WOW!! art center, ill be going there next year. It looks pretty good to me. Maybe you could exagerate even further the features so that they stand out more. What if the fin things on the sides were bigger. might help? I just want to see the finak version. I can imagine it with a lot of texture and in a darker brownish tone.

The first(and only) thing I noticed right away, was the teeth.
They wouldn't be very functional if this creature was alive?

Maybe give it more teeth, and change the front tooth; make it smaller or change the front tooth into maybe two smaller ones.

Other than that I think it looks very nice. :)

Upper center tooth does clash. If it was more than one tooth in the style of the others the feeling of fear would be stronger.

For myself, I might try pushing the nose back or the crest behind the nose back. Functionally I would think the crest would protect the brain. The space between the crest and the nose is so small a brain might not fit in there.

Maybe lower the height of the nose. The proportion around there looks odd for some reason.

Course I have never seen a real dinosaur or alien before so what do I know? ;)

Yah I think the teeth need improvement. I like the large front tooth but I think it is too bulbous. I pulled back the lower jaw to make more room for the overbite -it looks better now.

I will add a series of smaller teeth.

Thanks guys!

You might have to scale up the size of your eyes there is a little bit of space around the eye and lids. my 2c.

If it were me I would would add a few more teeth and some bulging vein/tendon/muscle things down each side of the neck. I would make them fairly visible too. (I hope that made sence to you.) I think a rough looking texture would look good on it also. Acople of horns in a crecent shape attached to the chin might make it look more menacing also. Just the first first ideas off my head, hopefully one might set you off.

Here is my progress:
http://www.geocities.com/messfx/Concept/render3.txt

I still need to fix the eyes and add a tongue w/ saliva. The bump map is still very rough -I will be adding more wrinkles and veins after I clean up the scales.

Right now I am concentrating on the color scheme. So far this is what I have come up with.

Thanks guys

Cool! Don't know if you were already planning on it, but if you're going to present this you might want to change your lighting setup. Your dead on spotlight sort of flattens the image. A simple three point lighting setup could really add a lot. Just a thought! :)

Umm... I like the big ass tooth in the front... it may not be functional in real life.. but does this thing really exist???

I know if somethin' like that was comin' at me my first thought wouldn't be "That tooth is SO non-functional!!"

it would be more like "There's a huge severed alien head attackin' me!!... Son of a Bitch!!!"

...just my thoughts.... keep the tooth......... the whole thing looks great... and it might be neat to see some "drapary" hangin' from one end of his creast to the other.. if he's an intelegent beast that is... or maybe a royal beast...

Hey mess, before you said 'bump map' I couldn't decide if it was a painting or 3D art. I have no complaints (except maybe for the symmetry of his front tooth), excellent piece.
