some drawings i done recently. looking for critique...

since i m tired of drawing the structure of the figrue, i try to deal with the light and shadow. and i get lost sometime. Just don't know how to .....

when I drew, I used to focus on the line quality. now i find difficulty drawing my old lines and doing the rendering at the same time. They don't fit together. or the lines r all gone after rendering. and if I push harder on the lines, my drawing looks cartoony........

and i don't know if the form of the figure is still clear in my new way of drawings.

Hi Auguste. I'm surprized this hasn't gotten some hits! I think these drawings are really good... I only hope when I tackle life drawing I can do anywhere near as well. Are you using conte?

To me, for the most part, the form isn't getting lost, except in a few parts here and there. Maybe some of the complex parts, where they're really foreshortened or overlapped severely are getting too busy and you might try to simplify them.

If there's anything cartoony about these, it might be because you're exagerating the curvature on a lot of the forms.

Anyway, I really like them... good work!

auguste-these are nicely handled. I like your line quality. To transfer over to just tone, you still need lines to render it, the tone that is. The lines are basically invisible to the eye once enough of them exist in one spot. It takes a light hand, and maybe a different tool to put them down right. THese are well articulated. The anatomy is pretty solid. You just needt to understand form and form shading. WHat we are doing over in the Head Drawing Assignment. If you can grasp that concept, and apply it to your studies, post them here and let us crit them, I think we can work you through your troubles. with the tones, use the whole side of your implement, not just the tip. Sharpen it with a sanding block and form a 1-2 inch blade, use this side to blast in volumes of value, and try not to make one stroke next to the other look linear, try and blend them, this will be your challenge...heh

Nice poses. Where are you taking life drawing classes?

Darkstrider - yes i use conte. i see what u mean. I don't know where should be simplified when i draw. i mean i probably know that, but not when i m drawing.....

Fredflickstone- Thank you. I will try what u said.

I have done some life drawing classes in some workshops and some at Toronto School of Art. they r all in Toronto. In here, I don't think the teachers "teach". They don't do any demo. They tell us what to do, and we do it ourself, I think. It seems to be that I teach myself or I have to teach myself. It is kind of difficult to me......
