I know my question will seem naive for some of you but I am kind of lost for the moment.

I am a french artist, I did a lot of cover art for young adult litterature for french publishers, most of the important ones I think. I started to work as a cover artist for Marvel last year, and I would really like to do some cover art for US literature publishers, but the submission system seems very diferent.
In France, mostly, I phone and ask for a appointment with a publisher or I send a PDF with a link to my online portfolio, and it usually works quite well.

As I plan to be in New York in october for the comic con, I thought I would contact several art directors in order to meet them, but I cannot find any specific contact email for artists.

I am a bit lost. Can anybody advise me? How do you contact art directors or publishers ?

Ho and another thing, I received a proposition to be represented by an agent, but I 'm not sure it is a good idea... Is it something common in United states for artists ?

Call the comapnies up and explain what you want and ask that way. Usually they will give you the extension or contact info for the right person. All companies have websites with general phone numbers on them.
