:D thankyou for the kind words! Indeed it is an amazing place, and the first time I have been there...but most certainly will not be the last! Iv just realised again that i prob saw/bumped-into you on Friday but have no idea what you look like! :P
Whilst on the subject (well not at all really...) if anyone knows of any work going please let me know! I lost my last concept job because the company went into voluntary insolvency :( ...I just thought there is no harm in asking...and you mentioned Sketchling, who also may likely know of any work?

I didn't check back before heading to the place..did anyone else end up rocking up saturday?....we almost didn't get let in as we turned-up fasionably late (your not usually allowed in after 12 apparently:S), but was worth the begging and cajoling of the doorman/woman.....extremely cool place, awsome art and sweet live ska....I'm so glad to have discovered it, I shall also be returning:)

Yeah I went around 10 but was gone before 12. I had good time as well and the space was great. Jread, I was standing in front of your artwork for sometime before I even noticed it was yours. I definitely dug it, especially the deep sea market, that was my fav.
I was a bit amazed by the crowd, I was expecting a bunch of arty male types but found it to be mostly women with a large majority of people quite dressed up... also there was quite a large turn out of people, enough to fill such a massive place. I'll have to keep my eye out for future events.

For anyone who may be interested, the London Festival or Architecture is going on this month and part of last. Of particular note is this exhibition: http://www.lfa2008.org/event.php?id=32&name=Flooded+London It's a gallery of conceptual artwork showing what London may be like when the Thames floods. Pretty cool idea I think, may be worth a go to do our own designs?

Darylynn: Heeeeey, long time no see! Glad to see you're still around. It'll be great to meet you in person :)
Franbo: Cool photos~ Glad you two got back safely.
Tekura: Aaah k that's a shame, maybe some other time then. Hope you have a great birthday party! I'm sure you'll cope with the singing after a few drinks ;P
Lawrence: Ouch, sorry to hear that, mate. I'm still looking for a job too xD There's hardly anything going here....
Christian: Nope, can't make it to NZ. I'm struggling enough to get money just to pay off studenty things atm :/ Glad I've got a big overdraft!

Also, who knows their way around the place?? 'Cause I sure as hell don't!
Bones Weep Tedium: Sure! Like Jim said, just show up and look for a bunch of people with sketchbooks (unless you're the first to arrive, then just hope someone recognises you and joins in, hah)

If anyones staying until Sunday and is interested in meeting up I'll hopefully be back from London by then?

Ello all! As some of ya may know, im heading to sunnier cities in a couple of months... as a result, I have a few books that need new homes.. have a look at these photos and gimme a shout if anyone wants any of them. The expose, oddworld and concept design books are going for 20quid, the rest are 10 for hardcover, 5 for soft cover. I have to recover enough so I can afford to sent the rest of my collection (10+ of my favs) to sydney! :D
If anyone is going to the oxford meet I can bring them to that. Otherwise I guess I can send them, but I have no idea what that costs. I live in london central, baker street, so collecting would be ideal! :D Can make a plan either way. Just PM me first come first serve. :) K
(apologies to admins for doing sales, but since these are art-books and id rather them go to local uk ppl I hope thats ok!)

rightho try and post before about 12pm because i imagine i'll give them a ring around then
I'm not sure how its gonna work, if i can make a group booking on the phone if they will take just a non refundable deposit and pay the rest when we get there each, or if i would have to pay all in one go, if so those of you that can would you send the money online if possible either paypal or via bank transaction because if im booking like 7 places i cant afford that in one go,if not its no big problem, just get the money on the day.
I'll just have to see what they can offer
Perhaps i can sort of make a tab, like where if people applied directly themselves, and ask to go into the same room

First email address the hostel gave me didnt work, so i tried something else on the hostelbookers website- they said it would take 24 hours to get back in touch its been nearly 2 days over that, so i rang the hostel up again and theyve given me a new email address- so i've given that one a try and i asked how it would have to be paid for- i said would it be possible to pay a deposit then pay the rest on arrival ( worth a try), because if its a pay it all now type of scenario then thats a lot for me to have to pay, hopefully itll be sorted though

Mogster- you've still not let me know whether or not you want a bed- i dont want to be mean but it's taken me ages to get this far they took ages to reply, and the offer is only open until the end of today- and i would really like to just book it without having to go through the hassle again. As soon as ive made the booking, im sure the hostel will be notified right away- if you do actually want a bed im sure you can ring the hostel and tell them theres a room of 8 people and you would like to book into that room for the 2nd of august ( theres 14 beds so im sure there will be space)

