As fooxoo said, your pencil shading is a little weird and flattens the pieces. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though.
Another thing, I'd like to see more of those dynamic poses. An awful lot of the character pieces on this page have both feet planted firmly on the ground. When you do try more dynamic pieces it becomes rather stiff (like the first one on this page). I hope you feel that you bring the knowledge you gain from the studies with you to the imaginated stuff.
Ellers ser det veldig bra ut. Du ser jo ut til å ha god kontroll på det digitale. Er vel bare å stå på i samme retning. :)

nice and moody piece :D
i would try to use less blacks in your pieces. it doesn't really add to the mood usually and you could use darker versions of other colors that are close to black.

Great texture there. She looks awfully high-breasted though. Maybe the highlight needs to be toned down and/or extended past the crop at the bottom.

Eeey :)
Last batch of digital grayscale works is great! Your values just popped to another level, really nice. Though your coloured stuff needs abit of help I think. Try to stay out of completey black shadows, at least when working with big colourschemes. They do feel dirty, or like holes. I know it's been said before but your stuff would really kick it if you started using some colours in the shadows. Try some secondary lightsources too, I think it'll help!
Anyways. I'm just talking nonsense as usual. Keep working you!

your lines portrait the figure pretty well but it seems that they lack confidence when you draw if you sketch your lines out -running over them w/ you pencil a few times. Just try going through a pic once w/o back tracing w/ your pencil
Also you have some great shading thats smooth and shows texture rather well but you are only using a few of the tones you can get w/ your pencil make sure even if its just a doodle to try and get the darkest lines possible w/ a pencil that said you have some great progress, keep it up man
-hope this helps, jedininja

Hey man, long time no speak (its madcat/Tony/Parkour loving dude) lol changed my name again, lost my internet too haha so i gotta use the librarys, anyway, some pretty sweet stuff going down here over at dceptville man, some of the more extreme shading pieces remind me a bit of marko, and some hurricane in there too. the last two pieces on the other page really kicksomeass, keep pumping shit out like that man! lol.
hows the pk going btw? i haven't had much time to do any, and what with winter coming up, gonna slip and break something haha. :$ taking up break dancing instead, and maybe ninjitsu, gonna be a breakdaning ninja, sweet hu.

Hey babe!
You need some stronger poses. Most of your characters looks really awkward in their poses, they need some action in them. Even though you're exaggerating proportions it doesn't help cause they're looking stuff with their poses.
Still doing a great job. Post more you!

Why isn't the foot in image 2 not touching a plane? I like the update, but that image is off on that one regard. Good stuff and good values, though you can probably push them further by either pressing harder or making darker single strokes for rendering.

Hi looking good no crits atm but just to write something..... since I saw you doing hand studies I must just add something I neglected until just recently and that's that the fingers are not as straight as I thought but they get a lot thicker at the knuckles and that thinner as they get to the middle in between the knuckles...making the outlines like two inwards curves. I had to to feel it with my index finger and thumb to actually be able to see how of curve it really is. I knew there were some but not that much as it is heh.
Anyway keep going strong.

The bird is cool. A little weird-looking, but it looks like a good drawing of a weird bird, not a weird-drawing of a regular bird. Dude in the mask looks a little stiff, but good atmosphere.

i think the area around the cheeks on your figures gets flattened out a lot. cool inked stuff though...try opening your sketchbook out and gessoing a page, blowdrying it, gessoing the other side, and then after it's dried put a book on it & sand em. it doesn't really take that long to do maybe 10 pages at a time, maybe half an hr, and then you can ink/paint on both sides of a page ^^

