best coz then you can move around if you need to. drawing inside a cafe or restaurant is not a good idea.. unless it's overlooking something.. Shopping mall is also bad coz people tend to wander off quick so it's too hard to draw them moving.. Park is good but when it rains it can seriously ruin everything..

Just a reminder that there is a great Traditional Art School offering longer poses, cast drawing and excellent tuition in Brisbane. From my own experience I worked hard at getting good at drawing prior to attending JAAS in Sydney and I know from experience that having a good teacher can really bridge the gap to a deeper understanding of drawing and painting.
