Interest in H.P. Lovecraft and his ilk seem to be quite popular round these parts, so I thaught a devoted thread would be a good idea. Let's see some tentacles!

You should have just called it "The Cthulhu Thread" no one draws anything else but this lovecraftian backstreet boy... :E

I hope someone draws the Great Race of Yith, or Nyharlathotep, or Shub Niggurath... just something different for a change :D

It doesn't!? There goes my initial post.

Seriously though, the work is great. The background color (yellow) really creates a strong contrast from the figure to the environment, making it pop out much more. Detail seems like a lot of time was put into this, which I'm sure pays off, huh?

Thanks for your comments.

MuffinMan - All done in Painter 8.

Gr8t100 - Actually these are all sketches done in under an hour (apart from the first which took about 1h20). I applied water colours over the oils to get texture, so they're not half as detailed as you might think. ;)

One final pic' for tonight: The King in Yellow.

A simple little thing I did last year.

I was so proud of it at the time

Cronus - I like the double wings and how he's squating.

Gumdrop, I love you :D Almost as much as I love Lovecraft's stories though ^^.

These look totally great! They seem really true to Lovecraft's descriptions / some of the pictures in the Call of Cthulhu manual. I dare someone to do Yog Sothoth or one of the Yiths! o.O

These are certainly not how i envisioned the Cthulhu gods, Lovecraft is relatively vague in many of his descriptions granted. Everyone always seems to depict cthulhu in the same manner, id like to see dagon, yog sothoth, Nyharlathotep, or randolfh carters dreamquest. The silver gates would be a sight to behold and what about the plateau of leng! nice to see work in lovecrafts universe though. Check out dave carson's stuff for some awesome depictions of the elder gods!

Thanks for your comments.

Replicant - Yes I agree these aren't exactly original or well done, but I'm having fun and playing around. I did spend more time on this Dark Young, and I think the design is a little more different looking than the average critter. i don't know if the legs work though.
