Drawing/painting inspires me much more at the moment...
This is going to be for drawing painting...so I won't fill it with stencils, 3d etc.

and a painting per day, but hopefully i'll get
into it soon.
Thanks for the comments steak and maxetomer.

I got inspired by Lungbug, so i'm going to keep attempting tone drawings until
I have something good. Maybe it will take 100 drawings like this, but I will persevere
and hopefully learn from each one
This one is the start of the journey...its crap, and sorry its so messy... (half ref, half from memory)
Any advice would be helpful.

Man, I hate to get on board with the rest of these guys, but you need to finish a paint. Maybe not 100%, but work it a little more to say...75%?
Im loving your stuff. :) Keep going!

ok, thanks Van and Yina, I might not finish those ones, but i'll try to in future.
Anyway, I must draw.

I couldn't sleep last night because of the heat, so so I drew my hand. It may not look very special, but I felt like I was 'feeling' the form more, by leaving the lines I put down and flowing. I think metalwinds said something about this, it's how I often draw but I feel like if I push it further I will improve. - I just need to learn to make the initial lines lighter.
-Van, thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

It does look good. The hand has great form. As far as learning to lighten the first lines here is what I did. Maybe it will help! I forced myself to use a 2H lead and when I pressed too hard it would make indentions or tear up the paper. :) After a while I started holding it lighter and lighter until finally I dont have to switch pencils anymore. :) I use a mech pencil. .5mm 3B for everything.

Thanks, i'll try that, I use 0.5 HB mechanical leads for eveything usually. I find that when I concentrate on drawing this way and looking away from the page to get a better grasp of the form, my pencil strokes are harder and this is something I need to practice as it usually results in messy sketches like these.
Jsweet and Metalwinds seem to have got this technique/style dialled...

Yah, you got that right. I have been studying metalwinds stuff and the line weight seems to be carefully done. Of course, another guy to take a peek at is Dan Milligan. His style is right up my alley and I have to admit I have stared at his shit for hours trying to dissect it in my mind.
Make no mistake, I am not trying to grab their style, just trying to grab whats going on in their head when they do it. :)

I need to study and dissect those style too, just to try something new and learn from them. Marko D's is another style I find amazing, and one which I need to look into and absorb.
As soon as i have exams out of the way I'll be able to draw alot more, all day perhaps.
I'm feeling more passionate about drawing than anything at the moment, who knows, perhaps it will push 3d aside and take me somewhere else if I keep at it with real ultimate power.
Sorry for boring post without content.

Bah! Its your thread. You can post what you want...after all, we are talking about studies. :)
I had almost forgotten about Mark, and of course, Lung Bug is another great one to dissect.
As for 3d being pushed aside. *shrugs* I dont like 3d so, I would say go for it, but really it just depends on where your passion is. :)

great studies! look at it this way, by working on your 2d and improving upon it your 3d won't suffer.. in fact it'll help you to understand the 3d form better and probably will help your 3d too!

Some of your anatomy sketches are really nice. Whatever you do, don't let the painting get in the way of your pencil work. Experience has shown me, that if you neglect your drawing, even for a few brief weeks, it's hell getting your groove back.

Thanks Summer P, I'm drawing alot more than painting at the moment so no worries about that being a problem.
Here are some torso studies, please excuse the messiness.
They're just crude sketches...

This is mostly non-ref in an attempt to draw from memory, (Loomis), so there are probably some mistakes.
I'm not going to post much more for a while, instead i'm going to try and start drawing 12 hours a day or so
after my exams, and hopefully I can balance this with a job if I find one...

Sweet studies. I am doing loomis right now myself. It is great reference, especially to learn the muscles. I can see you are doing well!!! I really like the studies. I can tell you are left handed from them ;)
troymcoy
June 20th, 2004, 07:14 PM
Thanks endregan, but how did you decide I was left handed?
I'm right..
I think I must be improving, because all this stuff looks bad now.

June 20th, 2004, 07:39 PM
oh I dont know I thought you did some studies from life of yourself and it looked like you used your left.
Yeah I know what you mean when you look at your older stuff and find all the faults. It is positive because you arent in a rut and moving on!
