I'm leaning towards getting into videogames and it may be a pipe dream but I'd love to be a concept artist in the industry. Particularly, designing characters would be hella-fun.
There is a school in Toronto called Max the Mutt Animation School (http://www.maxthemutt.com). Tuition is roughly $6,000 per year and I would be taught by teachers who have a great deal of experience and alot of passion for the field. Unfortunately, that field is animation. It's not terribly unfortunate, animation is fun in itself, and would certainly get me into the videogame field. However, will I be able to move past game animation and into concept art? Or would it be a better idea to go into fine arts and improve my skills as an artist and get into the field that way.
I'm 22 and I know I still have alot of time. I was thinking about travelling and see how that affects my art. I *always* have my sketchbook and a trip to Florence would be unbelieveable. Not to mention many other places in Europe.
I know my direction, but I don't know the paths I should go down to further myself in that direction.
Tomorrow, I'm going to be calling videogame studios and hopefully interviewing their artists to see how they got where they are.