Jorge Gecov: Dude, I had totally forgotten that one... I'll finish it for sure! Glad you like the new stuff!
Sorknes: Yup! I'm in it ;) I started off on the wrong path... completely... but I'm un-derailed myself and I'll be there for the deadline! *Pulls out the Bruce Lee poses for intimidation*
Right... couple of pictures here... Like I said to Sorky, I went off on a totally wrong path on the Medusa-CHoW... I kinda had this idea of a futuristic hacker suspended in air and hooked up to a machine enabling her to connect directly to the web via a brain feed of something like that, so she could code/hack/whatever they do in the future at the speed of thought..hehe... The machine she's hooked up to is called the medusa-device seeing as how there are a lot of cables connected to her head. Evocative of snakes....blablabla :P
Then, of course I realized she was supposed to look like a queen... and I'll post the NEW one in the Final Burning thread somewhere around the deadline (Jan 06)
Did a couple of enviros as well... Enviros are very much outside my comfort zone, so I decided I'd give it a whirl... I've tried to keep 'em loose and speedpainty... so they're in between one and two hours both of 'em... It wasn't intentional, but I ended up doing the floaty mountain thing... guess everyone bumps into those at some point :P
Okeedokee... that was a lotta text... missed hangin' on CA I guess! Hope everyone had a nice christmas! If I don't swing by before new years, I hope you guys have a Creative New Year!!

Hey mate. Cool stuff. Like the medusa. The hands and the face works very well. Though I think there is something with the distans between the ribcage and the pelvis. To short. Or maybe not, maybe it's just that the ribcage is to long.
The environments lokk very nice, like the ice castle. I think you could have made it pop a little bit more though. The brush strokes look to much alike the background giving the castle and island to little focus. Maybe taking down the contrast around the castle and background a little.
The last one I think works very well. The simplifying of the foreground is very good, maybe you could give the trees the same threatment.
Take care my friend and kick ass.

great paintings as always!
the ice painting looks great, som more values and smaller brush work would give it that extra boost it deserves!
same as the forest one... you kinda stop half way through when it comes to the value range... if you'd add a little bit of highlights here and there where it is needed to add focus to texture and focus, it'll do the trick.

DCept! Cool to see your progress man, its always good to see stuff in chronological order so you can see the development - and working with oil what! I've no idea how to approach oils, and your pieces have turned out really well - do you know of a good resource for how to approach oil painting, or someone on CA who would be good for me to talk to? Alternatively I could put my ass into gear and check out the tutes.... Your characters/sketches have a real mood to them now, as does the digital work you're producing - keep it up man:)

Medusa hacker's a nice job. That pose is harder to draw than it it looks. The background's kinda flat though if it's a finished piece.
Ice castle is very atmospheric and evocative, but on close inspection is a little weird. The big mass on the left appears to be floating in mid-air--not an impossibility in fantasy illustration of course but I just wonder why it's like that. The tallest, distant masses, on the other hand, really give a sense of colossal scale--well done.
The girl with the bleeding eye sockets is both creepy and beautiful. I feel so bad for her!

Medusa hacker = nicey nice.
The last environment there looks good as well, you're definitly approaching something there, and getting better. :) It still kinda ... gonna do this in norwegian... "ligger litt sånn i bakgrunnen, ingenting springer egentlig frem i øynene..:".... Though. Haha, you're making me feel like a slacker! I love those environments you posted up there, but i'm gonna have to echo björn and luis' request for some highlights! :) I also think that you could improve the composition of the ice castle by trimming off some of the right side.
The medusa idea is cool, but you're right, you're sort of missing the "queen" aspect. I saw your new final in the final burning thread, i like it! That hacker medusa image could also have a little better composition, right now it feels like there's a lot of empty space in the bottom and left part of the image.
Actually.. now that i look at it, i really think that ice castle one has potential! Good work! I'd recommend bumping up the value of the ground where the people are standing, to pop them out more. I would also like to see some light bounce back off off the ground and illuminate the underside of the floating rock, right now the blackness flattens it a bit. Give it some reflected light to pop the form. And crop it.. oh nvm i already mentioned that ;)
hmmm.. anything else? Nope, just an asspat for good work!

Hi dCepT
Since I made it my thing to remark on little things that nobody cares about anyway just for fun I'll continue in that tradition :P
In the green environment the "template"-painting some of the them are pointing down (in the left) which makes it look more like a pile of "leafs" rather than growing plants since the direction of the "root" becomes wrong. The "line" of "leafs" you do on the right I think is good for the composition and depth of the painting but works negative for the realism (even though you have a stylized approach) all in all the leaf-template stuff looks good. Leaving just a tiny bit if the painting on the left subpar to the rest of the painting is just :nohope: ...:P
I really like the ice environment. You got a nice feeling to it.
In the last speed painting the nose seems to short.
anyway I just started with acrylics so please visit my sketchbook in a couple of weeks,( when I hopefully got enough up there for people to be able to give advices) and give some advice. Pretty please.

