any know about this place?

First off: Since there no "welcome" forum....What's up! I've been lurking around here for a day or two and this place looks great! A lot of people are so helpful and nurturing and it makes sharing work and ideas so much easier when the environment's like that! Hopefully I'll be a decent addition. :)
I'm just starting to take things more seriously with art and I, like everyone else, just wanna' get better!

Second: I'm gonna take some courses at the art students league in NYC this summer, actually I'm headed there today! I'm pretty Amped about it, but does has anyone been there before? Anything I should look out for? What are the instructors like? Anyone in particular I should look for?

the Art Students League? It's good stuff, from what I know.

It's not classes for college degrees; it's like just getting the studio classes ;) how nice!

There are some really good teachers there. Ted Seth Jacobs used to teach there.... Frank Mason taught there (I don't even know if he's still alive?!), Nelson Shanks teaches and/or taught there, Tony Ryder taught there, I believe................ find a good teacher and take classes with them! There's some talent there.



(btw, I don't know how much you know about fine artists. But Nelson Shanks is the highest paid portrait artist in the world, his work goes from 60k minimum up to 200k. Ted Seth Jacob's work goes for 50k on average. Tony Ryder is probably the most skilled artist out there, or at least one of the top. Frank Mason, from what I heard, really knew his stuff back in ze day. So when I said there's a lot of talent there, that's what I was talking about!)

Patton -- Thanks for the help man. I haven't really heard of the artists you have mentioned but I'll find out about them. And Yeah studio classes for the sake of studio classes sounds just what I've been lookin for! No pressure to pull in grades, varying skill levels, uh.....perfect!
I've also heard that Bridgeman taught there in the past, and that's a name that you can't help but hear...everywhere!
