Actually scrap that last post, I just remembered I have a dentist's appointment 9th and 11th. So I can't do 10th either, I'll be in too much pain and eating ice cream all day.
I guess it'll have to be this Saturday or Sunday. Sunday would be better. And I can't stay all day, have loads of work to do.

Ben, Looks like I won't even be able to meet on the weekend, so I think afternoon/evening on 8th is my only day I'm available : [ Talk about bad timing.

Guys, the only way meets happen is if someone sticks a stake in the ground and tries to organise around it. Hate to say it, but it's not really a vote. Good luck to you :)

I found a flat today, and it's one block from the Haight, which is frickin amazing - big famous artistic community, I'm super stoked.

Second round of Manley tutored life drawing today, which was cool. We're all staring at the cliff face now..

I hope you guys are interested in this, I really do.

I have no date set up, no venue actually arranged and no funding, so we're off to a good start.

Basically how many of you have art that you really want to show off? Maybe get noticed or recognised, or just say 'look at me, I can draw!'
My plan is to try and find or rent some space in a city, most likely London[?], where this can be done.

The chances are very strong that this'll be through such an organisation as the Jerwood Space, so we'd have to pay. I've tried looking into what the Corporation of London has to offer, but I'm a failure. The problem with the Jerwood Space is that it's South of the river (where no one dares venture) and inside. Idealy I think something outside, when it's nice and sunny [yeah... right] would be, well, ideal. Though beggars can't be choosers, though I'm going to continue to look into it.

Basically if you'd be interested in a possible showcasing, which to be honest could well result in money flowing (possibly liberally) from your own pocket then could you please PM me? Hopefully many of you'll be interested in it, and if you can think of alternative venues or ideas please tell me, any help on this would be appreciated.

If you think another city will do if you tell me I'll look into what it has to offer; save you the trouble basically.

(Oh, how rude of me, 'grats, Fran.)

Molly
January 20th, 2007, 01:13 PM
Rhynome,

My school is right next door to the Jerwood space, and its got a very good rep for shows; Phil Hale has shown work there; and South of the River aint THAT bad -so maybe a good place after all?

I'm up for showing work; mainly large drawings in charcoal (NOT life studies) so ya, I'm interested...

Whatever you guys might want to show people. It may be photographs (in the case of Samsite, me [when I start getting the photos properly sorted that is] et al) Charcoal drawings (Molly), whatever you have.
Preferably something physical, maybe even that can be taken away. Preferably nothing controversial or offensive (at first at least) I don't want to be told to bugger off and never come back again.

Why am I doing it? Why not? basically. You joined this forum for whatever reason, though most likely to improve and maybe to show people what you can do - to share what's inside your mind?
Well, hopefully if this gets taken out to a larger group of people, not just those of this forum, then you'll be able to reach more people and maybe one or two people might actually get something out of it; maybe even a job in the future?

There's no doubt in my mind that the first showcasing will mean a loss of money for all involved, but you never know what chances might come along.

In short:
I'm looking to show whatever everyone has to offer.
I'm looking to show this as it might just be nice or maybe it could open some things up for you.
It'd also mean that maybe you'll be able to look at each other's art in person and maybe comment on it. After all, in person it's far easier to communicate ideas.

By the way, call me Robert, it's much easier. And Danny, why only an observer's standpoint?

(Anyway, you guys seem to churn out some pretty great stuff; so why not show it off?)

That's a bit ahead. I need to even find venues that'll love us first.

But if you can start giving me the names of dates when you're free, maybe even into summer next year? Then I'll start poking people for information.

For the meet? No idea yet. And that's not exactly promising for my ideas of a showcasing either is it?

hello,

I've got the all clear from my missus to have a midweek (Monday to Friday) birthday club night, but am totally out of the loop (to the tune of about 10 years). I haven't the faintest idea where to go for indie/90's 00's alternative/nu-metal in London. My Guildford chums don't venture out this far y'see. Time Out's not too helpful with their reviews.

I know Camden's wicked on a Saturday, but I prob won't be able to make that night. Its not till early/mid April, but get your thinking caps on, and let me know if anything unmissably dancetacular springs to mind. ;)

Sorry Pudding, can't help you there.