Hey man ,thanks for posting in my SB :D Its been a while since I saw your sketchbook and you made awesome progress, keep it up :D
For crits, in your last speedpainting I think that the nose might just be a bit to small. But it can work as character maybe. Second crit is that the green you used for the dark values might be a bit to saturated, but not to sure about that :D
I hope to see some new updates soon!

Mindflaw: Hey man! Always appreciate your thoughts! I used a custom brush and set the direction to pen tilt, so I guess it came out kinda random... hehe... Guess I coulda refined some of 'em to make the illusion stronger... Totally right about the nose :P Bit too short that one... wanted to exaggerate the mouth a bit, but I guess it didn't turn out too good... oh well... next time... :)
Duq: Yup... that nose :P hehe... thanks for your thoughts on the green... Think you're right! I'll definately keep that in mind! Think I hae a tendency to go a bit saturated in my shadow areas...
Nadiamoon: Thanks! Glad you like! You had some nice stuff in your SB as well! Traditional stuff in particular!
Sorknes: Yuh... more enviros coming up soon! I got me the Whit Brachna instructional.. got a few new tricks outta that I want to try out.. hehe.. None in this update though :P I've got 'em on my laptop... been chillin' out at home doing enviro practice.. hehe..

Great to see you finished the Shaman too, i like this character :P
Just a small crit, in the Cernunnos image i think you could put some darker values in the foliage in the foreground, maybe this piece will be more stronger.

Neeeat digitals. Sweet light in them. But you have to try and put some colder colours in them, if you get some colder tones in there you'll your warm colours to pop out even further. Right now they're abit monochrome with only red-yellowish tones.

Wow, big update. :)
I dig the samurai that was the first one, the alien sumo wrestler and the digi tree guy (the creature concept) :)
Nice to see you being so productive, seems I really have to get up the tempo myself, hehe.
I have to say that colourwise you seem to struggle with some of the same that I have. It might be intentional, but some of your latest looks a bit muddy to me compared to some of your earlier stuff. Push those colours! :)

Right... thought I'd try to revive my SB :P Hehe... sorry it's been so long!
I did this gun sheet.. wanted to try out some new shit (thank you Coro! :D)... more segmented way of working, I guess, but it works well for this kinda designs... picked up the pipeline from Coro, like you might have guessed.. I tried not to get into his design sensibilities, though, and make this thing my own... hehe... so... this was the result... I'm posting thumbs, colorpass, workup and the final sheet.. The feel of the gun turned out mad different from the refinement pass, but I think it was to the better... I felt I got a better sense of the decisions I make by chopping the method into these very marked steps!
Hurricane: If you see this, bro; Thanks for the crits on the thumbs and the "art direction"! :D Definately made this thing turn out for the better!!

great stuff man!!
a lot of strong designs and characters.
the two biggest flaws i see is that all of your characters are leaning too much. Off-centre if you may.
..and that you need to work on your anatomy even more. There is something awkward about your bodies, i can't really put my finger on it. I think you don't draw the rythm of the contours properly. Almost like you're replacing the actual contour with something made up and it ends up looking odd.
other than that, man you're taking major strides. A lot more tidy and better values.
cheers and keep on rocking bro!

D-Man. It's been quite a while since I stopped by your book, and I have to say your stuff is looking amazing; so much better than anything I'd seen you do.
The gun sheets are really strong, though the handle on the 3/4 view is out of perspective with the rest of it.
The anatomy studies look unfinished - I know you can copy the rendering better than that... concentrate on creating smooth transitions from light to shadow.
Rev. Pestilence and your medusa are AWESOME but in the other digitals I'm seeing a little bit of a relapse into SOFT painting. don't forget to make a couple edges REALLY sharp to differentiate the subjects.
peace, dude.

hey man getting better and better :) like the gun design. Don't think there's that much difference from refinement to finished more like the refinement was how the gun looked when it was new and the final when it been used for a long time.
I think you choose the right thumb to continue my favourite anyway my second fav. was the last gun, but it was to plain to be fun so to speak. I liked those the most cause they seemed to be the ones who would work the best when used... ergonomically and such. Liked the change you did from muffler (or whatever it's named) to silencer.

great gun designs! there is a slight perspective issue with the last gun orthos. with the one that is 3/4 view, the diagonal part that dips down above the front handhold/clip area (i have no clue how guns work =P) with the three grooves on it - i think you need to push the three grooves forward .

