Has anyone ever heard of The Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Art? It's located in Dover,NJ about 40 minutes from NYC.

If so can you give me some info on it besides what I can learn from The website? EX. Rep.

I've heard of it, I was recently accepted for entrance there. The school is, as I'm sure you've seen on there site, the only school in america dedicated to cartooning and animation.

There isn't a degree program, just certificates and diplomas. If you go all the way, it is a 3 year program. Everything I've read points to the fact that it is incredibly intensive attending there. Typical school day, outlined by some of the alumni there :
8am - 230pm - Class
230pm - 1200am working on assignments, with maybe an hour of free time to eat
The weekends are similarly eaten up by schoolwork. As I've heard it explained, you will have no social life, no free time, and it would be very difficult to hold a job while attending. Upside is, you will be drawing from the moment you wake, to the moment you go to sleep, seven days a week, for 3 years. Imagine the growth you could make in that time.
They are primarily for comic book folks, but they have an animation program, and courses that cover things like design, editorial cartooning, etc.
Typical starting class (1st year) I've been told is about 125-150, graduating class is typically around 25. So it's a small school, and the workload is just too much for some folks. But they are very career-oriented, meaning they want to give you the skills to succeed and deal with issues you would face in a very demanding industry, and some people just aren't built for it. Every year they have most of the big publishers recruiting the grad class, with portfolio reviews, etc.
Check out the forums on the website and check the alumni threads for more info.

Just a word of warning. I also wanted to go there out of high school, so i found emails for a bunch of graduates and asked them what they thought about the whole thing. Out of 3 people that replied, not one had anything positive to say.

Here is what they told me: None of them could find jobs doing anything they learned there. The instructors were a bunch of has beens, who also couldnt find jobs. They charge way too much for what they give back.

So that changed my mind :\

I would do your research more extensively before comitting. I dont think they are exactly cheap. They do have dorms there though, so thats a good thing.

While I have no direct knowledge of the school's good or bad rep. (at 1 point I wanted to go there myself) my former employer on Ultimate Spiderman (Hack Shack Studios) had some previous employees come from said school. My boss said that when they arrived at the 'Shack they pretty much knew all of the old way of inking and penciling. They could ink like any inker from the 50's and 60's, but they lacked in the more modern styles. THis was a couple years back when he mentioned this to me, so maybe it's changed. I'm curious to know myself.
