Hey everyone! I posted this in my sketchbook a little while ago, and it seems some people found it helpful. I just remembered we had a tutorial section, so I figured I'd post it here too! It's more of a process breakdown than a step by step tutorial, but I hope you guys find it helpful. Lemme know if you have any questions.
UPDATE: Just wrote up another step by step, walking through a different process for drawing characters in photoshop. Let me know if anything is unclear :)
UPDATE 2/03/2012: Just adding another tutorial I've written up here on my King Dodongo piece.
ALSO: For those of you interested in brushes, there are some great sets at this link, all you should ever need.

Outstanding work. You make it seem fluid and natural. I can tell you're a fan of Justin Sweet and Vance Kovacs.

This is very helpful! Thank you for sharing. I like that last step in the first example, with the second light source. I wouldn't have thought of that.

Awesome, very helpful!
Thanks heaps!
When we use photo ref like this, like to just get the pose right or a little help with anatomy, should we give credit to the photographer, or do we need to ask permission, etc?
Thanks!

Hey everyone! Glad these are helpful for some of you! I put a link up top to some solid brush sets, so if you find your own brushes are lacking, check some of those out!
jsn Hey thanks! When using photo ref in this manner, there's no need to contact the creator/copyright holder. The final illustration in no way resembles the photograph. Nothing is copied from it, just a quick check on female anatomy.

Excellent post. I m thoroughly enjoying your work and much more appreciate seeing them with your process in mind. You see the image as a whole composition. Working out your value scheme at the inception. It is such a free way to attack a design immediately entering into color as well. With my long experience in sketching figures from life as its own end, not in any relative space, I'm finding it is quite an effort to think this way.
Truly appreciate when talented and smart approaches are shared because it clarifies a step that may have been holding someone back without knowing what that hold-up was.
Thanks for the process and your thoughts!
