Done in PS CS with Wacom (smallest size.. lol)

Looking for suggestions for more elements to be added into the picture.. Currently, there are too many empty spots around I feel..

C&C welcomed too! :)

The rendering looks good so far.
I think that you can't just "add elements" into this picture without asking yourself about the story, purpose and history of the sword. What is really going on? After you've answered these questions it would be much easier for people to help you.
Also, composition-wise, pretty much all the elements are moving at about the same diagonal angle. The eye just moves across the sword and off the page. When you are adding elements, experiment with adding objects that are either vertical, or go in the opposite diagonal direction (like / ) to let the eye travel more.

Lightning!!!! Thats what i say, use the pencil tool, draw thin lines off of it then use the airbursh and highlight it out around the line, THAT way no filters. I personally don't have a problem with them if its something like apply a highlight on a layer. I prefer it for a steady flow all the way around, no clumping. but YES lightning, like the sword of the Almighty HIMSELF! hehe
