I'm looking for months for a cartoonist to draw a project of comic book that I have written. A friend of mine is going to translate the scenario (18 sheets, thanks to him ^^) in english (too long for me to do it myself... I'm too lazy and too busy).
This project will take place in two books of 54 pages each, titled "The Seventh", a mystic story. You must know that there's some parental advisories on some scenes (not in France but in other countries it could be, anyway I'd like to publish in France).

I am looking for a cartoonist able to draw nice landscapes, simple way of lifes (a part of the story is in a little village), big towns, big destructions, expressive faces and corpses.
A melt of poesy and trash.

Let's speak about financial side of comic art in France.
Drawing one book usually takes more than one year, paid by advance on royalties. One publisher called Dupuis Publishing pay people with a salary by page and than with royalties after the 1rst book published and sold. AS far as I know, it's the only one doing this way.

There is always a dead line in contracts but French publishers are not as American or Japanese ones, they accept to give a delay.
Usually, a young cartoonist is paid between 182€ and 300€ by page (it depends of the publisher).

The royalties are between 4% and 6% of the public price without VAT of the book for the cartoonist and the same for the scenarist. The price of a book is between 10 and 13€.
In the case the contract says that you are paid with advance on royalties, you must wait that books are sold enough to cover this advance, than the publisher will pay royalties. Usually, you need to sell approximately 10,000 books in France to cover this advance. If you manage to sell 10,000 books you are considered as a middle seller. Some people sell more than 200,000 or 400,000 books (three authors are around 1,000,000 books sold) and some people sells around 5,000.
Everything depends of the public. France is not yet a big comic industry (it's becoming), there's still place for Art. You can stay poor or you can become rich, or just earn enough money to have a good simple life.

To send a project to a publisher, we must show three pages drawn and colored, sketches, the full scenario and 15 pages of the storyboard with dialogs. Of course, before to get a contract, nothing is paid (so that's a bet).

If you are interested in, send me a mail or a mp with pictures or a link to your artwork.

Many thanks !
