Hey.
I drew these a few days ago.
I was thinking about the new Lotr movie comming out and these popped into my head.:) I did a quick marker job on them to "finish" them off. Hope you like them! Crits are welcome...

Looks like a good start! But with some specular highlights on that sword it would look a whole lot meaner... go for it dude!

not bad for a start...

i second the issue with highlights. polished steel is shiny as hell, that means it has very dark darks and very bright lights. also, you can strengthen the effect by placing them close to each other, i.e. making the "tolerance angle" the single faces point towards quite small, so that you end up with just a few "inbetween-colored" faces and lots of either dark or light planes.
contrast is the key!

also, for some cool magical weaponry, you could start going nuts with shapes... make some sqwords that will make every enemy freeze in fear when just seeing it!
hammer magic words in the blades, give it ornaments, flow, elegance, force, character...

But as for highlights i have no idea where to start...:(