I have some questions when it comes to the exhibition that some of you may be interested in.
1. If possibly could you please put some art forwards for a communal portfolio which I may be able to show to organisations to say 'look, this is the sort of thing they do.' It would only need to be a piece or two from 3 or 4 people. I'll probably add that Gherkin photo in my avatar.

2. Would you be willing to exhibit in the boroughs of London instead? The slightly more drab ones. Now hopefully it'd be a last resort (as it would be nice to show closer to the City or Westminster, in the case of London), but it may mean that we get more sympathy when it comes to a willingness to strut our funky stuff. Basically we'd be there to liven the place up for a day or so.

I have some more questions, but I'll leave them for another time when I've nagged people more.
I'm also waiting on a couple of e-mails, so there may be updates coming along.

Cheers,
Robert.

Sounds like a cool idea, similar to what were trying to do down our neck of the woods. Venues are all important and it helps if you've got a rep so whoever is organizing this needs to be fairly established. Were looking at setting up an art and design centre, and hopefully a digital illustration/visualization department for clients. Still looking at locations(country wide), but we have the financial backing so thats half the battle won. Would be a permanent venue that would also serve as an exhibition space for contemporary figurative and concept based work.

koshime
January 22nd, 2007, 10:24 AM
I really like the idea of setting up an art /design centre - that perhaps may also function as a alliance of artist/jobs for pre visualization/concepts

That would be one of my ideal dreams *hehe*

Alcian

Robert - at the mo im near london, just 30mins on the train :P. Next time I go I'll take some time out from the shopping so I can have a proper go at that shot you suggested. Have you been to London City Hall?

Rhynome
January 22nd, 2007, 01:59 PM
Hybridstar, that sounds fantastic. I hope it works out for you.

I don't really have any connections, at all, but I'm sure I could still nag people. I mean, connections have to be made somewhere, no? If I get just one out of this I'll be very, very happy.

Well, it's time for the update! I got an e-mail back from the Jerwood centre, but they gave me rehearsal space pricing, not exhibition pricing...

'subsidies may be available to young & emerging artists and rates
will be tailored to the scale of the project and its funding - more information below' - Jerwood. I hope that applies to exhibition rates as well...
Maybe they have some special reason for offering a rehearsal room? I hope so, then the e-mail would again be worth it...

I'll try and get the exhibition rates again.

Also I'm going to ask whether we can use the CA.org name when it comes to the exhibition.

Alcian, I've seen, but never been near London City Hall; gives me a dirty feeling.

Molly
January 24th, 2007, 08:28 AM
SummerPud - I'll get me thinking cap on for ya, a 'back-to-90s' nite sounds awesome!:)

Rhynome - The Jerwood is also a dance studio; looks like they didnt hear ya right when ya said 'exhibition space' hhmmm a bit slack of 'em.....lemme ask round my school for going about getting an exhibition there...

If people are serious about an exhibit, then make sure its something recent you have worked on; is of your best quality, framed and presented well. If theres enough of us, we can put on a good group show;
Rhynome and UK peeps:
-how would we 'show' ourselves?
-should we have a theme? OR just base it on the fact we are a group from CA.org?
-Are we a new kinda conceptual sci-fi/fantasy movement? should we show our characters, environments, vehicles?....
-should we keep it in the Fine Art area, showing portraits, life drawings and such?....
-should it be a mix of mediums; paint, drawing, digital, photography?
-should we show 'conceptual illustration' or whatever you call it we do- as Fantasic Art? (Like Spectrum does for artists)

-creating our own group is the way to go, the institutionalised art world does not work all the time - a visiting tutor said this to me last week in discussions...

JUST THROWNG IT OUT THERE FOR DISCUSSION...
Mx

Rhynome
January 24th, 2007, 12:42 PM
I've been musing over much of these points myself.

I think a theme shouldn't really be in there, nor a group of media, etc. You should just put together what you want people to be able to see, what you're proud of and as long as it's not vulgar in any particular way then we'll show it.

The vulgar thing (that includes 'aggressive' expression of political orientations, I know... but...) is my personal limit on it, I don't want telling off.

Haven't be able to do much recently, sorry, but I shall do more in the coming days, probably Friday actually.

