Your best/favorite art supply store in NYC?

Hi all,

Got a business trip to NYC coming up, Monday the 24th I'll have a few hours to kill. I haven't lived in the city for a loooong time, so I was wondering if anyone here who lives in the city might recommend a good art supply store. I need to get a few things for the workshop in Austin. I remember there used to be a great place somewhere in Chinatown (actually it was just before you get into the heart of Chinatown. Was it Bleeker street?? Like I said it was a long time ago! Any suggestions, much appreciated!

the HUGE pearl paint store is in chinatown, its on CANAL st. i believe

some smaller stores --"NY central" on 3rd ave. and 10th st
and there are Utrechts stores around ( one is on 4th ave and 11th st)--just do a web search

i would recommend NY central for costs--some of the other stores have everything--but they charge everything in your bank account as a punishment for their selection

I like "The Art Store" just because they are the only ones that carry my favorite sketch-books, but I do all my other shoppin at the cool new art-supply store on North 8th in Williamsburg, bklyn.... I forget its name tho.

223 North 8th Street between Driggs and Roebling.

Its hard to see from the street as you are walking down 8th from Driggs because it is set back from the road, but once you get close to the corner of Roebling, you can't miss it.

Good place.... it has just about everything you would need! Far less stressful and tiring than Pearl..... those stairs could KILL someone! Hehe.

hehe, this is great info for me:) ill be staying round new york after austin. im gunna stock up like hell, theres so much stuff i cant get here.
