Well, it may be that the people who viewed the question don't have the answer, or don't have the time to give an in depth answer if the question is fairly involved.

Alot of the time I see posts with questions like: "How do I become a concept designer?" or "What are all the best schools in the nation for concept design?" which are so general an answer could be pages long. Also, the answers to many questions people post could be found by just reading through the forums and maybe doing some searches. This whole forum is about how to be a concept designer, where to go to school, how to find work, how good you have to be, ect - if people just browsed around they could answer alot of questions for themselves, or at least get a good general idea so that they could ask more specific questions which are easier to answer.

most times when i view a post, i have an opinion one way or another, or some hillariously clever joke. I figure I'm adding to the community if I take the 10-30 seconds to type it..thats what this is all about, people sharing thoughts, ideas, and art. I probably just come off as annoying, or a loser or something, but I can't control other peoples thoughts.
This community is only any good if people share.

40 people who viewed this post so far haven't responded...
apparently they don't have an answer to your question.

personally I'm new here (I haven't even uploaded an avatar yet and this is like my second post ever!) so I'm still gettin my feet wet. I dont think it should be taken personally though, from reading a lot of the posts I think this is a pretty friendly place.

alot of times people ask for thier art to be critiqued but they don't respond to the critque which kind of seems like you've waisted your time
or their art shows so many basic flaws that it seems like they threw something together that would take more time to critique than to create
or you are on a selfish art run for inspiration and you don't take the time to give the feedback your capable of
or the question doesn't directly concern you
or as someone else has said the question posed has been asked a million times before
yet other times i become lazy and do not want to read through paragraphs of text

I find what the good war said to be quite true and annoying. If you don't give US feedback on whether or not YOU like the help we've given there isn't much incentive to critique again is there? Sometimes works do have too much wrong with and the only critique would be "start again" harsh, yes.
For posts in this forum, I mean come on I don't attend any of these schools, out of the 10k people in this community how many have attended one of the schools listed here? How many of those 10k are active posters with enough time on their hands and just happen on the post? Don't be discouraged when people don't reply to your posts right away. Reply to other people's posts, critique them, help them with artistic problems and the same will be returned to you =D

Hey, just thought I'd drop 2 cents here.
Personally, I check out conceptart.org on a regular basis, but I very seldomly post anything. I dont even log on.
I dont post any artwork because I'm currently hosted at netfirms.com, and as I realized late, I cant post images from a netfirms site, only a link. So that kinda sucks.
I really like checking out the Its Finally Finished!! forum and the DSG, there is so much talent here, it really motivates me to get my own stuff going. I love reading crits and coments, and learning stuff.
There are many people here that kick ass, like Blackarts, or Puddnhead, and so many others the list would be endless.
I'm pretty much of a passive user, because I like this site so much I dont wanna flood it with crap. Thats why even though I read messages, I dont feel like answering, because most of the time I dont know the answer to the question, or, as mentioned before, its so general it would spawn pages of commentary.
For questions like "how do I become a concept artist?" please check back on old topics. This question is so general and comon chances are its already been asked, discussed, and archived (and it has). Check out "the best of CA", they keep the best posts there. Usually general question-related topics like that are filed there, so that we dont have the same discussion every month (or week).
When you have a question and no one responded, take the time to browse the old forum discussions. Chances are your not the first or the only one to have asked. Cheers.

I personally don't post a comment in *anyone's* thread unless I have something to contribute. I shy away from the fanboy comments ("you're so good I could wet myself" type) because to me it's useless drivel, regardless of how pumped up the recipient's ego gets.
Threads that have questions that I can answer, and have time to answer, I repsond to where and when I can. Most times, though, I'm not interested, or the person has already recieved a response that adequetly answers their request/question/critique/what-have-you.
Personally, while getting responses is great, I don't feel entitled to them simply because I post a thread.
If you are not getting a response, try reconsidering what you are posting. Perhaps it was phrased obscurely or the subject matter wasn't interesting, or the problem may simply be self-evident.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
~Oreg.

Yeah, I pretty much shy way from responding to any given topic unless I have something to say. In a lot of the art threads, I don't post because the artist is better than me, and there is clearly nothing I could say that they don't already know. I also avoid the fanboyish "you're so awesome" "draw more stuff" and "How did you do that and omygod it's amazing I don't even know what a pencil is and yada yada." and As for the reason there is such a huge ratio of views to posts, I'll offer forth the following possibilities.
1) There are people who visit this forum, but never say anything, acting as sponges for information.
2) There are people who know when not to say something, but take the time to carefully read as many topics as is reasonable to determine whether or not they have something to contribute.
3) It counts every view, whether or not it's the same person over and over again. So that guy who keeps checking to see if anyone has posted is driving up the view number like a rocket.
4) There is a signifigant group of individuals who have access to a mouse, but not a keyboard.
5) There are mysterious viewmonkeys, who open every link they can find, then immediately close it without reading the contents.
6) Who cares?

......so your asking the people who don't post, to post why they don't post? Yeaaaah, I'm not sure if you're going to get a correct answer.