I got a minute :)
Gun design and overall designs look interesting and fun to
me, the thing I think you could focus is dynamics and foreshortening
I would suggest drawing form the comics that you might have laying
around and try to pick apart why the author places the hand on this
or that way, or why the legs look this or that way,
and just keep doing the studies, but NEVER stop doing the imagination
stuff, I think you have a good mind to design monsters and weapons,
keep developing your fantasy world, other wise drawing becomes a chore,
believe me I know :P

Thanks for the comments and suggestions man! I'm pretty new to digital stuff (and most stuff) so technical help definitely helps...I wish I could give you some constructive crits but you're much ahead of me that's its going to be hard....I have noticed (I also have this problem) that on some of the faces that you draw from imagination, the faces lack a littlebit of expression, or the expressions are a littlebit ambiguous...I think it can easily be fixed by studying expressions a bit more and figuring out face anatomy a little better but other than that, I haven't noticed anything that has really taken my attention negatively from your work.you seem to be on the right tracks and your work is awesome! also thanks for noticing the graffiti...its soemthing I also love doing and that probably got me into other forms of art, ie caricature, conceptuual, monsters, etc....

Cool thumbs! I'm not particularly fond of the backpack design you settled for, the silhouette gets a little anonymous. #3 or #4 sans the weaponry would have been a better choice for a more interesting silhouette. The render looks cool, no complaints there, although his left hand looks a little awkward, the extended middle finger in particular.
Watch those intervals, if you update too often you'll shame the name of Lok.Inc! :D

In the wip imho the weight seems a little to even on both leg might look better if you tilt the hip and put more weight on one leg I think that would make the "gesture" part a little bit stronger.

Very nice thumbs again. :) Also, good going on changing the silhouette with the backpack like Slash sais. :)
The enviro is sweet. I can't really tell all what's what with the lines in the first one, but it came out great. :) Only thing that is somewhat bothering me is the statue/tombstone in front, as it tilts a bit and follows some of the lines. My eyes can't decide if it's meant to be tilted, or if it's a kind of accident while doing the perspective. It does make the picture more interesting too though, you might want a better take on that from someone that actually knows what they're talking about :P
The last portrait thing you did is also rather good. For some reason I read the ear as being smashed into the skull though, as it has a kind of a "cave" in the skull. Might want to do something about the shadows there. ;)

Sorknes: Thanks! Very good point about the foremost pillar/tombstone-thingy! It's meant to be slanted, but it's way too close to the excisting perspective as it is. I'll definately go in and tilt it again :) Right about the ear as well.. was just a quicky+, but I'll see if I go in and fix it again... hehe..
Mindflaw: Thanks man! Glad you like! About the enviros... well... It was a very good experience doing the perspective lines, and I think it felt a bit more... hand made after... When I tried the 3d for block-in I kinda got caught up in doing everything close to the block-in, but then I guess with a little practice and discipline, you choose which parts to follow, and which parts to go off the base with.
Ok... this is an embarrasingly small update, but it's been way too long... I swear I'll get some papers scanned real soon! Sorry guys... heh...

i really like the head doodles for some reason. the different expressions are a good touch, maybe try to work them out aswell. on the finished piece, something seems akward with the back of the head,i think alittle bit is missing on top, making the whole thing alittle askew.
seems you're doing fine otherwise, although i think i see alot of chicken scratch lines on that ninja, and some other pictures. seems on many pieces you're just using the same hardness/softness of one brush all over the pic. try experimenting with that,e.g. using harder edges in the shadow side, and softer on the light etc. consider more where you want the viewer to focus.
my favourite so far is the character thumbnail sheet from april21st,there's alot of personality in there.

