I used to think the same thing... I think it's derived from some Hatiian voodoo culture, not sure. But I saw Quentin Tarantino on some show and he was asked about this. He says he's heard every theory out there, and the answer is that there is no answer. He did this on purpose so that people would make there own determinations. I'd go with the soul thing, though :mrt:
