When I saw the second guy, I immediately thought "Shredder" from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

*gasp*....your poses are very poor...i mean i don't see any body who stands around like a puppet on strings..try making better poses...and go easy on the drawings, looks lik you press real hard on the paper with your pencil...which is bad and makes things hard to erase. still proportion is good...try studying anotomy some more and put some action poses into your drawings...that will make them look cooler and more fun to look at and the concept is alright.

Why is everyone holding their swords sideways?

The second two are really symmetrical. It kind of works for the second guy, but with the last picture, her legs are perfectly symmetrical yet her feet are in different positions. Another problem area on her is her right arm. At first I thought she was holding it behind her back, then I realised you could see the arm and that made it look like she had a transparent midsection. I think it's mostly because she has lines on her arm that continue the outline of her body, and it confuses the eye.

So in conclusion:

Good - I like the elaborate costumes and character design

Bad - Awkward unnatural poses, flat drawings, the style of the bodies don't match the style of the faces

Basically, just keep on drawing (plus the whole anatomy spiel). You're definitely getting there.

Come on, don't tell me you don't know? When you create a character, you have to show as much as possible! Front and back. Sure, I could change their pose like Anabel swinging her sword toward the camera, but... doing so, I would also hide all the details of her armor and all. But now that I creatd her, I can easily draw her in any possible position.

the style of the bodies don't match the style of the faces
That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. You're saying it like it was a rule. I draw the way I wanna draw. If you don't like it, kiss my @$$ and shut up.

Dude, if you post your work, then you are gonna get C & C, like it or not. If you don't like it then leave.

This Pesmerga guy is hillarious. I've never seen someone take comments and critz so badly.

The two girls look like they wouldn't be able to bend their knees.
The first girl's knee looks like it has been twisted the other way, not in the same direction that her whole leg is facing.

I like the design, but all the detail really takes away from the character.

So what is the purpose of these drawings ? Character design ? Detail shots ?
A turn-around sheet is there to show all the details of the character. But if you want to showcase your character, a pose/action that depicts your it's personae is the best. You can show everyone not only how they look, but also what kind of person they are, and to a point how they move too. Detail is gravy!

what's wrong with Naami's hand, it looks broken. and why is Anabel standing like that, she looks like she's about to fall over... muffin man's right, your drawings look like you've been pressing that pencil on the paper a lot. if you want your characters to stand out more, ink them, or something...

It only LOOKS dark. That's cuz of the scanner! It came out much darker than it really is

Naami's hand > You're right. I totally missed.

Anabelle's posture > I know... I don't like her pose too. I'm working on a couple of action scenes with these characters. They're not quite finished yet.

take some figure drawing classes, read some anatomy books you seem to have alot of patiance for detail, so focus that time and energy on learning the teqniques and basics, IMPORTANT!!

Maybe I should. Everyone's telling me that. I think it is time for Pesmerga to work on his weaknesses. From now on, He shall study anatomy, figure and colors until he prevails and only seeks awesomeness :)

ahhhhhhhhhh... much better... but zirkov's hand is still a bit in a wierd position...or maybe that's cuz i'm tired...anyway, the faces could do with a bit more detail (oh, wait...this is a different style than what i' working on...sorry...)

The "Kim" piece is much better. by far the best piece. if i may though. i think you should try verithin pencils, they keep the drawing from smudging, so you won't have to go through and clean it up in your computer so much. All in all a vast improvement! good job.

From the calibur of what I see here I'm guessing your still realtively young and inexperienced. If thats the case, well dude you've got some balls to post among some of these guys and good on you for trying, but you've a long way to go.

If you're post high school looking to go to an art school for a career... you're a long way from acceptance, and maybe want to consider some private classes and workshops.

Start with the basics. Learn how to draw a human body first. Then dress it up and tweak it. Until you have the human figure down, which is the essential foundation, anything else you do is going to look like crap no matter how well done it may or may not be.

The poses are getting better. I like the whole anime/cutesy style of yours. Looks like the .Hack cartoons. Keep practicing fast sketching techniques so you can loosen up your style.:D

i think the best thing for you would to lose the anime style (for now) and learn ananomy and how to render out the human figure in a way that it believable. im not dissing your stlye its just that a lot of beginners tend to jump into one particular style have a hard time getting out of it. there was a couple of people in my life drawing class who couldn't do faces right because the always gave the face anime styled eyes. once you learn you ananomy then you can work on your style because you would know all your basics

They aren't too bad. It looks like you took your time in detailing. But I recommend that you work on the structure and flow of your characters. Don't even think about the rendering until the basic structure of the character looks right. =] But hey don't give up and keep going! gl

Thanks everyone :)

I haven't studied art or the "basics", everything I learned, I learned by myself. Here's the thing, I'm 20 years old guy but with a 16 years old talent :( I don't know much about anatomy and all that stuff. I was hoping to learn it at school but I guess I'm on my own now. I'll check the questions, tips & tricks section of the forum. Is there any site you guys would suggest me?

yeah, www_draw_what_you_see,_draw_all_the_time,_and_dont _let_people_get_you_down.com
i find life to be the best reference, also grab an anatomy book and study it. if you really want to draw well, then you'll really want to sacrifice some dough for some books.
i dont know much about the internet, but this site is one of the best for learning how to draw better, but i could be wrong.

your stuff isn't bad...but its not that good
with some practice you could be good
one of my roommates is a little older than you
and draws exactly the same... i think you two
share the same problem of trying to draw
a finished product the first time around.
Try sketching your characters and be loose with
the strokes...who cares if you mess up as long
as you get closer to being better.
Rock on!

There are some very good books out there by some truly brilliant people regarding anatomy and how to draw. Buy them.

Dynamic Anatomy by Brune Hograth
The figure drawing book by Georeg Bridgeman. Not sure of the exact title of this one, but get the whole big volume not the little segments.

Anatomy for the Artist.

Look at some of the old masters. Rubens, Da Vinci, Daumier, Dore. These guys rock. And for the moment pay more attention to their drawings rather than their paintings. You can learn more about the technique of draughting from their sketches than their paintings.

Their is a series of large format folios called the master draftsman. Those are excellent.

Start there. And then look into community colleges, those aren't too expensive have day and night classes and usually have an few figure drawing classes. Those classes usually aren't the best relying on long boring poses, but its a start.

I didn't really appreciate the way people were attacking you at first, but I'm glad to see that everyone's settled down and started providing constructive criticism. If you want to draw for fun and personal enjoyment, you can draw whatever you want to. If you want to improve (like you said) then there's a lot to learn from drawing from life/reference (like others said). KChen has some great stuff on figure drawing in the tutorials section of this site.
I like to draw because it's fun. Of course artists want to improve, but if it ever ceased being fun, I don't know why I'd continue to draw. I dunno how much sense I made in this reply, but best wishes.
oh yea, sometimes I'll draw a picture I don't like and say to myself "it looks like a crappy high school drawing" (kind of like you mentioned the skill of a 16 year old). but there's some high schoolers on this website who kick serious ass at drawing.
Okay, I'm really done now.

I honestly like the effort you put into your sketches, especially with the costume details and accessories. The chain mail texture, the designs in the armor pieces, some indication of a background. Lots of work and imagination here.

I encourage you to keep on drawing what interests you. And be willing to receive crits, to give you an honest feedback of how your sketches are perceived by others. It's your choice where you want to go with your talent.

You can take classes, and you can learn simply by doing.

Good luck :afro1:

Heh, I can get the proportions all right, and poses right, but can't seem to finish my characters off with detailed costumes. Seems we have the opposite problem.
