PBS had a great show (from what I heard) about them. I, unfortunetly, missed it. But for all that couldn't watch the program they made a web resource that covers most of the information.
Featured: Botticelli, Donatello, and (my favorite), Michelangelo, etc.
I was really lucky, in that I got to go to The Getty (http://www.getty.edu) last year and see many of these artist's pieces. It was life-altering stuff. I suggest that anyone living in the West Coast to go check it out.
