For anyone in New York, this is usually a fun night. One part drawing, one part socializing:

Thursday night, the 17th, the Society of Illustrators will be hosting their "Jazz and Sketch" night.

$15.00 Includes: models, live music, and a light buffet (probably pasta.) They also have a full bar, drinks are extra.
6-11:00 PM
128 East 63rd Street.

It's a great evening....How many places can you drink and draw underneath a Wyeth painting, or Rockwell, Cornwell.....

I thought about SoI, but $15 always seemed a bit steep; also heard the life drawing bit is usually just drawing the band, not nude models

let me know if I'm wrong -- I usually hit SVA's weekly life drawing sessions, but that's shut down til fall

any NY'ers here know of other options?

grey check out the new york thread in the local artists group section. I'm currently attending spring studio for 7 bucks a session. Great models and non intrusive instruction.

Hi Grey,

This event at the Society is equal parts drawing and socializing. They do have typical sketch nights twice a week (I'm not sure of the cost) but this particular night is a bit of a party. It starts off with drawing nude models and live music and then turns into people hanging out at the bar. The $15.00 goes into paying for the food, music, and models.

15$ is steep? Are you joking? If I lived in NYC I would go in a heart beat, but I don't..

Definitely go if you can!! The one in March was one of the best nights I've had since coming to the city, and there's no problem getting a spot drawing the models. There's a bunch of horses, chairs, and spots on the floor. The music is awesome, the food is tasty, the drawing is fun, and meeting everyone is great!!!

dakoscwash- hey don't write this off so quickly, if you view it as a light dinner combined with figure drawing and, more importantly, a chance to network with established award-winning illustrators, $15 is CHEAP.

I intend to go a couple times in the future even though it requires be to take a 2 hour train from New Haven.

EDIT: oops, misread dako's comment, my post shouldn't have been directed at him.

SVA is $6, someone else said Pratt's $7, so yeah $15 sounds a little steep (I did the math right, I think . . . )

SoI's an amazing place and their event sounds brilliant for socializing/networking, I'm not putting it down at all. I just prefer the focused 3hrs of drawing from live models under the supervision of an art instructor, for half the price.

Irene - thanks for the info
