Ha!:D

This is going to produce some interesting submissions, I think. Either that, or there will be like 3 posts all day.

And they'll all be from the DSG Bot because it's so lonely. :)

(still awed by all the cowboys yesterday--Good going, guys!)

Hey guys,

After a few months(!) of lurking on the DSG and being awed by the talent I see here, I figured it was time I contributed something myself. Total time = abt. 15 minutes. Materials = scrap printer paper (20lb.), broken and dulled #2 pencil, dying uniball vision fine tip pen. Oh yeah, and I had to take a picture of it with my camcorder because I don't have a scanner yet (but I do have a tablet... curiouser and curiouser...)

I've wanted to put something up for some time, but being a writer and not a graphic artist, I have to be really picky about things I want to even try (which is the wrong attitude, I know... draw everything, even if it's awful). But my last job was working a nursing home and before that I volunteered at a hospital, so you might say I'm sort of a "wheelchair connoisseur." :)

Great work today, yesterday (my god yesterday was a good day for sketches), and everyday. Hopefully I'll lose some of my shame and start posting here more often.

Cheers!

-C.J.

There's absolutely no need to be ashamed about anything you post on the DSG Penance, no-one else is! The whole idea of this group is to promote quick and frequent sketching, quality is secondary to quantity and enthusiasm!

Just give it half an hour a day, post everything an anything you come up with, and be open to critisism, and you will get a lot out of the experience. I've only been participating myself for a week or so (lurked for months), but already I feel I have improved noticeably, and my confidence has soared, so go for it!

The only downside is the occasional uninspiring topic...I just can't seem to think of anything that gets me fired up today!

5 minutes, mech pencil on copy paper.

Perspective on the wheels is wonky.

Helzer, man. Jeez. Very nice, sir.:) I can't wait to go home and pump out a sketch.

Any of the more accomplished PS/Painter artists willing to share some thoughts about creating custom brushes? I don't mean sharing the actual brushes (not that I would complain :D ), but rather what process you use to come up with them in the first place. I can't seem to make any of worth.

Admittedly, I've only been drawing directly in Photoshop for about a week, but still. Nice to get the expert opinions.

Take care!

hey id just like to add.. on a wheelchair it would be good to have flip stoppers on the back (bar going down toward ground with mini wheels) so that it doesnt topple

Osmus
April 26th, 2004, 07:11 PM
the idea here is the cripple sits on the stool. he uses the rakes to push himself forward, sort of like ski's. (there are rubber stoppers on the ends for grip) if the cripple gets stuck, he can use the rakes to hook onto something and pull himself out if need be.

Here it is. I spent a lot of time on the wheels, and kinda banged the rest of it out to make it under the time. Barely. Or maybe over the time. Barely. Whatever the case, I'm around the time limit. :D

oh yeah. it's cat powered. The cat goes into the cylinder on the bottom (A slat has been removed on top to take the cat out)

No time for myself today...dealing with my own site today.

village idiot - Very nice work... poor soul whom has to use it though. Great lighting and colors, including a very well thought out design.
Helzer - Oh my... that guy has given Stephen Hawkings a run for his money. Textures and design are top notch. And the little details like the air cannister add so much to the concept.

Hey everyone,

Quick round of comments and criticisms before I head off to bed.

Great work everyone today. Really fantastic and inventive interpretations.

Major applauds for sheer novelty of the concept go out to gekitsu (oh so royal, spikes and all. I really like the armrest shadow), villiage idiot (crazy, crazy design), artistanbul (just love the composition), Osmus (goddamn gimps getting to ski around on barstools), and ArtoriusRex (that's right, put those smug muthaf---in' felines to work!).

eygji, yours makes me cry. Hope you're happy that some tree gave it's life so you could wheel your ass around. =)

Helzer, yous looks incredible, but, ah, I'm not seeing the wood... :D

Night everyone, or morning for those of you in alternate timezones. Hope to see you all tomorrow, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel.

This is a scavenged design, but more practical than it looks:

http://hjhornbeck.homelinux.org/dsg/homemade_wheelchair__large.jpg

From childhood, I know stairs are the most comfortable piece of furnature to sit on. If you want to exercise your legs, you can sit up front and scoot along with your feet Otherwise, you can locomote by using the oars.

Plenty of cargo room.

Inked in 15 minutes on a train. Which should explain a lot.

I'd also like to submit my variation on Godwin's Law (http://info.astrian.net/jargon/terms/g/Godwin_s_Law.html): given sufficient time, everyone incorporates a toilet into one of their works, and in doing so realizes they are running out of ideas.

If I had more time, I would have tossed up a CAD drawing. But then, as a mechanical engineer, I MIGHT be at a slight advantage in designing (*functional*) homemade wheelchairs. I tried to go 1800's on this one and give it some mechanized features (lower efficiency but more ergonomic for the arms) for propulsion. The funny thing is, I originally thought to model the "oars" after a machine you'd commonly find at a gym.

Cool topic this time. Mostly because I'm tired of dragons, gods, and egyptian whatever.

It's a goblin death-machine. It's sad that this is what comes to mind when someone says, "homemade wheelchair" to me.:D

http://home.comcast.net/~paranormalbob/goblindeathmachine.JPG

It doesn't look like it would fool anybody to us, but to goblins this thing is like the stealth bomber of trojan horses. Unfortunately, only goblins fall for this ("Don't shoot! It's handicapped!"), so the remains of obliterated wooden paraplegics account for almost one-third of all battlefield litter.

One hour on the dot in Photoshop.

Everyone did great with the tough topic today. My faves: DV8, Helzer (aaagh! Love it!), Artistanbul, and Village Idiot.

Keep up the good work, everybody! Goodnight!

Thanks for the kind words, Ideaspark. I'm still trying to find out what I'm doing with Photoshop--I've been strictly using pencil, pen and ink all the way through school, so color, not to mention PS, is totally new to me.

Glad you liked it!