Molly et al, what do you say on the use of the conceptart.org name? Should we use it with permission or should we derive something else? The using something else is somewhat helpful as it would mean it would then be easier to research, blah blah blah. I mean, in the unlikely event that someone sees this and thinks, 'Oooh, I wonder if I can show some of my stuff with them?' then it's easier to say, 'Yeah, sure.' than 'Yeah, sure, now you know conceptart.org...'.
They might not necessarily want to join CA, or maybe they'd like to leave it for a bit, etc.

Cheers,
Robert.

- true, there could have different sections; Drawings(life, imaginative, conceptual) Traditional Paintings(nude, portraits, still life, conceptual) and Digital (concepts, illustrations etc)[I]

The vulgar thing (that includes political, I know... but...) is my personal limit on it, I don't want telling off.
[I] - maybe a 'vetting' of work to make sure its appropriate is a good idea?

Haven't be able to do much recently, sorry, but I shall do more in the coming days, probably Friday actually
- okey pokey

Molly, what do you say on the use of the conceptart.org name?
- well, if we DO go that way, then we'd best put on a damn good show, we can ask the powers that be about using the CA name, BUT then WE are committing ourselves to a more narrow 'theme';

Should we use it with permission (yes) or should we derive something else?
- we could call ourselves the 'UK Sketchgroup' conceptart.org?

The using something else is somewhat helpful as it would mean it would then be easier to research, blah blah blah. .-- agreed, least we end up solely promoting them than us...
I think we should get a solid, confirmed group of people, because gallery space may be an issue...

Yeah. I'd like to have names so basically I can have a minimum number.

But a problem is that people don't really want to say whether they can or can't until there are dates, and venues don't really want to say too much without numbers. So what I'm trying to do for now is find prices and dates that the venues may be able to host us then I'll say 'This is what we have, what are/n't you available for?' Though with other things to do it's proving a bit difficult right now.

My thought of the layout would be no specific sections, just people with what they have, and the viewers (if any turn up... advertising, I planned to mention that once this is more underway (not definate, but moving), but I'll just mention it now, who can design and get access to printed posters? Maybe Communist Stylee? I just love the design.)

I still have a few places to look and people to nag, so once I've started hitting more dead-ends and/or finding more opportunities then I'll step up the whole, 'Well are you coming or aren't you?' thing.

I also want as many people's views on this as possible; don't just go with it and see how it turns out, if you think I might be able to suggest something, anything, please say.

Pud - sorry I can't be there bro. Still means a lot that you and the Brave made it in from drab old Guildford for the evening before leaving. Have one for me, definitely.

Best of luck with the exhibit, guys. I kinda doubt that you'd get the go-ahead on the name thing, cause they're pretty particular about how things are presented. But I guess there's no harm in asking. The one thing I wouldn't do is use it without permission.

I think maybe you guys should look at the work before anything else. Think first and foremost about media and presentation. Digital work needs to be printed somehow, and it'd better be canvas or board. If you're serious about this, you need to be serious enough to actually do something whether the space is ready or not. You don't want a bunch of people who are going to say they're in, then not be ready when it comes, or just have no idea how to go about it.

Best of luck.

Oh, PS, I've started keeping a blog on ghey old myspace - http://www.myspace.com/dirty_christian. No photos yet, but soon.

not sure about the ca.org name either, 'cause even though its a collective of artists, its still under the title of conceptart.org so unless the show was all conceptarty then it kinda seems weird to me. Thats not what us lot are about, its where we all met but it doesnt really project us all as artists i dont think. cant think of any better examples tho heh.

anyway, it all sounds cool and if it moves foward then im pokin me head up in interest

blackerno1 - hey welcome to ca! When can we see some work?

How about Conceptual Illustration for the Masses

I think something a bit more open would be a good idea, I don't think that a lot of the work will be concept based tbh. But anyway it might be an idea if we move on to a more important bit of organisation than the name.

This is why artistic revolutions dont happen people faff about debating the colour of the banners and forget about it.

I should be going to florence so long as I can secure a place.

January 26th, 2007, 02:03 AM
Well, right now there's not all too much to talk about beyond the name, but as I said, if you want to mention anything, do so.

