i love this thing! the colors are very well"themed" i guess...they all follow that red scheme. the shapes are cool, and i like the idea of the building and the way they are set up. i agree with the blast of the ship thing, though..maybe fade it out, or add a more complex scheme to it...jut ideas. other than that, i am very happy looking at this piece. It has earned, in my opinion, the prestigeous title of "FONKY FRESH"

I would love to see one of your covers on a book by Asimov, Clark or Simak. (The Martian cronicles by Bradbury was neat too.)


You know sometimes when you have a detail that doesn't work, and you make one radical stroke that fixes it, and suddenly it just works... I'm not sure if the large dark stroke on the moon was such a thing, but sometimes you get so happy by the fact that it suddenly works, that you forget that you can elaborate a bit more.
I think the large dark stroke on the moon could be elaborated a bit more, cuz it looks too much like an artificial stroke now.

I dunno, maybe I'm just damaged by looking at too many moon/planet pics. I'm fascinated by exploring cratered surfaces. Straight lines are very rare in nature so I spotted it right away.

The moonstroke actually caught my eye as well, but dammit sparth, you gone and done it again, lookin amazing. The swirly architecture and its colormood just rocks! Always an inspiration.

The blast of the ship in the foreground looks good for me... No blur or fade out or other effects, just lines...It would even be really interesting to use this kind of graphic gimmick a lot more in the picture...Because all of your pictures had already a real strong graphic sense (lines, shapes, graphic signs, stroke) it seems something really natural to use more...

The composition is really nice, as well as the color palette. I'm a litlle dissapointed by the design of the architecture and ships - very mundane to me. But that's not a theme I am very familiar with anyway.
What is most strange to me is the lack of depth in the scene. I don't feel like the buildings/city in the background are very far away - maybe because they are sketchy? They look very close to the 'camera' almost like a theatrical backdrop rather than a distant object. And the moon frankly looks to me like a huge ball just sitting on the ground behind that city. There is no feel of it being something very distant and below the horizon.
I like the picture but those elements are so distracting to me that I can't see anything but that.

Just my weak opinion.

I too was a little caught by the straight round hard brush marks across the moon especially the one horizontally across the surface since it's on a natural object. I love the shapes as always. :D

a bit more tide than your usual paintings ive seen before and i think it looks a lot better. As for the lack of depth, put in some color perspective, or some more objects for a sense of scale now there is only a big blob of black in the middle

I have to echo Mike, though. Your work has a perfect balance of looseness and "unfinished" quality vs. visual clarity (no ambiguity, etc.), but the exhaust from that ship in the lower left is removing the illusion. It's just a little too rough / unfinished looking. To a certain extent I think the brushstrokes on the planet or moon are doing this too.

The painting's beautiful, but I agree with Black_fish that it'll be even better if you opt for more interesting designs for the ships. (I think the architecture is fine. but the ship designs just look too common and unspectacular...)
