Here's a little Painter 7 doodle that I made while experimenting with some new brushes.

While painting this I had a little bit of an unfortunate realization; I'm not good at rendering lighting schemes for full scenes in mind. Hense, most of my work is usually profile. Can anyone recomend any good lighting and composition tutorials, online?

Thanks. And feel free to give whatever feedback you may have.

Yes, take as many life drawing classes as you possibly can, and get a few posable, clamp on lamps and constantly change the lighting around....candles help too, if you want the really dramatic feel.

the alien looks pretty good but youre signature really takes the attention away from your painting--take me for example i dont even sign my work--if i post it you know its mine cuz its my post

also you should use reference when possible--you obviously didnt use it for th eguy. Do small thumbnails when designing a peice( compostion, lighting etc)---do variations

you got some painting skills though keep it up ty

Thanks for the replies.

RipperMcGuirl: Thanks. I start taking classes as an art major this next semester. Figure/ life drawing are some prerequisits that I'll have to take first. I think I need to get into the habit of drawing every day, again. When I do get the time to do so, I usually get frustrted as I don't like what I see.

tyboogie: Thanks. Yeah, I agree. My guy does look pretty messed up. I was going for a sureal, expressive look but it ended up looking funny instead. As for the sig, I learned first hand what happens when you don't sign your work, a couple years ago. I guess it could be smaller though. I didn't really care since this was really just a quick grayscale doodle.

Thanks again, guys.

I dunno. If you want to protect your work from unauthorized use then use some kind of watermark. But that signature looks pretentious, and is also easily airbrushed out. I never sign my stuff, but to each their own. But yes life drawing is a good way to go, now if only you can find aliens to pose for you....
