Hi,
I have a little problem. I'm doing a contest on cgtalk.com; "make a home built flying device".
I thought let's shoot out some ideas first, but I am afraid I have a couple too many...
An because this is conceptart.org, I thought what do you guys think?
Thanks and cheers, jeroentje

hehe, thanks, that was fast. The mouse with the wings is actually supposed to be a rat in a bird cache. He has bitten of the wings of the bird ;)

Sorry? For what?
I thought it might look better if it was shot looking at the back of the rat, low camera angle and the cachedoor open, sunlight on the face of the rat (so lighted from the back o.t. piece) as if flying is like his everlasting dream coming true and he is ready for take-off...

sorry for missing the concept of the pic :) and no matter now, im on your level. that description you gave of him flying out to his dreams is very appealing, id definately try to work with that. but the fact that he bit the wings off the bird will be vague unless you put the bird in the bottom of the cage and have blood or something... just a thought.

Yes you're right. Might become a too complicated story for 1 piece.
I am trying to choose the combination of A the most original idea, and B the most simple idea, I don't want my device to be too complicated. Simple is usually better IMO.
I was also thinking of a very clean illustrator thing on the watercooler rocket dude. To make a manual to build one yourself. Maybe like a spread from a manual book, with a painted action"photo" on one page and a very clean step-by-step of how to build it on the other.

Now that I read it back; I meant that the construction should be simple. There are lots of guys sticking everything they can find at home together with duct tape to make their flying things ;)

LOL, those are great!
I like the chicken and the rat best. You're a powerhouse - how long did it take you to develop those ideas? And: Are they scanned or did you create them in PS or Painter?

Thanks Jester.
This is Painter Classic, about 5 - 15 min. maximum a piece over a period of 2 days. I have a couple left not worth posting, cause I'm not gonna do 'em anyway. These are just for the concept.

Choose the Rat, choose the rat, the raaaat! :P

LOL... Why do I have the feeling that you like my rat, Jabo?
I just did this one: but the thing will probably tip over before the mouse gets burned by the hairblower... It would work though. This is the first prototype of a hovercraft by Mr Cockerell. Just without the undies, the skirts were invented a couple of years later to make it easier to steer (yes I watch the Discovery channel too much ;) )
I am thinking about doing the farm. But with a totally different angle. Like from above, looking straight in the terrified face of the farmer strapped on top of it in a lazy chair and a couple of gas-tucks far down on the ground covered in smoke...

Really cool sketches- what technique did you use to create them in Painter? And didn't the contest stipulate human pilots? :)

Thanks blackrazor :)
Technique? Just scribbling ...
Ehm, okay; light blue background, darkblue pencil for the lining, big fine wash brush for the shadows and the highlights (hairblower was the felt marker 4 the shadows and the airbrush for the highlights). After that a bit of pencil to go over some details that disappeared in the coloring. Photoshop 6 for a rotated crop and a save for web, et voila...
All were between 5 and 15 minutes.
I thought the pilot was optional and they said: "no aliens". So if I want to put a mouse in it; let 'em disqualify me. They should be happy I am entering in the first place LOL :)

well they all have great potential, the one i like the best is the dude with the freakin' ozarka bottle on his back and the air pump attached to it. That is great, and would actually work! I am going to try it later. Also the rat on the blowerdryer is good to.
