Hi

So, I thought I post something I've done for some C&C.

This is the first thing I've done in oil ever. In fact it's the first thing I've done in color since grammer school (~10 years ago). I have never gone to any painting class or so. Considering that I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome. But let's face it, it's by no way a perfect painting. The colors is not so clear on this picture as they are on the original painting, but Il guess I'll have to live with that :)

The painting is suposed to be a two green apples on a wooden bowl that is turned upside down. The apples was ok, but the bowl was really hard. Guess I'll try something more easy next time. I haven't done a background, since I don't know what to put there, in real life the TV was the background ;)

Should I use a light or a dark background?

So any comments?

The apples look very nice but the bowl looks a little off on the sides. The perspective looks a bit skewed. Also the bowl doesn't seem to be casting any kind of shadow. All in all very nice for a first time in oil :)

This isn't quite finished yet, so a shadow will be added.
But you are so right about the perspective part. I thought it looked wrong, but could not put my finger on it. After trying a bit in photoshop i think I know how to correct it. The sides of it must be much straighter. I'll do that and add a background.

Thx for the response...

Hey AnteD,
I really like that impasto brushwork on the apples. About the bowl, what you need to do is see 'through' it when you draw it... think about the rim of it where it contacts the table. It needs to be an oval shape, just like the one you drew for the bottom of the bowl, only a little bigger. You shouldn't have points sticking out the sides the way they are. If you draw oan oval I think you can straighten out the problem there.

As for the background, you might try a medium tone. That can really create a sense of depth with a medium BG and then darks and lights on your foreground objects. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for your response Darkstrider.

I tried, what I think is, a medium tone on the background. The result is pretty ok I think. I also modified the bowl pretty much, looks better now if you ask me.

Well, please suggest modifications, anyone, otherwise I'm thinking of leaving it like this...