Or start posting as soon as I save shit... haha... I tried collecting stuff I haven't posted and I'm not entirely sure as to where it's all at...I'll make an effort to organize my HD's, though... I'll be back stronger next time... haha..
Yeah, the Coro instructional video is the most entertaining and enlightening one I've seen of the MB ones... definately worth the price :)
Aight... as you figured, my HD's are very chaotic at the moment, as well as me being a slacker.... Here's a WIP for what it's worth, though...

hey, thanks for stoppin by the ole book!
i think you could achieve alot more suspense in your digis if you used complementary colours for figures and backgrounds, and punched up the saturation of some elements. the last head is a good step in that direction, although there's a perfect example: if you used pale green on the background,it would create a much stronger image, along with either more texture or a more pinpointed lightsource (for that,i recommend danielC's work,he's good at creating drama with light).
the locomotive is nicely textured and concepted, but again,it could use more punch. best experiment with an overlay layer, throw in warm highlights, cool shades and the like. you're going pretty black and white with highlights and shadows, and by the look of it,it's because you're using a colour layer on such a picture, right? don't know how far you've experimented with painting directly in colour, but it might be worth a try now that you've gotten better at the basics.
cheers :)

whoa holy poop!
remember what i said about you slowing down? i take it right back :D
nice load indeed, the digital piecs have improved shitloads.Did you use a sketchup model or something as a base for the train?
really cool jumping monkeyman too.
btw about markers i only have one lil suggestion, try get some freeform designs with markers, starting really rought and quick and getting it really crowded.blobs and marker strokes can then build up a lot of lil design bits (happy accidents) that can then be cleared in the inking stage...and then off to another marker rendering stage.Just my two cents, worked well with me :D
keep 'em coming!

nice stuff fredrik! Looking very good! That monkey is tight man!! Great arms, a bit sloppy hands and other bits but very good non the less!
I think your biggest problem is your faces, as in planes...I'd scan a drawing of yours, print it out vaguely and then draw ontop of it, refferencing and correcting the planes... like lowpoly modelling almost. While doing that try to figure out which edges are heard and characteristic and which ones you can just leave in a suggestive state.
Keep on trucking, badboy

August 27th, 2008, 04:07 AM
woop,see that? instant-interesting. ;)
the train could be pushed even more in terms of saturation, make the green alittle more green, and the orange on the train really strong. (keep expermenting..)
(i hope i'm a good one,rather than bad ;) )
i'll leave the crits on the pencils to guys who know what they're talking about ;) (haven't used pencil in seems-like-forever),although i agree with hurri that your faces still need work.

Hey man. Don't have much in the way of crits for you today, because most of your stuff is looking damn good. So mostly just saying hi.
All right, my one critique (and I'm actually trying really hard to restart my critiquing neurons here) is proportions on faces, where your foreheads are frequently too short. Check that the eyes are halfway between the chin and the top of the head. It doesn't matter so much on the monsters but it'd make the babes look better :)
I'm loving the textures on the recent digital stuff.

459304
Tried thinking with a limited valuerange here... all done with an impractically big round hard brush, size to pressure.
Reffed pose and whatnot, and I added some details I thought would be cool.
459305
I've started a tentative sculpting thing with Slash as well... I'm doing a bust, and he went haywire and is going for a full figure thing.. crazy mo'fo'... expect updates with traditional modelling soon as well (just throwing it out there as a means to kick my own ass into pushing it to a finish... haha)

wow great sketchbook pages, man. seems like you're bursting with ideas.
I think the train turned out perfect. very nice texture and great sense of space.
the chimps are great as well. I prefer the first one though. the pose has a lot of energy. second looks too stiff for my taste which might be because the upper body and the face are completely sideview. also I'd say the rough rendering in the jumping one works better than the halftones in the new one, they they look like pasted lateron.
it's just a thought.

Hey Fredrik. Nice to see such a big workload from you. Damn. You've developed. Doing all kind of crazy things. And you really know how to do production work.
And as for the face problem, maybe I can add 2 cents. The biggest problem with the planes are often when you're doing 3/4 faces. Try to use the cheekbones as direction for perspective. Beacuse it looks like you end the furthest away part to soon, and sometimes take them to far. I recommend hurris suggestion with doing an overlay drawing.
So when do I get to see you again? Coming to Gothenburg soon?

