ok, here is the second demo in goauche. THis one was layed in with washes, and larger washed values to start, then a tiling procedure developed over the top. When I get all 5 completed, I will come back and build a comprehensive step by step breaking down the method very clearly.
The idea is to learn how flexible a medium can be, and taking it in as many directions as possible to flex its diversity only helps you the artist find a quick and simple solution to a possibly difficult task.
More to come.

Sweet! :D Tutorials rule...Dig that indian looking fellow on the right. Is he one of the five?
(BTW, Ron...you rock...you take a lot of time from what I'm sure is already a busy teaching and personal schedule to constantly bombard these forums with tutorials. And I think that's just awesome. Thanks :D )
*edit: just saw the other thread..boy am I redundant :) *

Thank you so much! I've been looking high and low for some gouache tutorials. I've been experimenting with gouache from school. And keep making my paintings muddy because as you know, gouache is water soluable. Even after I wait for it to dry, then add layer, I still mange to pick up colors from the layer underneath it. I am dry brushing a lot btw, I hardly add any water to my paint. How do you keep layering without making your painting look muddy? Thanks for you time.

All these demo's are book worthy. Do please post more demo's. . . . these are really helping my gouache's along.
btw ron, what are you mixing to get those skin tones? oh, and for your next demo, make more pictures on your beginning stages. . . .i have trouble with that. . . . mine always looks so messy and indirect. Thx a lot! Im going to give this one a try on my spare.

Ron,
When you mention "more to come", do you mean in the form of postings on ConceptArt or will these ultimately be demonstrations in the DVD you're developing?
Thanks.

I've used gouache on watercolor books without much trouble. I prefer ones with a smooth paper surface and the thicker paper the better. I found one book intended for photoalbums that had nice thick acid-free pages. The pages can mark up the dried paint, especially ring binders which are looser, so I place tracing paper between them. Lately, I've found it easier to just have loose papers cut to small sizes that are placed in a binder. It's easier to handle and you can vary the sizes. You can get acid-free plastic sleeves to stick them in too.
Winsor & Newton and Da Vinci brands are good, but my personal favorite is Pelican, when I can find it, because it comes in bottles which I like more than tubes.
Any good watercolor brush will do. Soft red sables work well.
