Yet another holiday themed painting. I think it's for a calendar.
It's not my concept, and I managed to finish the whole assignment before I got the art director's joke. In my defense, he told me to paint a "Santa with talons."
Pretty sneaky, sis.

It loaded slow and the claws showed up latter - and boom. :scared:

I like it.
I was wondering(I'm fairly new to this); I notice in the closeup that it looks pretty...I dunno....sketchy, which gives it life and movement in a way. I was wondering if it turned out that way because you drew it "at a distance", so that when you zoom in it gets that sketchy look?
'Cause I usually work the other way around, by zooming in when I draw to get the details right, then zoom out to see how it comes along.
Seems to me you done it the other way around, and I'd like to learn that to give more life to my drawings, or at least have that technique as a second "weapon in my arsenal".
Nice work. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone.
¤ N G ¤: I often defocus my eyes a bit and focus on values, knowing it was going to be shrunk down quite a bit for final display on a web site. And I didn't work at full-zoom too much. I also tend to be a slave to my own marks, sometimes feeling reluctant to really detail things out. Plus I use flats in Painter, which never allow you too much control and also look blurry when the feature size is large.
You should try it, and I'll try to push for more detail. :)
Here's the full-rez version (http://www.davidhendee.com/images/santa_claws_large.jpg) version.
