Hey all,
Well, I wanted to continue trying to paint but my scanner is still all screwed up so I asked Davi if I could paint one of his sketches. Him being the kind gentleman that he is, he agreed. This is my second actual try at digital painting and was helped along greatly by Killing.People's little tutorial in his 'digital.painting.struggle' thread (so thanks man!)
This is all photoshop, done with a mouse and like I said, the awesome concept and sketch is Davi's. I'm not even going to tell you how long this took me cause it's embarassing. :)
So come on, hook me up with some C&C!!

Ok, Sadclown...here we go...
YOU DAMNED BASTARD! LOOK at the creature! WATCH IT! It's not a bloody flat piece of paper there! It's some organic living beast, which is ready for ripping your dumb head off your dumber body! MORE VOLUME! You need to put more shadows...this creature must have a 3d-looking head...
AND WHAT ABOUT STRUCTURE? You nerd, never seen some structure? Is your body looking the same on every part? Look at its/your glums! It's coated (right word?) with liquid, like with your disgusting spittle for example. SO IT MUST BE MORE SHINY! Same to the teeth and the eye! TEXTURE, BABY! You ever heard that? NO? I knew...hopeless...
You could use a different contrasting color than green (like orange or purple) to make the rendering more interesting, more lively, deeper...
Now go and make this goddamned piece into ass-kicking ruling artwork...you got nerves...
Sadclown, it's your turn..:p

Oh man, I'm so hurt now. I can't believe you said all that. I'll never paint again....
just kidding. :D
seriously though, that's exactly what I wanted. Yeah, it Is flat, big time. I really need to work on form alot more, but this whole working with color thing is so new to me. I had never thought about the teeth and gums but you're absolutely right. They do need to be mroe shiny.
So in response...Give me a day or two and I'll make you eat your words, I swear it!!!!
hehe look for an update soon.:)

Try to give it more contrast..stronger highlights, darker shadows, etc..make it hot =)

Alright Fozzy, here's the new one. i worked my ass off on this and tried to take all of your advice. Stronger highlights, and darker shadows...you got it. I think it looks alot better.
The only thing I couldn't get was, how the hell do you make something look wet?!   I worked on the teeth and gums forever and just ended up making them look worse, so that's gonna stay until someone explains how to make something look wet and glistening.
Alright here it is. Let's hear it! :D

Yes...that's better! The neck/head part looks really good!
Use sharp highlights for making something look wet...just take something, maybe a pingpong-ball, look at it, especially the light reflections. Then wet it with water and look at it again...drawing/painting is a all about watching/analyzing...
How about making the tongue a different color? It shouldn't be a big deal with layer-adjusting...but it would give the viewer a better understanding of the creature and it's anatomy...
What do you think, how your creatures rendering is coming out, davi? Care about your babies! :p

Thannks, Fozzy. I've really worked hard on this. I'll take another go at the teeth and gums. The tongue....well I didn't really know what Davi had in mind with that so I went with the same color for the main piece. Now I'm looking at it and thinking maybe a dark purplish grey? Anyway, I'll work on it a bit more. Thanks again for taking the time to crit it!
Ya know I'm curious to hear what Davi thinks too. Gimme a reply Davi!