Friday, today is the day that I'm likely to make a bit more progress. I'm also still waiting on an e-mail or two, and so I'm entirely at the mercy of someone else.

Basically I want venues that might host us and at what time of year before I start telling everyone to fork out money for prints and the likes.

Sorry lefran for smothering your plea. So I'll post it again
give lefran the dates you're available for a possible meet
but I still don't know mine, fugger.

Anyhoo, cheers everyone,
Robert.

yeah im looking to going as my 18th present, which isnt till june but its round about that time right? so i need to start looking into details and come up with a good presentation of facts for my parents haha

as my my date for a meet haha, im free any day of the week (bah who needs college ;) ) and i could most likely make any weekend so long as i give enough notice in work, and ihave no music rehersals on

Am sooo gonna be late for college, lol.

If I somehow get enough money, then I should be able to go to Florence. Situations have changed slightly on my side. Sucky.

As for the exhib, sounds like a great idea - gotta whip up some presentable-enough work first though, haha. And I agree with Erinessesss, don't leave us trad people out ;(

Hey blackerno1, welcome to ca...

For a meet in the week it really depends on how much work I've got, but I should be free any weekend. I'm definately going to the italy workshop, hopefully the dates won't clash with anything, but right now i'm keeping the end of april/start of may free.

Rhynome, i'll wait and see what info you get on venues, pricing, dates etc... I'm interested though.

I'm free Feb 5th and 6th and might be meeting up with best man Sketchling at our ole nandos on Feb 8th, might be free Feb 10-11th

Just came back from 2 days of chinese feasting and poential drunkeness with Sketchling as best man for my chinese wedding reception (part 2 of 3) with the last one finsihing on Nov 2007 or jan 2008

It was great driving past stonehenge at night, surviving a 11 course chinese meal and countless family photographs and meeting new relatives that I embrace (13+ new cousins of 8 girls and 5 boys
and others who did not attend). My wifes relatives alone number 56 in one large family photo (for those who managed to attend)

Sketchling was finaly great as a wife prop, having been sober enough to help drag lisa out from the nightclub to the hotel in our stuporific states

So, a great thank you again to Skectchling and +1 (sharon).
You were great company and all round superb.
Congrats on the gig onto bigger and better things!

Field trips:

I'd like to organise a trip to the following locations during spring/summer

South England

1/ Isle of Avalon, Glastonbury

Tie in with glastonbury festival?

2/ Tintagel, Lands End (Cornwall)

For sheer atmosphere it is tough to beat Tintagel. The 13th century castle is a romantic ruin constructed on a windswept point of rock, with waves crashing all around. The castle is surrounded by Roman and Dark Ages remains, but more thoroughly surrounded by legends of King Arthur (http://www.britainexpress.com/History/King_Arthur.htm), who is said to have been born here. Alternate legends claim that Tintagel is the site of Camelot, Arthur's court, though that honour is also claimed by a dozen or so places throughout the British Isles!

3/ Project Eden, South Exeter (St Austell)
Accesible by Car, Train (from london, then a 45 walk through rugged industrial/countrside), Bus

I try to combine natural beauty, history and art potential with all the places i visit in UK. So any feedback or interest just holler up (otherwise I just tend to go solo anyways :)

North England

4/ Lindasfarne islands and abbey, Lindasfarne

Kim - nice one, mate. Soon you'll never wanna touch windows again. And awesome news on the shift - stay in film dude, you know it makes sense.

And Naomi, make sure you stay home as long as you can with that. I had it and it healed properly, but it often leads to Chronic Fatigue, which will basically stuff up your whole life. Don't think 'I need to go back to school' and feel guilty. Stay home for a good week after you're good and done. Trust me, it's worth it.

Glastonbury festival's totally inside the fence, Koshime, so there's not much point trying to tie anything in with it. About all you'll get is some irritated locals waiting for it all to end and the wasters to drive home again so they can sleep haha. Good luck sorting something out, though.

See ya!

Thought I'd drop a line in here out of desperation, I downloaded the painter x trial and im finding it really hard going. I just cant get my head around it. I'm so used to painting in photoshop and the engine jsut feels really different in painter.

