Its a pretty basic japanese program but it is surprisingly good for how simple it is.
Pluses:
1. You can connect to other people and draw with them on the same file. This has actually been taken out in later versions (I don't know why... because it was an awesome function)
2. The playback feature. Your drawing can be recorded seen by anyone else who has opencanvas.
3. Sheer smoothness of the lines. I don't know what they did... but there is a quality to the brushes that is very nice and clean.
Really not much like Painter other than the fact that its another program you can draw with.

are there any programs out there right now - which allow multiple user painting at the same time?

I am not sure...
But you can download earlier versions of opencanvas in some places. In fact... if you log onto the CA IRC room and ask... someone probably has a link. I am sure Davi does.

Toaster, you mentioned that Open Canvas has produce very nice and clean strokes. Are they nicer and cleaner than those of Painter 8? I'm wondering which program to use.

i just painted a drawing someone did and it looks great!
the brushes are very clean and smooth not pixel like...but still painter 8 or 7 can still do so much more than open canvas..open canvas as a free hand painting program..it is very very simple and quick to learn. Painter has more complications to it. it is mainly a free for all illustration program and the thing is is that in painter some of the brushes require a special layer or layer set ups...most of the brushes do special effects. u can make some and customize your brushes and the colors are rich in depth and quality. so i kinda prefer Painter 7 or 8 over Open canvas, because of its features and capabilities. I only like OpenCanvas for how easy it is to use.:D

Well in Painter you obviously have a whole bunch load of brushes, in Opencanvas there are 2: the pen and the paintbrush. Both opencanvas brushes have this smooth clean quality to them that is really quite different from the time of smoothness in painter.
But yeah... Opencanvas is amazing for its simplicity.