Great update, really like the last one. One thing about the pencils, get some real good quality pencils and don't be afraid to go dark. In some of your sketches 50% grey is the darkest you get, that results in lack of depth. But you're improving:)

Right.. couple of work-related speedies today... Just for some in house stuff... The logo is in blues and a bit of purple, so my only direction was use those colors, and the width height ratio I've used. Might be decided to put something like these on the backs of our cards. I had fun with 'em! (Especially with the monster one, but hey... it's a monster, right? Also the first one acted as sort of a warmup, so I was a lot looser with the second one) The 3d logo there is the company logo.. I did a quick 3d model of the regular 2D one that we've been using for various purposes since.. and now, it's a floaty iconic thingamajig.

cool that you went through the planes of the face. Know what you should do, find a cast of a head or something similar. And do drawings all around, analyze how the planes and the form changes as you go around the sculpture/cast, and remember that the outline is planes turning away from you. That's why outline describe so much form.

Maybe if you make he`s eyes more open and have that killer "eyes" ( Im gonna !/&%# eat your brains out !%!%!! ) No that woud be brutal!

You look productive, love the panance redesign, made me laugh.
So how are things, progress, job going?
Quick crit, think you've heard it already, more structure, you need to describe the form and planes more clearly. One brushstroke, one plane. Contrast between atmosphere and solid mass. It'll add more variation into the paintings aswell. Beacuse right now you're letting most of the textures do the variation job.

Got awesome art gifts from Saira and we've had an awesome time with lotsa friends, too much to eat, movies, DS, Wii and PS3 :D Thanks for the boob-crit! I'm trying to not only say "I'll keep it in mind" when I get crits and "apply it to the next piece", but go back and fix shit, so I'll have a second look at that one!
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!! I hope you all get a productive and inspired 2009!
Starting out the new year with some pencils and a few thumbnails done for the CGsociety-challenge. Some of these are moleskine (the small one) and some on A4 even though they're scaled roughly the same here :P
I've posted a thought on a door opening mechanism for the same thing.. hope that thing gives off a believability as to function :)

that's some nice costume concepts, some of them even have a little "knights of the old republic" feel to them :) the "vibration creature" is quite a scary bugger too.

the more i see of the Atlantis project, the more I WANT to see!!
Happy New Year Fred, I was looking over your whole sb thread and you've come a long way (while juggling a full time job, eh? damn.) :D keep going man! I'm gonna try to catch up ;)
A little steampunk train of thought for the Atlantis project... Steampunk involves steam powered machines, like those massive old trains, right? how would steam disperse under water? ;) how would it affect the environment? the clothing? A female leader I suppose has to showcase the strengh of her people, but that did not come through in your current suggestions... their mastery of the power of steam powered engines should show clearly in her costume methinks...
anyways just some things to maul over, I might be completely off the mark mind you... o.o
Have a good 09! :D

yes!happy new year. i like your new sketches. watch out on this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=542171&d=1229445537 i think you used to strong color for the wagon. with that much green around it should have a less saturated color reflection (i think so, even if it has a bit comical style)
keep it up and thanks for dropping by. when will we see you sketching on sundays?

Happy New Year! :)
The three faces together, and the guy standing with the back to us is really great. :)
Could push some more values though. ;)
The challenge stuff looks like it's coming along, can't wait to see the rest. :) The costume concepts looks good.

Hi man!
I think there is something courious in propositions 4 and 6 in the "Atlantis Reborn" female leader costume concept.
You should push a bit further those two. Of course I don't say that this spheary helmet is a really 100% good idea but maybe something simmilar to this or a half of this shape... ;)

Hey man, nice updates. Looking at your work, I think you should add more value relationships, there isn't enough range in your work it seems.
Those last digital paint - character designs are nice. Nicer then the sketches of them.

Carni: Thanks man! Cool to hear the KOTOR-comparison... hehe... didn't see it until you mentioned it :P Didn't spot the revue thread, could you PM me the link, and I'll drop by for sure!
petite: Thanks for the thoughts, Dina! I'll run it by the guys and du some more costumes... These are for the leader who don't do manual labour... but I could try to bring in some more steampunky elements as like.. decoration on their clothes or whatnot.. heh... We'll be sharing as we go along on it.. hehe... And I guess you'll see stuff through Andreas too :D
eparts: Yah... you're right about the saturation for sure! They're printed already though, but I could go back and fix just to have it done :) I've been busy during weekends lately, but I'll try to drop in and sketch with ya'll sometime for sure!
Sorknes: Thank you Sorky :) Cool to hear you like! I'm doing pencil studies regularily now, and I'll push values more! Getting back into using several pencils of varying hardness, so I'm hoping to show a bigger valuerange soon!
mariusz: Yeah.. guess a couple of 'em went by a bit fast... they're painted on top of a rough 3d basemesh though, so the length relationships should be right.. That being said, it could be that I've done something weird to make 'em seem that way :P I'll get it correct when I do the full concept though.. hehe... Thanks!
bharat: Thanks for dropping by dood! Glad you like!
JustinBeckett: I like the digitals better too.. heh... Got a couple more sketches to scan since last with more costumes though... I'll post when I get my ass to scanning! Glad to see ya in here!

