Hi everyone!
I am new to the whole conceptart.org thing, so I figured I should introduce myself with a little comic character design that I am working on. Possum is a redneck superhero who turns from yer average trailer-park-livin', wife-beater-wearin' hick into a giant ravenous possum when he drinks his radioactive moonshine. Here's the first images:

Let me know what y'all think. I will post panels from the comic as soon as I get 'em done.
Thanks,

are you serious as in, while I won't judge the concept, the execution is amateurish.

Al, I'm not sure what ROTFLMAO stands for, but as soon as I have more I will definitely share it.
.cfb, no, I am not really serious. It is a comic, you know, like a joke.
shortmikeshort, I know it is amateurish, I was trying to keep it simple and stylized because I am an amateur when it comes to comic creation. I was really more interested in the whole concept of a redneck superhero and what sort of image and powers he would have. Also, there are plenty of comic artists out there whose work looks amateurish or simple.
Anyway, thanks for the criticism, that's what I was looking for. When I do something more complex I will share it too.

Work can look amateurish for two reasons: A)It was a conscious choice to be simple and childlike. Or B)the Artist can't draw very well.
It seems like the two should look the same in the end result, but there's actually a very subtle and sublime difference.
I think you're B. Sorry.

Tho im a newbie myself I can offer one piece of advice:
Lay off the filters and start using that brush.
Good luck!

just a very personal note (which means it's not really based on artistic knowlege)
like Nikos said i would skip the gradient background cause it does not really fit to the picture and maybe you shouldn't cut off parts of the figure in that two cases .also in the first picture it looks like he got pupils which are gone in the second .pupils may give you much better possibles to express the emotions so maybe you should keep them.

Well, thank you all very much for your kind words of encouragement. In response, here are my first sketches for the first three frames for "Possum" the comic. I also included some preliminary character sketches of Possum in his human form and his girlfriend, Maybelline. Enjoy!

well, welcome
i think it has potential, maybe his arch nemesis could be some giant swamp croc with a mullet. his superhero vehicle could be like a john deer agricultural tractor that shoots bails of hay. Maybe, just maybe, he could be a hero to us all.
on a serious note, how far do you intend to go with this? one of my friends go into flash animation, which is primarily a 2d animation program for the computer, it's pretty cool and powerful. maybe if you have enough time you could give it a try.
see, you could scan in your drawings, touch them up with photoshop, and then animate them and add music and voiceovers and whatnot.
you got the creativity part down, good luck

i think it's about time someone celebrated the powers of moonshine. i think the concept is brilliant, and hope that you will come up a with a nemesis. i don't think a mullet-headed croc would do well, since it seems like earl has a mullet already. who is the rednecks' enemy? queer eye? gentrification? i don't know. but, i do like the girlfriend aspect. i'm sure a family will be right around the corner.
visually, i think it needs more style, but that will come.
