I found some interesting javascript code that disables the right-click option on whatever page you put it in (no right-click = no "save as..."). Anyway, I thought it would be helpful for all of the online-artists who hate when people meander into their sites and start stealing their pics. Here's the website -- scroll down until you find the right one:

They say the thing isn't 100%, though

You can still take a screen capture, so there isn't much point in that.

i don't recommend things like that.

a) it's javascript.
for security reasons, i have javascript switched off and just activate it when i know about the site owner's intent. (same with popups - until i see i'll need them to watch a gallery or sth like that, no popups on this machine)
this is the most simple way of going round that stuff.

b) most likely, it's one of those codes that prompt some messagebox when clicking right so you have to hit OK to make the box disappear and making your right click obsolete.
well... try holding right mouse button and hit space to hit the OK button. then release right mouse button and bam, there you have done a right click...
(i found only one javascript rightclick protection that couldn't be worked aeround like that: after one tiome working around, it showed me a box saying "you will regret doing that again". the second time, it said "you will really regret doing this again". when i hit right mouse button for the third time, it spammed me with messageboxes "didn't i tell you to stop that?" so that i had to shut down ie with ctrl-alt-del)

still, most of those "protections" don't work at all in opera. i never had any problems with these things.

at all... with the moment you start protecting your files like that, you start making people hot on working around it.
saving them on disk for private reference isn't stealing, too. stealing is claiming it being yours while it was done by someone else.
saving it for private inspiration, reference etc... is more like getting a reproduction of a painting or taking a photo of it.

I think the best way to discourage web theft is to post on forums and sights often if people are familiar with your work they will let you know when someone has stolen your stuff to me thats the best method

wow, gekitsu i didnt know that. very interesting.

@ cerreto: even if the javascript works, you can easily extract (the location of) the pic from the html-source. whatever your browser is capable of showing you can also save to disk

just fyi:

i visited the site with opera and tried right clicking on both link and image that were there to test. no problems, just an everyday right-click-menu...

GO DOWNLOAD OPERA! IT OWNZ! :)

I dl'd Opera a couple of months back on a whim and never looked back.

Whenever I'm using ie on another computer I keep trying the mouse gestures to flip back and forward only to be reminded again why.
