Girl with gun (big Pic)

I was doing a practice painting last night trying to get lighting down and decided to do a pic with it its very early on now but thought id get suggestion on background and color i wanted a soft look so used desaturated colors next ill work on the girls face and features sharpening them up etc http://www.visualboo.com/misc/Gungirl2hours.jpg

The lips are trash so ill redo them and theres a black line on the eye that is screwing up symetry ( i think )
I always welcome suggestions on brushes layers etc its the only way i learn

I would try to block in the major shapes first. And when all that is working and you have defined the form then you can start softening edges.
Don't rush in with the air brush.

this is just the way I work so it is only a suggestion.

go to Craig Mullins site and download and read JS Sargents notes on painting. There is some great stuff in there.

Thanks K I just read them, learned alot hopefully il be able to apply them good stuff about light in there as well !