i you've been up to some cool thing man
i'd try and keep in mind some more "ordinate" composition in stuff like that last one, perhaps even messing about with the golden ratio to make it work better (maybe cropping it a bit)
I think you could have put more importance on the character and maybe chosen a lower horizon, but seems to be a bit too late for that.I'd personally make those columns simples.Vegetation, graffiti, more damage and maybe a broken car could do it some good.If the scene was not so much in daylight a fireplace or something like that could have served as a neat secondary light source
just expressing random thoughts here, great start for 2009, keep 'em coming!

watch the persp on the bottom right. the cracks look great but the ground looks like it's curving up instead of just going into the bg. reminds me of i am legend with the deer.
i think some graffiti and wear/tear would benefit the foreground, but of course it's a wip :D

hp: Yup... I really need to get something done about the perspective issue on the right hand side there... I'll correct it for the next update! Thanks! Glad you dig.. hehe.. The scene is inspired by the place near where I live, and there are deer in the forests here... But reminding you of I am Legend ain't bad in my book.. hehe... I enjoyed that movie!

i think the black thing on the right hand side is a bit distracting for now. maybe flesh it out a little more.

I wanna see WAY more clutter! MORE MESS! And for the love of all that's unholy will you throw in a pair of boobs? :P It's headed in the right direction tho, just keep churning away at it!
Oh, and since you've been riding me about perspective, i'll throw some right back at you. ;) It seems as the surface the character is standing on is twisted, cuz you see it more from above towards the left side, but then it twists and almost aligns with the camera towards the right. There might be a fancy smanchy booklernin' perspective explaination to this, but it seems a little off to me.

While you're adding all the clutter and boobs you need to add to that WIP, be careful not to lose the sense of scale you're getting from the perspective, which is very well done.

Love the monkey, hehe.
On your piece that you're working on, I agree with Slash, more clutter. :P It comes off as a little too clean right now. Some textures and stuff will prolly help out on that too, it's a bit too slick. But don't lose the sense of the character nor it sitting alone in a wide landscape like that. :)

when i get back home were gonna go on a feet drawing rampage! And we're not gonna stop until we can both draw a pair of convincing feet actually being GROUNDED on a ground plane, in any perspective. This has been bugging me in my own work, and its bugging me in your work as well. This is where most of your latest pieces fall through, the foot areas are generally unelegant. I don't know exactly what youre doing wrong, probably cuz i make the same mistakes myself, and if i knew i wouldn't be doing them.. :P So yeah, boot camp when i get back, PUN INTENDED! I also notice that in some of your faces the features don't fit the shape of the face, or vice versa. I did a quick paintover to illustrate my point, although i might have taken the lipo too far.. :P
613383
I dont know exactly how you do it, but i find it helpful to go through a mental checklist of things to look out for, first the big shapes of the head and how they relate, and then the more superficial features following these.
Other than that, cool stuff bro! I especially like what you have going on with the voodoo priest and the other feathered shaman dude. Artrage looks like a blast, and im guessing it fits your traditional background perfectly. Get well soon, and don't forget to send me the stuff! NUDGE NUDGE! :P

Sweet lawd! This last one is awesome! Those brushstrokes are totally sex, i want artrage too now!! I mean, i was tempted before, but that latest one really has something going on! A crit to be polite is in order i think.. Some tree studies would do you good i think. They look a little weird, especially where the trunk goes thin, then thicker above the thin parts, which makes the tree look less elegant. I dig the execution of the trees, my only beef is the shape.

