Spartan Camp #180 - 50 gestures + Optional "Material Study"

The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 8th of May.

- The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!

- In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Material Study", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:

There are many materials that can pose a real drawing challenge. Choose an interesting material, or an object of this certain material, and do a study. Any kind of metal, wood glass, fabric, paper, plastics, organic materials, fluids, will do. There should be plenty of opportunities lying around! The focus of this study is to figure out how to accurately portray this material. Consider the form, reflectivity, whether light can shine through it, and so on.

Here's (http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm) an excellent tutorial by Prometheus|ANJ that could help you out.

As always- reference advised, not obligatory. Colour, medium, time frame, any specifics are up to you! Good luck and have fun! And feel free to ask questions!

50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.

Criticizing each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference images and resources!! Let's help each other get better!

Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!

A continuation of the mouths last week. I worked on the unfinished ones a bit and drew more of that pretty black girl. Some new ones as well.

There will be more faces, kitties, arms and naked chicks galore in the near future I hope.
And fabric folds, they're lovely and damn hard at the same time :(

I so totally not :( I barely draw and just copy. Sometimes I do it better, sometimes worse:

This one wasn't finished last time. It's still not quite finished but it started to get worse so I stopped:

I know I promised gals... I'll draw them later.

EDIT:
Eh I couldn't do as much as I wanted... Whatever.
My usual crappy pencil bunch:

This week I wanted to figure out the minimum number of lines it took to believably outline different parts of the human form. So I did some data collection and then tried out my findings on a couple sketches.

Not much time for drawing right now, but hopefully this study will be helpful (maybe to more than just me!).

The average believable line numbers, if you're interested:
head (not including details of the face): 11
neck: 2
torso: 4
upper arm.shoulder: 6
lower arm: 4
wrist/hand: big
hips: 3
upper legs: 4
lower legs: 4
feet: 4

shiNIN-- Beautiful studies, does it feel like your learning a lot with them? I know you say your copying, but I'm seeing improvement in that. The silk is very beautiful!

Sushy-- Every little bit helps. Beautiful hair! The face on the right side of the right model is getting a little tilted, and the nose is a bit confused.

Another attempt at oil pastels. I think they're better than past oil pastel rendering I've done.

I've been missing in action for awhile. Managed to go for a figure drawing session at Tisch School of the Arts Asia, Singapore.
The model was great at posing. The first two hrs was nude and the last hour was customed.

A 15 min pose first,

The rest consists of 2, 5 and 10 min poses.

zy.: I hope I learn something through these... There's always a big difference from the first and last ones because I need warming up... And while copying, I try to analyze and figure out things but human figures are very difficult, the "copy" feel is the strongest when I draw them :( I study anatomy too but still... I still don't have much idea how to draw human bodies :( I guess I need to draw much more per day...
Your approach this week is interesting, I'll definitely take a closer look at your stuff tomorrow, now it's very late.
