View Full Version : WIP - Centaur Pig (Update 5/15)

I decided to bust out this sketch from a couple of months ago and rework it. I want to take it to a full digital painting.

I'm having trouble with getting the back (his right) hand to look right though. I've played around with different positions and hand "expressions" but nothing seems to look right. I've taken that hand out a couple of times but I think I'd like to keep it in.

Anyways, crits and comments are much appreciated! Thanks! :thumbsup:

Oh wow, what a cool sketch! I love your ability to define the muscles of the body and get into lots of detail. It's a really interesting idea too, don't reckon I've ever seen a pig centaur before! Ugh, don't you hate it when you can't draw hands properly? Well, looking at his pose, I would think that it would probably suit him best (and also probably be a lot easier) to draw his back hand as a clenched fist. I think it fits with his pose. I dunno, just my idea! Good luck with this, can't wait to see it finished!

The hands look great to me. It`s his left leg I`m more, uhm, I just get the feeling it doesnt look good. It just doesnt seem to attach to the body correctly.

ChocolateMoose - Thanks for the compliments! Yes, I hate it when I can't get hands to look right. :bash:

SinisteR - You can't really tell from your perspective, but on the paper you can see a zillion erasures from trying to get that leg to look right. I put it in 10 (or so) different positions and this was the one that stuck. I used reference (albeit, not the best) for the muscles and the leg position. I thought it looked weird because it was at full extension but...eh...ref knows best I guess.

Either way, it's my first crack at a horse-type character so the most important aspect to me is the learning.

2-3 hours into coloring. Turning out a lot better than I though it would. :)

I've never messed around with the Airbrush brushes in Painter...I think I found a new friend.

Edit: The background is a remnant from my first pass at coloring. It sucks, I know...

It's starting to look a little strange. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I think it has to do with the difference in shadows between the upper and lower body. I'll probably redo the lower body tomorrow.
