Hey,
Done in PS7 over 2 days, about 8 hours. I'm not really confident painting in PS7
(for some reason, I have a block, may not look it, but I do...)
Crits, and advice, much welcomed...

The first thing I noticed is the uniformity of her skin tones. I know it isn't appropriate in all cases, but I tend to follow the rule that the extremities are redder, and broad expanses of skin are paler. Having said that, I guess she's meant to have an all over tan.
I think the sky could do with a bit more colour variety too; nothing too drastic, just a few subtle changes in hue. The cloud pattern is kinda distracting, perhaps if you lose the clouds in the bottom half, and scale back the top half, it would frame her better.
hope this helps

Summer pudding - ta mate, it does help. This was more of an excercise for colouring than anything else. (My colouring skills aren't too great...) The sky is a little distracting, so I will go away and change it.

It's a nice attempt molly, at least i'm convinced this does show potential for 8 hours of work.
I'm no expert, but my advice would be to use a ref image, and try reproducing it by placing the ref image in your canvas, and leaving enough space to brush the fugure next to it. start with a shape, or start from a sketch... or both...
use a 'black to white' gradient whipe bar for colorpicking, make more if you use color... and don't ever color pick from the ref. try to keep these practices under 2 hours...
I did only 2 practices like this, but i felt it worked for me, and plan on doing more,
maybe this helps.

a good excercise is using painter if you can aquire it, do self portraits, still lives or environments. painting in ps7 is no picnic especially if your trying to go realistically, go and use the ps7/painter method.
i use this alot, draw an image on painter, tranfer it on ps7 mess with the tones and whatnot, then go back in painter and take advantage of its line quality goodness. baack and forth, its a good start up practice thats hepled me a bit.

Hey Fellas,
Thanx for the advice, much appreciated! This started out as a quick positional sketch, then i scanned and coloured in black and white, then added the colour on multiplyed layers...
Ramon - I shall try that technique, thanx mate!
Imglue - I'd love to get my hands on Painter, i will soon, money a prob at the mo, but i'll get there.... I do find painting in Ps7 a pain, but for a real first attempt at getting somewhere near 'Ok' is an achievement for me. Thankx for your advice tho, I shall keep a note...
gasmask - if only eh? hehe
