Spartan Camp #191 - 50 gestures + Optional "Still Life Study"

The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 24th of July.

- The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!

- In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Still Life Study", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:

We're taking a small break from anatomy to do something different. A classic exercise this week! This one is completely open-ended, you can fill it in with whatever objects you wish. You do not necessarily have to go with fruits and drapery. Look around, collect some interesting items, put them together and do a study! Consider your light source when you set up your composition!
A still life has obvious advantages. Your subject is not moving, you are free to go as detailed and in-depth as you wish (not necassary though). The experience is vastly different from studying off pictures and photographs. Have fun and learn something new!

As always- reference advised, not obligatory. Colour, medium, time frame, any specifics are up to you! Good luck and have fun! And feel free to ask questions!

50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.

Criticizing each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference images and resources!! Let's help each other get better!

Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!

deadlyhamster - Nice, these Bridgman studies are better already!
Seeing a lot of progression in those hands you did yourself as well. There's bits and pieces of Bridgman in there, but you're also following your own process. Pretty good!

Starting with warmup gestures from posemaniacs. Went with advanced mode, which apparently mirrors poses and puts them upside down.

@Anthis Your drawings are so steady and precise, even on those upside down
poses, yikes!

@Deadlyhamster I love the watercolours, I've never tried painting any life
drawings.

I prefer flesh models over the posemaniacs, they seem so stiff. Someone showed me these really useful sites for nude posing, they're like posemaniacs but with photos of fleshy people:

and
http://lovecastle.org/draw/

I prefer the first one.
Pretty busy this week, this is all I have so far:

Toes are so difficult...

Joining in the camp this week, great work everyone!
Deadlyhamster- Nice watercolors! It's great that you're applying what you're learning from bridgeman, I can tend to just copy his drawings and not get much out of them.

Anthis- Nice lines! Drawing upside down sounds hard.

Jenny- Doesn't look like they're difficult, those toes are great! #4 seems a bit short though. The rendering on #1 is awesome! Those sites are a big help, right? I've had them in my signature for months 'cause I wound up telling people about them all the time!

I didn't count, but I think I got over 50 gestures here, plus a 2 hour still life.

Last week was spent on house hunting again... It's quite tough.

I have just these :(

I needed something simple to get used to my different pencil grip and everyone were talking about mylittlepony, sorry... (I do think the animators know something I don't. I just hate the stupid anime eyes and the stories are extremely shallow/naive/smooth as well. "I was a jerk, sorry!" "It's okay, I love you.")

Some lolcats.

No optional this time.

camera still lost at a friends house, but I'm still here!

deadlyhamster-- nice blocking out and shading. I've never done it, but it seems like a good way to simplify form.

Anthis-- cool warmup poses, do you think you do better or worse when the poses are upside down?

jenny7332-- I love the crinkly soles of the feet, and also the back is really nicely done. Dark pink, huh? ;) Number 4 looks like the leg attaches too close to the toes, with the heel too far back, imo.

Vertical-- beautiful, dynamic and stylized gestures! Deffinitally a comic book feel.

samming-- nice reflections on the cup. They may be a bit smudged though, hard to tell what kind of material it is.

shiNIN-- you're doing way more bodies and they're looking great! I hope you're starting to enjoy them. I love the angry looking white lolcat!

I missed SC this week... But you won't escape from my stuff so easily. I did more but they aren't so nice. Not like I'm actually proud of that zombie looking blondie girl, for example...

I need to draw more human bodies but they are so damn hard. I know, that's why but I lose heart after a few fails.
