calling all london based concept artists/illustrators/animators
a (subscription) life drawing class geared towards concept artists/illustrators/animators is under consideration at the london atelier of representational art (http://www.drawpaintsculpt.com/), the first of its kind in london that i'm aware of.
it would probably be once a week in the evenings, on a pay-for-a-set-amount-of-weeks basis. im rooting around to see if theres any interest, and what people would want from something like this.
there'd be input on what kinds of models/costumes/props/poses/lighting conditions we'd have. also possibility of hiring the model for reference photo shoots. any other suggestions also welcome (and strongly encouraged because i want this to be as useful to you as possible). let me know if you're interested, as there would be limited spaces, and please pass this message on to anybody else who might be interested

The police have been contacted, and the painting has been taken, pending furhter investigation. The insurance paid in 2004 was 3.000.000 SEK, about 273 515.49 GBP!

anybody here good with computers? like, really good? makes thier own builds and stuff? cos i want to get into digital painting but i need better specs, but im not sure whether to upgrade my pc or buy a whole new one . anyone who could talk me thru it or put me in touch with someone who can gets a big kiss kiss
I did once, long time ago, when 10gb was huge for a hard drive...
All I know is, if your gona build one yourself, a fast, hardcore processor and graphics card is a must, and plenty of memory for handling programs like PS and Painter. A motherboard with space for upgrading these things is a good idea....
Otherwise, get yourself a decent shop-made desktop or laptop with these things. (Or build one online? PC world do this) I went for processor and graphics card specifically, not too bothered about HD size, as long as it wasnt stupid-small.
I have an Acer laptop, I went for this as it had the same spec as well known brands, but met my budget... Do some research first yourself, ask around (as you have done already) or email folks you know may have decent PC/Laptops for advice.... (FB Chee, if you got him as a friend, I bet he's well tech savvie!)
A post in here may get missed with all these meets!!!!!!
Goodluck mate!

cheers tekura
i decided i could get away with just upgrading my current specs,
go from 1 to 4gb ram and get an external hd, better monitor and a new tablet. should be all i need to get a portfolio together over the next year. any recommendations for good cheapish monitors, around 22", or hard drives, appreciated. looking at western digital mybook 1tb,mainly to store music and videos, but i know those things are built for backing up, would it make more sense to get another internal if the access is quicker...

Hi all, I am new to the site and a bit late on this thread lol.
I hail from Porthcawl near Swansea in South wales. I am about to embark on a mission to improve my digital artistic skills using Painter and an Intuos 4 (my first tablet) for the very first time. I sketch with pencil but have never painted. I have used PS and 3dsmax in the past but want to start making more pure and expresive art from scratch such as sketching and painting in painter.
I look forward to making new friends on this site.
Peace, Love and Respect to you all

Hi all,
I just wanted to post a little ad for the life drawing sessions I've started attending every thursday.
It's called the Crouch End Life Drawing Group, running from 8 -10:30pm and is only £5. It's held in a quaint 70s decor house with easels and drawing board mounted chairs, starting with 5min poses moving on to half hour and hour long poses.
It's been running for about 25years, by a lovely old man called Basil and due to dwindling numbers he's considering closing shop. To gather support I decided to post here for anyone in London who goes lifedrawing. It's cheaper than the one at Candid Arts, it's less busy and a longer session, but not taught.
I'm going every week now, since it's excellent value and I live really nearby, but I definitely recommend it. He occasionally runs all day Saturday life painting sessions from 10-5 for only £10, but only to those who come to the thursday sessions.
For anyone who's interested, it's at 30 Roseberry Gardens, Crouch End N8 8SH. You can get there pretty easily by bus 91 from Central, and buses from Archway or Finsbury park tube. If you have any questions just pm me :)
Hope to see some of you there!

Hey guys, a few buddies of mine are looking to rent a room in London, they can go up pretty high depending on where it is, They are available to move in right now, and for about 3 months, but shorter periods would be ok too. They are both graphic designers/interactive art directors that are working at trendy advertising agencies in the city, so who knows, it might generate some good contacts if you are an illustrator looking for work.
They are coming with basically 2 suitcases, so its not a big move-in or anything. PM me if it sounds interesting!

Wow, what a lineup. That might be enough to get my butt on a train.
Paintings of that movement and era went so deeply out of fashion for so long, most museums hid their collections in the basement until very recently. I only ever caught the occasional example hung by the payphone or next to the public toilets.

Hi Koto and all - I'm can't make anything this week or next, but should hopefully be back on track for friday V&A sessions in May.
XA_Coma - if you do a "search this thread" at the top of this page for "ireland" there are a few other posters, but they are all "way back when". You might try PM'ing them, see if any of them are still around.
While I'm sure you are welcome here, and the threads for the whole UK, I wonder if, in practice, it might be more productive (in terms of finding more people to meet up with, locally) to start a separate thread for NI/Ireland?

Hey all!
I'm starting my new job in London on June 13th, only found out on Saturday! So I have less than a month to find somewhere to Live!
I'll be working right by Borough tube station ( one stop south of London bridge on the northern line) and i'm looking for a place to rent. I'd like a double room , central or close to a tube stop, and I have a budget of up to around £720 including bills a month, if you or anyone know know has a room for rent in London then please send me a PM!
Thanks!

Hello, please can somebody write a clear update on what goes on in London? I glean from the posts since mid-March that there's a coupla regular meets every Friday, afternoons at the V&A and evenings in the "malls"? What are your times and meeting places, and how do members recognise each other?
Thanks for any help!

Hi Emerald,
Usually there are two kinds of meets:
Life drawing at the Mall Galleries (http://www.mallgalleries.org.uk/) on Fridays. The gallery is here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=51.506412,-0.129336&spn=0.001803,0.002897&t=h&z=18&lci=transit_comp) and life drawing starts at about 5:30 PM.
Sketchmeets around London on Saturdays.
The sketchmeets are usually organised by Vatsel, who's abroad right now. They usually consist of meeting at a cafe or museum, drawing, going to other museums, getting food and general bad-assery.

Hi guys! Nice to come across this thread. I have a couple of questions for the other Brits here.
1) Are there ever any CA meets in the north of England? (flipping quickly through here, I've seen some mentioned in London, but I'm about as far from London as you can get without being in Scotland).
2) Do any of you know of any workshops anywhere in the UK in the field of concept art/illustration, either in digital or traditional media? There seem to be plenty of these in the US run by industry professionals but I'm having trouble finding anything similar here, and I'd love to spend a few days with someone who is actually an active concept artist or illustrator in the fantasy/sci-fi/the-kind-of-stuff-on-CA genre.
Cheers!
