Yeah, before he starts on the screen, I don't get it because I haven't played zbrush before. his zbrush background is just a blank canvas while mine is grey. I wonder what did he do?

You can change the background color in the Document menu. You're going to see differences in the interface, as he's using ZBrush 2.0. The latest version is 4.0, which has changed quite a bit. You should be able to follow Android's demo ok, it just will be harder if you're trying to learn ZB's interface at the same time.
Perhaps you should try some of the intro to ZB videos here (http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/homeroom/tutorial.php?lesson=beginner) to get up to speed.
