Hi everyone, I guess the first thing I should do before I begin this sketchbook is introduce myself and say a little of what I hope to accomplish. I'm 21 years old and have been drawing for quite a while but never, I would say in any really skilled capacity. I never took classes (heck I think the last time I took an art class was back in grade 9) but drew pretty regularly for fun (just in class or while waiting for the bus). Instead in terms of studies I directed my focus to another area of the arts. Recently however, my life switched gears a bit and it made me reconsider where I'm going. To be honest I don't know what the next step is for me. Right now I'm working, saving some money and doing some thinking. However one of the things I love doing, and have done without any concrete thought of the future, is art. I primarily draw, although I'm very interested in learning about painting and digital art. That said on to the thread.

I'm hoping this thread can act quite literaly like a daily sketch post. I've been amazed by the amount of talent and dedication demonstrated by this community and it's inspired me to do this. I hope to be able to post often. Please check back regularly and PLEASE COMMENT AND CRITICIZE. I value the opinions of such a diverse of people who obviously demonstrate talent and passion. Help me out. I'm am by no means experienced and consider myself a total newb. But I am trying to learn. Thanks.

From the same ref. Hmmm... her torso doesn't seem properly connected to her legs.

Here's a couple stick people I did from observing people at work.

Some more stick figures. Watching people on the escelator.

This one's a little weird. Just played with some of the shading so it doesn't look totally "right".

This is another one from loomis. God her face looks terrible!

I like this one for some reason. It was a quick doodle of a women right in front of me on the subway.

Other views of loomis woman. Face looks a little better.

Well, that first figure looks a pretty good, though I think there may be some issues with her right leg. The other two loomis pics near the bottom seem a bit off balance.

As for the stick figures, you might want to work on a formula for those that works. If you can keep the proportions right and give them energy at that early stage, it will help immeasurably when you build on top of them. Looking good so far, keep it up.

Welcome to the sketchbook forum. Be prepared to learn a lot and hopefully have a lot of fun doing it. Keep up the anatomy studies and dont worry about the faces looking right. In fact, you can focus strictly on the body for a while...dont even worry about facial features. Break things down for yourself and focus on one thing at a time. For instance, I am only working on hand bone structure right now.

And for goodness sakes dont forget to push those books away and just draw when you feel like it. :) Work that imagination!

Well, I will be checking up on you...so keep updating...and have FUN!

SeraphSword: Thanks for looking and commenting man. I know what you mean about the top figures leg (actually I think both her legs are little screwy). For some reason I can't seem get the figures centred on the pages (which is why thy look a little like they're leaning over). Have to work on that. About the stick figures: those sketches are just from me (not using a technique to show more form). Now that I've found this loomis book (I can't believe you can download this book for free!!) I'm going to try to use some of his applications of stick people. I really want to try to get away from only being able to draw the stiff frontal view. I want to show some life in the figure. Thanks again for the advice and comments. Check back.

Van: Hey, thanks for the warm welcome. Trust me I know I'm going to learn alot and have fun already. I've been lurkng for about a week and have been amazed at some of the stuff I see posted. Don't worry about the faces right now? Ok I"ll try not to, it's just hard not cringe when it turns out wonky. But I'll take your advice and focus just on the body. And I'll be sure to keep having fun.

I'll post more later tonight (my scanner is kinda not accescible right so...)so check back everyone. I'd love to hear from you. (C&C or just to say hello)

Looks like you are starting to get a good grasp of form. You need feel yourself out and see what you want to work on first. Then attack it.