I was wondering if anyone that uses painter could share a bit of working process explaining brushes and what they use for what. In ps i just use a the basic round to render with the occasional texture brush. in painter I have no clue and i find myself hashing about with different brushes with some not working on top of others and getting very confused.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

koshime
February 11th, 2007, 01:52 PM
ok - with painter. It takes a different approach to painting but becomes quite intuitive as long as you dont think of how to do things like photoshop. In general it has functional layer support but try to paint most things on canvas if you can.

The wealth of brushes can be overwhelming, and the first thing you need to do is DECIDe a range of brushes you want to use for 90% of your work.

Once you do that, then u paint as you feel. It has a lovely natural feel. i use painter and photoshop interchangably. Both are godo at specific things and overlap in certain areas

[void]
February 11th, 2007, 02:16 PM
I went through all the sketchbooks i know that use painter, searched for brushes and tryed all of them and im building a library out of the ones that i like.

im gonna see if I can make anything worthwhile now ^_^

I dont think i'll drop ps but more use them interchangably as you said, they both have features that i want to make use of so we'll see how it goes.

Hey ad. I found the best way to work with painter brushes is go through all of the preset brush types and find ones that kinda perform in a manner that you like or that better reproduce your traditional style. Use these as a base, open up the brush creator then tweat away. Bristle settings are particulalrly good for natural oil brushes. The well option is one that make a great deal of difference too but mostly i play with resaturation and bleed as i work with the sliders at the top. Then i just re-name the brushes to something like soft bristle, fine sable or whatever.

Have just downloaded the Painter 10 demo but havent really had a chance to play yet. The brushes look good though and it may be useful to try finishing a piece entirely with one brush type to fully explore it's limitations and benefits with the occaision bleed/resat tweak as you go.

Good luck dude, sure you'll get to grip with it pretty quick and start busting out some great paints.

Firstly, slightly surprised you didn't drop me a line about this! The things I used most of the time were a basic round tinting brush, which is the closest to the hard round in photoshop, one of the chalks (the square one i think), an oil pastel or two, the digital airbrush, and that's 90% of what I used.

Capturing brushes is basically the same deal as photoshop, so you can make shapes which you feel will help you steer away from your bad habits (I made some odd square-ish pointy shapes which went against my elliptical tendencies to help).

The big thing, of course, is paper. Just grab some random images off the web, they really help. The default ones just aren't that great.

Hybridstar
February 12th, 2007, 03:33 AM
Just though id pop this quick speedy up, unfinished and ive cropped off her legs. Was blocked in initially with a tweaked square chalk to establish values and approximate colors and then i used a tweaked varient of the captured bristle for the main. Some other useful brushes are: simple water(for glazing and underpainting), camelhair, palette knife, round gouache and blenders. Use em and play with em.

ooh i had a cool day today, was a runner backstage for the snooker championships, walking past the players having a cigarette ( wont let me type f a g for somereason, comes up with weird symbls?) round the back it a bit weird hehe but it was fun, lots of tea making and passing messages around, but i also got to see how everything works, the editing suites etc, aaaand they let me put the lights up when it went to the presenters segment :D going back tomorrow and sunday too

anyone see the thousands of posts about a meet? would people be free next week?

Yeah, that and a few other swear words get censored.

Yes, meet. IS ANYONE UP FOR ONE NEXT WEEK? (besides Chee and Adam. Cheers for noticing ^_^) I can't do Tuesday either, and have yet to find out what days I'll be working that week, if any.

Dunno if I can defo do a TD as I have a habit of pulling out. Don't wanna do that again...

Mr Man, I had a look at your sketchbook and thought your pirate ideas were nicely rendered. It is wonderful to see the pencil in use as it is one of the freehand tools I use.

I am only just starting to get to grips with using a computer to render art, but still enjoy using traditional media to make my work look more organic.

BTW are there any London folk who would like to take some Life drawing classes?....Void, Cartoon - this may help you guys.....

I'm putting together a class -hopefully start ASAP - which would take part on Saturdays from 1pm- 7pm. The costs will include studio hire for the day, heating and model hire. I am looking for at least 12 people willing to pay upfront and dedicated to taking part.
The 'course' will run for 4 weeks, if you want longer, like 10 weeks, then let me know, I wil draft up exact costs per person.

It will be untutored, but critiques can be given by fellow students if needs be.

