Blackarts

I did these this week after I realized I was slipping back into my comfort zone a bit and not trying new things.
First a couple faster ones just to loosen up with the brushes...I think some mignola slid into the second one.

things started to gel a bit with these two. I got the black border idea from Sparth's post, he's the man.

Damn, those really are great. Wonderful to see the different brushes and how they influence the texture of certain areas. I really love the first and last one for that effect. The first is definately my favorite...I'm not sure why, but there's a graphic quality to it that I really like. Really solid, heavy feel to the paint.
Man, I really need to learn how to use painter (or maybe learn how to paint first ;) ).

I really like the last one. Collar armours are just too cool.
First one has a bit of overdefinition on the arms me thinks. I don't think you'd be seeing as much shadow on the delta/shoulder muscle. Putting a bit of skin/fat on muscly guys only makes it look better/more realistic I think.
Second is a bit flat and messy, takes a while to read. Lack of silhuette maybe.

Great work... like very much the 2 last ones, very good mood and tonal variation.
Keep it up!

Hey Blackarts,
I really dig these paintings. Well executed and a lot of flair. But I'd really love to see you introduce more dynamics and movement in your poses. The last one for example is the only one telling a story through the way the character is moving. You don't need to toss background into a piece to tell the story for you, if you're able to capture the moment of movement right on. You should get rid of the stiffness going on and just do. I know you can.

thanks for the comments so far -
Prometheus; your absolutely right about that anatomy, it's a bad habit from too much comic type drawing, and it's just overdone. Your also right about the silouhette on the second one. Thanks!
Marko; Glad you like these - I really take any advice you give to heart since you kick a boat-load of ass with your work. I think the last is my favourite for just the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for tips.
Skankl if you know any photoshop you're already well on your way. It's not that bad.

Great as always... the last two are my favorites. I'm digging the creepy ass design of the third, but the 4th feels the most solid of them all.

thanks all...
Skank; lately I've been trying a bit of everything. Airbrushes (pepper spray, coarse spary, etc), scratchboard rake tool, lots of chalks, the leaky pen, and of course the usual round camel hair and smeary round. I find playing with the feature and jitter controls produces some iteresting effects.
sketch; thanks, second two are my favourite as well.

Black, just about fell off my chair at the last one, your work is really taking some huge strides!
Some of your more common practices (such as using tubes or wires from equipment to character) are really leading the eye well here.
Fantastic stuff man, keep pushing!

judge;
thanks, I'm 27 and have been using painter for almost 2 years. Before I got into Painter I modeled and textured in 3D packages like Maya, but I found it took to long to produce a nice looking picture, and for me it was faster just to paint it. Other than that I've just always drawn a lot and of course read a lot of comic books. =)
cheers

Hey, I think your work properly displays that you know what you are doing in painter, however based on this assumtion I think you can come up with more dynamic paintings. I think the colors you use are great but you can use more of them in more places. Great Artwork!!
