i was wondering what resources a young buck could use for contacts in the film industry. Are there any annuals or books out there with film contacts? who would be the best person to actually try to talk to? art directors, production designers, directors, etc?
id love to get some work in the industry, but it seems so close-knit and all about who-you-know.

hONESTLY, its always who you know. Yes it is a very tight knit industry.... if you want in, LA or NY (and you almost have to be there). NY when you want to make it....LA if you are already in. Emails and sending demos don't make an impact like showing up with one in your hand. Especially at entry level..... noone is going to meet you and tell you their million dollar idea, (whether it is or not). Storyboards are an excellent way to break in because a lot of the time you are commisioned to do them and the gigs up. People spread the word that you did a quick and efficent job, as well as you have something to take home with you to show other employers. Industry experience is everything! No matter how crappy the independent film you start with is..... your story boards can get you the next gig.....until the industry finally accepts you as their own. Just make sure each boards your doing are improving each gig. Showing versitility is important too! www.famousframes.com

www.craigslist.org (this one is reeeal shady, but a way to pick up money fast.) click new york when you get there and your catagory of interest......hundreds of houses are posting everyday because they are short handed. Shady = they are posting to get cheap work, not always but mostly.
CONTRACTS CONTRACTS CONTRACTS!!!! Day rates make everyone happy.................. established company in NY.......dont feel bad asking 200 per day and up.
Have fun and good luck.
