it was a post-apocalyptic western.

Very cool Lono. I like your shading, very crisp and clean. You have posted quite a bit of stuff here too, I am impressed. This game looked like it could have been interesting, pity it had to be canned.
Btw, could you tell me for a concept artist like yourself, how many drawings or sketches like these would you have to do in a day?

Batteram: thanks! well,, it really depends.. these particular characters were done in roughly a day each,,, or two depending on how long it took me to hammer down the final concept.
i work a bit slower than most i guess. my rendering method is time consuming. i could produce faster, but it just wouldnt look as good.
davi: thanks esse! tops my fav aswell.
Sadclown: thanks man. did you notice all of the bullet scars on the tattoo guy? he's been gaffled a few times.

Wyeth!!! hey man! i didnt know you wrere lurking around here.. you gonna be at the leaky livers party next week?
of corse you are..... TW will be there..
mcotie: thanks brudda!
Hammer_Stroke: i do all of my shading with pencil first,, then i smooth out the parts i want to be more subtle with a rubbing stump. i also subtract a lot with a kneeded erasor.
sin: Thank you!
CrazyJester: yep its a shame about the game. a lot of really talented and passionet people put a lot of hard work into it.
thanks.

wow someone has been busy, great work lono,
Its great to look at so much of your work at once. I am noticing that your characters and line work seem very smooth and streamlind and cleans. some rougher strokes, and hard edges and dirtier textures would add a nice contrast to your work and compliment your overal designs,
great work

Hey Lono, awesome drawings, I've seen these on another forum (or might've been here a loooong time ago) Are you the fellow that also did the concepts for American McGee's "Alice"? If I remember correctly you are, Zach:)
Great stuff as always!

thanks a lot salty!
Mr.Magnetichead: thanks duder... pilgrim???
piGfreeZer: you must have done some ninja haxor voodo cause my web page is not posted publically.. i dont mind, i just think its funny. :D i guess you followed the links from the pics eh? im glad you like the tattoo guy,, even though his pecks are deformed.

Lono> huh, I usually do this to see some other good stuff :p
And I'm not an "haxor"... but ... a ninja voodoo... yeah (good drawing idea, I'll think about it :D )
by the way, as you can see, I'm french, and I don't know what means "pecks"... Are you talking about the ankles ?

Man I would've liked to play that game.... very nice work.. but I like the concepts best of all! they're all very respectable (no boobs flippin' about, muscles rippin' shirts, etc.) they all keep very very nicely in the western idea..
what company was this for??
I would just like to see some rougher stuff.. like some sketchier lines 'cause some lines look deep and spark.. mabe bein' a little loos could liven them up some..
I'd like to see the sketches leadin' up to these

Awesome stuff Lono!!!!!!! Sorry would comment more but I need to go practice. Your work is convicting me!
Lono
December 16th, 2002, 04:42 PM
piGfreeZer: hah.. ninjavoodoo! the pecks are the chest muscles. i guess the ankles are tweaked too, but i wanted him to be bow legged from riding horses all the time.
Sammy: thank you.. i usually try to keep things respectable. thats the way i preferr to work but ill draw whatever im payed to draw in the end.
and yes,, the game would have been cool. its a damb shame.
i agree about the looseness. i need to loosen up. :)
MindCandyMan: hehe. thanks a lot brudda.

That was such a cool project.
You gave me the cold sweats when I watched you draw these things. Damn your rendering skill!
I like the chic the most. She has an unconventional beauty to her.
Nice work as usual.

Very cool concepts and obviously lots of development work went into this project - I like the way you render the muscles right down to the veins on the backs on the hands. Those little details add so much...

Very cool stuff !!
Even if it's not my favourite universe I like it.
Like things I read on the post here, you should have make it more powerful without changing the style with simple and fast graphic things to enhance the raw designs : grainy paper, maybe logos( I like them :) ), dark shape ( with design felt, paintings, rough pencil...) to add contract on them...
it's just a suggestion...Love to see them enhanced and ready to print ( for the artbook about this avorted video game project, i'll buy it :) )
It's funny, your rendering choice on this set reminds me some of my own stuff..."We're on the same page"
That's maybe why I like it :p

Great work/style man, love the costume designs/imagination to these. Something kinda reminds me a little of that biz comic, fistful of blood with the cowboy chick.
I agree that some more rougher lines/texture in areas would definetely added more contrast to the style.
Look forward to seeing more of your stuff in future!

SilverStylus: thanks man,, im glad the little details are appreciated.. i just hope your not noticing all the little things i screwd up or rushed through.. :)
TJ Verhagen: Thanks dood!
Aleksi: hah! hey thanks man!
your totally right. i do need something to give them a more powerful presentation. id put some symbols or logos behind them or something,, but then id be totally riping you off. :p
ill come up with something..
Yes,, the art book! i remember the conversation. :)
Lets do it! :)
It's funny, your rendering choice on this set reminds me some of my own stuff..."We're on the same page"