A loose schedule will be made for the day so people will know what to expect, so gesture drawing will be covered and a long pose...

I want to encourage Drawing & Painting

I have organised this before, only to be let down by non-attendance and having to pay the model from my own pocket. If your sure you want to take part, then respond here or PM me...

Mollyx - wants more drawing!

Hey Molly, that sounds cool. I'd love to come down on an occaisional Saturday for a day of drawing and painting but i could'nt commit to the full term. I currently run one monthly Saturday workshop but will be adding another at the end of March.

I like to get in as much life drawing as i can outside of teaching but sometimes its tough so i'm chuffed if you get it sorted. Cant do Saturday the 24th of Feb or 17th of March but could make any other over the next few weeks. Let me know costs etc.:^^:

Sounds like it could be hardware related. I have a certain brand of router that is supposedly good but wigs out frequently!!! Best thing to try is a reset, unplug, and swap hardware if you can.Built in wireless, cant help. Otherwise you could check your firewall settings. I wanna plaaaay ;______; Has anyone ever played Vagrant Story (for the PS) ? The same artist worked on FFXII. Square-Enix switched their main concept designer, Nomura Tetsuya (FFVII-FFX-2?), to Akihiko Yoshida, which worked out pretty well as the previous games were looking a bit 'samey'. Still looks good though. Before Nomura there was Amano Yoshitaka, who still does the title art, I think.

Just waiting for my memory cards to arrive. You can buy new PS2 8MB memory cards from Amazon for £6.69 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0000541B4/ref=dp_olp_1/203-1279834-6288741) ^_^

...20 minutes from Nicky and the kids? ME!!! I'm celebrating this event I've been waiting 2 and a half years for, AND my 36th b'day in a style of sorts with a crawl through the pubs of Camden, followed by a trip to one of my favourite indie/alternative/raaawk/nu-metal haunts of yesteryear. I can't decide between Underworld (beneath the World's End pub), The Dome in Tuffnell Park (not sure if that's still a rawk night these days) or old faithful, The Scala in King's Cross.

There's also this new place I've been hearing good things about in Farringdon http://www.fluidfoundation.com/venueDetails.aspx?VenueID=3030. Its a bit swankier, pricier, and the dancefloor's pretty non existent, but don't it look purty? :)

there were about 5 people that loved chicken , but ate poor quality like kfc, or cheap supermarket chicken without realising why it was so cheap, they went on to his farm and learnt what happens by visiting battery freerange and organic chicken farms , had to learn to kill the chickens and cook them from scratch to appreciate it more

yeah it looks like I missed meeting you fellas by a whisker last year. In a few years I'll be living in the hostile, inaccessible Lancashire Archipelago. Before climate change kicks off big style, we really should hook up! :)

Does that mean we might actually get the kick up the arse to have that Manchester meet people keep murmuring about? (you southern folk seem to have far too much fun) i know Kian, Staz, Posh and Badger were all into the idea.....

Actually, i've got easter off for 3 weeks (well not off, i'm at home, i still have excessive work) 23rd march - 16th of april. Any weekend or time you guys are free for a manchester or similar meet? Kian almost had one sorted then my car radiator fell apart. Now that i have new wheels, i'm defo up for it!!
Jonny? Jon? Aly? people??

Fran: Cool~ It looks like fun. Is that Zoe at the front when you're all lined up on the stage? With her confused hedgehog t-shirt :) Bumped into her on the bus the morning the show was on. How did the Nationals go?

Haven't been around or caught up with anyone for quite a while now. What's up, people?? We still up for an Easter meet-up? Maybe we could paint eggs in the park (aawwwww....). :P

Are we also having a londony meet thing, Im starting to get a bit confused :S

You know ive just had an idea! "lil thunderbolt strikes rich's brain"
Why dont we arrange some kind of small 3 day holiday chill fest type event some time. A mini workshop if you will. It doesnt have to be till ages but maybe we could get some foreigners over? If we arrange it late in the year itll give people time to save up and prep? Its just a thought anyway.