The idea in this one is pretty cool, but I think the artrage brushstrokes are drawing too much attention to themselves this time. Also the rock formations, especially on the left, look too big--like if I was standing next to them, I'd be taller than the bridge. That's a little tricky because it's certainly conceivable they could be that big, but to my eye it's throwing off the scale. I'd try dividing those up into smaller forms.

damn i love that thing, you're a great painter but that one in particular you take it even further cause its really lovable. something about the colors. alright on second look the colors are fleshy and sexual and maybe... i need to get a grip on my mind lol

Bad Muthafucka! lol. Nice updates. I like the humor in your sketches like the banana and this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=641939&d=1239296469).
I don't understand what's happening with the hand (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=641955&d=1239298040) on the left side. Did you forget to paint it while rushing or am I totally missing it?

like it :) green colour scheme (heh) is more coherent and makes more sense for underwater scenery. perhaps use white stripes on the red for more agressive state? e.g. (http://www.fatturtletravel.com/images/ElGouna271205b008.jpg) since you can't see red itself that well under water. (change to orange?)

last concept is really neat. your concepts are getting a lot better.
for some of the sketches of the lamppost and stuff a while back, i would watch the middle parts of your sketches. for instance the outline of the lamppost looks good but the middle is kind of confusing.

Ilustration and speedpainting enviroment shows clear improvement, more 3 dimensional aspect in form i think would make them more better (in perspective)

grenapples: Hahaha.. Awesome! Cool to see it resonated that much with ya! Sexual or not :D Thanks!
Eon: Yeah, it's a blooper.. hehe.. Glad you like the sketches!
Carnifex: Thanks for the input, and the image! Makes a lot of sense! I'll try an orange and white thing on it for sure.
hp: Thanks! Good crit! Think it might be my tendency to jump straight into rendering that's the culprit for the centre areas getting a bit.. unreadable.. I'll keep it mind!
Nettle Mountain: Thanks! I'll try to get more stuff in there that describes the perspective better.
Warmup with ArtRage :) It's just a turtle.. from reference.. I'm trying to get a bigger mental library of creatures, so a study seemed appropriate.. hehe..

I like that vivid palette in that last piece and how you often maintain that painterly look in your digital work. Wicked idea with the war octopus!

Busy man! Hehe. I totally love that sea turtle.
Keep a lil eye on your peopleses though. suddenly you have a little of that stiff pose thing on in several of your sketches there.... Keep it loose and build on it! :)

I really like your work but whenever I'm looking through your sketchbook I have the feeling you should put some more time on each piece. Maybe you are concentrating to much on quantity instead quality. I think some extra time (or slower creation of each piece) could bring your art to a totally new level.
Best,
Chris

Eon: Thanks man! The painterly thing is fairly recent though.. haha.. only got that in there after discovering ArtRage :)
Sorknes: Thank you! Appreciate the crit! I need to get into more studies.
Chris Noeth: Yep! You're absolutely right! I'll try to think quality instead of quantity.. I need to make a jump up with my work. Thanks for the kick!
Josef K: Thanks dude! Where have you gone on twitter though? I haven't seen an "Artist inspiration" link in ages :D
maxetormer: Glad you like, hermano! Hope you're settling in nicely up in Canada! I really need to get on MSN and harrass you.. haven't talked to you in ages.. haven't talked to any CA'ers lately.. I suck.. being busy is not a valid excuse.. hah..
Augmenton: Thank you!
Spect: yooooo! Sorry for being away for so long! Been painting :) Can't show a lot of it, but I've got an image dump fo' yo' ass right here!
Mischeviouslittleelf: Thanks for the asskickin'! I'm well aware.. heh.. studies comin' up!
hp: Yeah.. updates have been.. neglected for a while.. :P Been busy (lame excuse)..here's an update to make up for it!
Ok, ya'll.. I'm really sorry for being so negligent of my SB, and CA in general.. I'm gonna make my rounds to all of you as soon as I've posted some pictures! Keep kickin' my ass about updating though! ;)
Right.. this is a mix of a couple of pieces that'll be used (the profiles with the feathers and such, and the red dressed chick), sketches made for my own or for projects and for studies :) Some I'm happy with, some are crap, but I'll just post a bunch for you guys.. heh.. Hope there's something worth looking at! Appreciate any and all crits and comments!
