Hello!

Hope everyone had a great christmasy solsticey midwinter style festival - I feel about a million times better now the days are getting lighter again :-p

Welcome Plantman - Im trying to teach myself how to model in 3D having just done a degree in traditional style 3d stuff so I may well have about a gazillion questions for you in the near future ;)

Stoat - did you find a supplier yet? if not maybe http://www.londongraphics.co.uk/ (http://www.londongraphics.co.uk/) can help? I tend to buy materials in person rather than online though so dont know if they are any good as an online supplier.

Hope everyone is all ready for the now imminent approach of 2009 :-o

Since the meet up has given up El Paso, not every place is as easy to get to, especially in this cold weather. How crowded does the candid art life drawing get? And does anyone know (or possibly ask) if I can bring my son (13) to it? He’s not bad, just that’s he’s only posting zombies here. Then it would be easy for you all to spot me as the fat old bird with a kid in tow.

I was worried about trying to spot internet people too initially, but you really shouldn't worry (Introduce yourself to Dave - he's pretty hard to miss what with being so tall and all! I tried it and it worked pretty damn well for me ;) of course, I might have to kick your ass if you try to get to know him QUITE as well as I do now though... :upset:)

Out of interest, is that the 3D Software course at LCC you're doing on Monday evenings?

~^-^~

ooh P.S.

If anyones IS up for lifedrawing on wednesday evenings that would be cool because I can make it up to London on Wednesdays/Thursdays - providing I can find somewhere to stay Wednesday nights of course :) Was meant to be doing a 3D modeling course at UH on Thursday Evenings from Feb 9th but they are not sure if they will run it due to a current lack of interest - so if anyone's interested let me know and we can press gang them into doing it! lol (no. really - It sounds like a good course, it sucks if they won't run it, I was really up for it! :( )

Black Spot I asked about bringing your son. She did seem surprised that someone would have done life drawing as young as 13 and said that normally she would expect to start at 15/16 years, but having said that, she was very nice and friendly and said that it comes down to how mature the individual is so, if he's done life drawing before and he's with his mum, she doesn't think there should be a problem with you taking him. Ultimately, if you think he's ok to go then it should be fine.
Hope that helps :)

Atastrophea I definately plan to go again next wednesday night so that'd be cool. The first class of the evening course at LCC was good. Very basic starting point on using the software but I'd learnt alot by the end of the session. I'll let you know how it progresses, if this one is good then I'm hoping to do the 3d Animation short course in the Summer term if I can.

Yup i agree- we need to be a bit more conclusive with the date for the london meet and help Naomi out!
21st Feb
is the proposed date

I need to sort cover at my job at laser quest, it should be fine, but im sure a lot of people would need to find cover as well, can we say for definate the 21st? If so then it would be a lot cheaper to start booking tickets

How about if you agreewith the 21st, thank this post or something, then everyone who can make it on that date will have their names underneath this post, like signing it sort of thing?
If not can anyone suggest any other dates?

Good to see you all last night, hope we can keep the Nando's nice and regular this year.

21st sounds good to me-many thanks to Naomi for sorting it out. I'm gonna put in another Huntarian vote, but I'm good wherever we go.

I'll write up a proper notice when I have more time - have to head out now.

See you all! xxx

If you can make the meet then 'Thank' mine or Fran's post so I can write up a list to see how the turn out will be. Cheers~

Saturday 21st February 2009, 11AM onwards.
Location: The Hunterian Museum. *Click here to view map* (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=Wcc&resnum=0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Hunterian+Museum,+London&fb=1&split=1&gl=uk&cid=0,0,15504259200409369776&sa=X&oi=local_result&resnum=1&ct=image)

I woke up this morning in South London and there's like 6-8 inches of snow on the ground! No trains, buses, taxis... only the tube is running. It's like a winter wonderland out there.

At anyrate, Molly: In that case yes I'm most definitely interested as I've been wanting to get a studio for a while. I don't anticipate moving til later in the year if at all and I can give a couple months notice if I do. I'll pm you my mobile #. Cheers.

Ken S, i wouldnt worry, if you take a look at the start of my sketchbook and see how bad i was in comparison to how much ive improved now, that was when i started going to meets, no one judges, in fact its a big help having people to help, its as much about socialising as drawing, i end up socialising more if im honest!

- sketch, socialise, learn, eat drink and be merry. hunterian museum is known for a collection of weird deformed skulls and foetuses in jars
- no, the meetings vary in location, most commonly in london but have been in cardiff, bristol, etc etc....
- mixed bag. but we havent had one in a while so we can expect a few people, rough list of attendees on facebook
- as above. its socializing and drawing usually
- social group- anyones invited. some of us have known eachother for years, others only appeared recently.

Subway sketching would be fun although you'd probably have to do it at a train station instead of the underground... also you'd have to be mindful of being confused with terrorists:S

Mind if we check out this shop after the museum or something?

You don't have to - I could always pop there and meet you guys later. Just that I had a bookbinding workshop today and am now inspired to buy some tools so I can make more at home. :)

Indeed, it was a fun if intense day of drawing :) It was great to chat to people understand the unique pleasures, and pains of freelancing, art etc.

I want to say a sincere thanks to Ben Neill (and girlfriend> sorry I didnt get your name!!!) and Alex and MTompkins.

After the pub I went back and drew some twisted calf feotus skeleton and met a very sassy Spanish textiles student who was apparently there on her own initiative. I then photgraphed the entire museum.

A great day out of my cage and hope to spend some quality time with more of you soon. :)

Tommorow, we will be spending a good portion of the day doing research/sketching and drawing at the V&A, Natural History museum and Science museum. Feel free to join in if you wish.

However, the area around the Natural History museum may be a bit more busy than normal due to London fashion week. be warned!

Hey peeps.

Really sorry for being so unsociable on Saturday - I was the bearded guy who sat sketching the 'Irish Giant' and 'Mr jeffs' for a couple of hours, only speaking briefly to a couple of people (nice to meet you Blackspot, Quicksilver, erm... David and... arh!), then had to leave before lunch.

Here's the sketch from Saturday at the Hunterian. 7'7" Charles Byrne and the peculiarly deformed Mr Jeffs.

The other sketches are from the V&A, done on Sunday and the thursday before last respectively.

Hey everyone just like to say great to meet you all last sat! Was good fun! Motivated now to get out, sketch more, see more crazy museums and check out forbidden planet (I think that's what is was called) Does anyone have directions to it by the way?

Also what days do you guys go to the candid arts life drawing generally?

Cool sketches mark! and plantman those are awesome environments! (are they 3d max and with painting? just painting or just 3d max?)

MarkDN

Alex - probably the easiest way to get to forbidden planet is to go to Covent Garden and head straight up Neal St. Once you reach the end of the road you should see it directly in front of you, on the other side of Shaftsbury Avenue. Alternatively, Totenham Court Road is slightly closer but, unless you know London, a bit more complicated to navigate from.

Molly
February 26th, 2009, 02:54 PM
If anyone is in London check out the Grant Museum of Zoology in UCL. (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/museums/zoology/) MarkDN and I spent the afternoon there, its pretty cool.

Its amazing! Its like the Hunterian, but much smaller, and you can have physical access to specimens. I drew a Warthog skull today and was able to get it out of the cabinet and touch it. They have hippopotumus skulls, rhino skeletons, full monkey & gorilla skeletons, and lots of dead things in jars! Only thing, its not a great place for a Meet, too small - but very intimate...