Hello UK superlovers,

I have to tell you all about my fun visit to Lucas Arts last week! what a place, set in the Presidio park in San Francisco, at the southern end of the Golden Gate bridge, Lucas Arts is housed in an old refurbished hospital complex set in a gorgous Eucalyptus forest. the place is massive with game and film departments in adjacent buildings, walking round the place the first thing that struck me was the emphesis they put on concept art, i guess this should come as no suprise, but it was still quite a shock, and a pleasant one - to finaly see in the flesh, evidence of a large entertainment corporation that actually realises the importance of our trade!!!! it was almost a releif!!! every wall of every corridor, and most of the offices are loaded with huge A0 prints of current concept art from they're in-house team. so cool to see all that stuff!! truly great images too. elsewhere there were original matt paintings from famous movies and loads of movie props like that green ghost from ghost busters, complete with anamatronic robotic tech!! and one of the robotic diving suits from inner space as well as the actuall models of the converted shuttle from ....... not deep impact, the other one???? cant remember (eek) and the house from a series of unfortunate events - some dolls house that :) and........ i actually touched the real deal life size han in carbonite prop from empire/return *wilt* hehe. what a cool visit. also they wanted to hire me but i said nah :)

hawhaw.

Le Fran, nice moves hon, that looks like great fun :) btw this is a fellow welsh person, on a long sojourn to england. :)

Mol - did you check my site yet? www.leadinglightdesign.com (http://www.leadinglightdesign.com) since u asked and pete provided. my old site went under (the one in my link, which i need to change) when i foolishly let the domain name slip, it was bought by some blood sucker company in angola or somewhere and held hostage at an exorbitant price, but i recently found they too let it lapse when i refused to pay up, so i got it back for like 4 euros or something, yay!!!!!! only took 2 years waiting.

haha.

Pete, post the latest one of Wilbur Waitley, its awesome - S'pud is the king, is he not???? :)

laters all.

Brave

PS. (additional edit) Mol - Re; the BAFTA. yes! to give you the full story, Black & White (released 2001), my first game, actually won 2 BAFTAs 1 for best interactivity, and 1 for best moving image, i could hardly take credit for the interactivity one, but as i modelled most of the creatures in the game, plus loads of other work as a member of the 4 man art team i feel it's fair balls to claim to be a BAFTA winner.

I've got a queesy uneasiness about that Old Whateley pic. We both know about its dubious origins. Best to just regard that one as a misguided experiment in photo ref and move on. :)

Without meaning to buddyjock to lamely, you've got to post your badass Philip Reeve pics, and the other recent odds and ends that are gathering dust on your hard drive. They're not much use there are they?

Thanks for the congrats btw folks. Sorry for the hissy fit.

fran: congratulations, you're through to the next round.

>:{ - I got a written warning from my school today. Nah, i didnt get one, basically you get one free (actually covered by the nomination entry fee) then if you want more they cost about £500 each, at the time i felt that was a bit pricey for a paperweight.

Welcome Kainin, by the big tunnel...:)

Brave - £500? rarrr....I wonder what it would go for on ebay...:D

Koshime - haha - yeah, sounds well posh, eh?, its in Shorditch where all da art loveys are... they have a more intense life drawing course, plus lectures, and I'm hoping to get a bursary for the year, so fingers crossed...Shame about the Academy, I suppose my emotions are too much for that place to handle...you gotta be all spiritual, demure, and calm...fuck that.
My dads got a spare double room at his place, that I'm using as a studio, its spacious, warm and has tinternet. Once I'm settled with freelancing, Ima get me a proper studio to work in....lifes cool at the mo, the only way is up! Bay-bear!

Mr Man - Ha, yeh it was great to visit there, but ultimatly it's another office with people working - a very cool office, working on extremely cool stuff and situated in the best city in the US, if not the world, but you know, other than that just like the TSB building in Newport Gwent. :)

Kainin - welcome.

Mol - will you have to wear a uniform at your new school? ;p

.........and finally, in case anyone would like to see a few of my scribbles i just posted some in the FF section here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92456)

Just a note for all you Londoners.

Steph (Laberis) is coming to London to visit from 9th to 18th April. I wonna get a meet together for here with anyone who's in London and available at the time. Just the regualr evening at Nando's would do. It'll probably be sometime near the end of her visit, as I'm at home in Cardiff for Easter Sunday/Monday and a few days after.