Hostel people-
Guys im really sorry i just had a call from the people i made the booking with for oxford backpackers hostel- they just told me they dont have the space
:| wtf?
Guy just said they had a mistake with their availability and had no room in the first place when the booking was made- not even room for one person- so theyre gonna refund what i already paid for it.
Not only that they said theres slim chance of finding alternative accomodation for us- Theyre basically waiting on cancellations, and told me to keep looking for us all as well.
Why the hell did they take the booking in the first place- if they dont get us into anywhere else im really gonna make a complaint to the company- its rediculous :@
Im sorry guys to those who said they want a space- I am gonna keep looking- hopefully i will come up with some alternative accomodation for us- As time is running out it would be a great help if you guys have a little spare time- to help look for somewhere for us to stay
Party of 8- Sat 2nd August
sorry about this guys
lefran
July 21st, 2008, 10:41 AM
possible solution- rang up the hostel directly- they told me it wasnt their issue the fault lay with the company who i booked through, and as it stands they do have 8 beds in a 18 bed dorm
it would be £18 each and id have to pay 50% of the entire cost on booking then the other 50% 7 days before arrival
ill have to see what i can do , ill try and work it out for us though
lefran
July 21st, 2008, 04:05 PM
Yup this seems to be the best option- and only 40p more than original booking, nowhere else has enough rooms for us all
if possible can you guys staying send me the money as soon as you can- if you want my bank details PM or email me, or if you would rather make a paypal payment then send it to lefran@hotmail.co.uk, but i would rather a bank transaction as i will be charged a % of the payment n paypal to accept it- if you pay me £18 itll probably cost me £4 to accept it, and therefore i will be paying more than everyone else- if its your only option then ok, or if you want my address to send a cheque or send a postal order or whatever, pm or email me also
Jon and I are splitting the 50% booking cost now so as soon as you guys can send the money - the less chance of my car running out of petrol :P lol
Thanks

the reception is open until 11:30 so we have up until then to check in- please bring your passport for ID-if you dont have one a driving license?
This means that once we have checked in we have 24 hour access with swipe cards - so perhaps it would be a good idea to get it out of the way sooner rather than later, especially if theres involvement of alcohol lol
I dont think it will just take long- think we just show our id and sign a thing to say we wont destroy the hostel lol

Don't worry, it's my fault for not being able to locate the bus stop.
Although I did succeed in reading the timetable, which I think we can all agree is pretty skillful.
Loved the museum, I'm going to have to go back some time when I'm not running on sugar and caffine :)

Aph is so dreamy. But who's that guy with the curly hair? He looks like he's had too much cider!
Good to see you kids are meeting up more often again. Seemed like a year or so of nothing for a bit there - funny how it got easier to organise all of a sudden eh?
So Kim hit me up, I'm gonna be in Sydney in November (my bday actually) and i dunno if that's where you're gonna be at? Wasn't Adelaide was it?

Haha, tell me about it :P Really glad this one worked out, and it was great to see everyone again and make new friends. I had soooo much fun and hope it won't be too long before we all get to meet up again :)
Dan mentioned a Christmas-themed meet where we all draw in eachothers SBs as a present? I think that's quite sweet. Anyone up for that?
Kim, thanks so much for that book and for letting me sponge more out of your brain before you depart. We're gonna miss you!! ;o; Keep in contact, yeah?
Fran: Mind posting those pics in the Oxford Meet page on FaceBook, please? Would be nice to keep everything together to look back on in future if anyone wanted to do that :) Cheers~

Hello lovely people! :overhere:
Had a great time in Oxford - such a refreshing change to meet people in the flesh and see real genuine hand-touched artwork!
The museum was overwhelmingly brilliant - really couldn't do it justice in the couple of hours we were there.
I felt like I was lurking in the background a lot, but hey - it was my first time and I didn't really know what to do with myself!
Cheers to those who organised it all - your efforts are greatly appreciated!
So... when's the next one?! :cheerleader:

The christmas thingy was as such, Christmas Secret Santa!
.. anyone that wants to join in can and then we put names in a hat and pair people up secretly to give an arty christmas gift to each other, which can be pm'ed/posted in to their sb on CA!
That way we could do it without a meet if necessary. Its a way off but I guess we want a couple months notice considering how busy/lazy we are haha.

There are loads of Londoners on CA so you guys can set up local meets or something? Large meets can be tricky to organise as it depends when most people are free and well funded enough to make it :P Though sometimes they can be pushed forward from having people visit from abroad (like Steph Laberis, Noe and TheGnoll previously). I think one in the Winter might be doable....Sometime between October - December? Money is almost non-existent for me and a few others so let's not be too demanding!!

Just to let everyone know - there is a massive Klimt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klimt) exhibition on at Tate Liverpool (http://www.tate.org.uk/liverpool/exhibitions/gustavklimt/) at the moment. It is, according to the Tate, the first comprehensive exhibition of his work in the UK - so I imagine it is worth a look! If you like paintings smothered in gold and nude ladies. It's on until the end of the month.
ALSO: I don't know if anyone else reads boingboing or if this has been posted anywhere else already, but there is a series of video interviews with Syd Mead that are required viewing - this (http://tv.boingboing.net/2008/07/23/joel-johnson-intervi-2.html) one is all about his concept work on Blade Runner.
