Cause that seems to have been the generic time all us non londoners have been forced to make it into central before :P
I dunno guys, depends how much of the day you want, and when y'all gotta leave.
Mum
Damn straight. Fran and I was up from 4am-1am last time. ¬_¬;;
I don't mind when we meet up as the station's pretty close to me anyway.

well what's the plan from the station? wanna decide the next port of call, badger? then, if nothing else, those arriving late can find directions there.

I think badger's plan was to go straight to the comic convention. i had a ganders at the website and from what i could see it's split accross two locations, the ramada hotel (which is apparently fully booked) and the brittish empire and commmonwealth museum thing which is literally right next door to temple meads train station (and down the road from me and badge).
He's at uni though. wonder what he plans.

right, well how about we work on the assumption that everyonewill go straight to the empire museum thing and everyone else can make their way there via mobile kommunikation?

Nice!! The only thing that's bugging me is that the water doesn't quite look like it's falling in the smaller waterfall. Any way of adding weight to it? Otherwise it's looking great. Good luck in the compo~

the water flowing out of the space ship is mixing with fuel...radioactive glowing stuff, once its better painted it will be clear that somethings mixin with the water in the lake... :D

i cant make the F%$KING meet!im pissed as feck!and not even in the good ole' had one too many way', in the pooeyer 'angry' way.
i get paid EMA £30 a week for, well basically for going to school (:dad: ive heard all the 'well thats not how they did it in my day' already, but come on i aint gonna turn it down if its offered me!) which i admit is one hell of a lazy way to get money, but ive come to be reilant on it, so ive purposely left my bank account alone for three weeks thinking ah well i'll have a nice tidy sum of £90 to get to bristol with, check my balance today and ive got the grand total of £2.52:$
unless sum angel flys out of my ass with a wad full of cash then im gonna have to skip the meet guys:(
i cant really express how angry i am in words right now so instead i'll headbutt the keyboard...

I'll be taking the 9.27am train to bristol from paddington.
i'm going to buy my f*cking ticket there, cause the sodding website (http://www.thetrainline.com) won't let me NOT accept a mail delivery. So I'm just gonna get them there, though it'll be more expensive.

erm there might be a slim chance that i can scrape together enough money if i get my EMA through today, if i do ive gotta take that train also, u mind if i tag along with u dirty C?after all a 3 hour train jounry to bristol wouldnt quite be complete without a rather over excited art student prodding through ur sketchbook, exclaiming every now and again 'oooo well that ones quite pretty isnt it?!'
i'll post later on today whether the moneys come through or not
EDIT: Oh and cheers Fran i chatted to them about it and they decided to introduce a new rule stating that if ur late more than twice a week then u dont get paid, only decided to keep it secret untill every1 was broke....yay!

ok so i can go but by the skin of my teeth, i'll have to go by coach as its cheaper and im gonna be sumwhat late, as im supposed to be dropped off at Marlborough St Bus Station at 10.30 and then from there i have to figure a way of getting to temple meads, and then figure out where u lot are, any of the bristol lot know if a bus runs to temple meads from where im getting dropped off?
cheers
james
May 12th, 2006, 06:08 PM
there's no need to catch a bus. it would take longer on a bus than it would to walk due to bristol's convoluted one way systems. its easy to get to temple meads from the bus station, but quite difficult to describe. if you ask at the bus station they can probs give you a mini map or something, or at least a more in depth route than i can be bothered to type. but its really easy man. dont worry about it.

The Pen & Paper has a great supply of Art stuff (it's the only damn place near me which does coloured lead for mech pencils) and as Eri said there are loads of funky clothes shops too. :) There's an Art gallery there too, though I've never actually been in there. Ooohh, and those cute little stores round it too which sells ranom and sometimes cute stuff.
But I mainly go there to buy Millie's Cookies. ^__^

Also, good luck to everyone in thunderdome!!!

If you guys wanna go for it, go ahead. I've just realised I can't make anything like that till the 8th of July - I have a huge project on this week and weekend, then I've got a full weekend after that (mate's bday, plus the Rugby Sevens at Twickenham) and then ME AND CARTOONFOX AND SPUDDING ARE GOING TO MONTREAL!!!
And then I'm in the states until the 25th. And then on the 1st, I'm moving flat.
So, yeah, I'd love to do it, and maybe stay at Eri's castle the night before, but if you guys wanna do it without me, then go ahead :'(

***ATTENTIOOOOOON***
Hey guys, if you're up for a trip to Snowdonia for the day, my sis's fiance said he could hire a minibus for 17 of us to hop on. Think it costs about £80-90 to hire it so if we could all chip in it'll be about £5.30 each. He wants to get back into drawing and wants to do some landscapes. :) There's bound to be some neutral meet up place or route to pick everyone up at.
Let me know what ya think~
Also, if anyone's going/cares, I'll be in London around 8am this Saturday for the Anime Con, and will be leaving around 9pm on Sunday.
The Cardiff meet seems to be a bit iffy atm. If anyone wants to go anyway for a small meet then wait for a bigger one when people are free/have money, then I'm cool with that. :D It's only 15 mins away from my by train.
WOOT, no college! Now to draw...

yeah would be fun! i suggested a place to naomi a while back called nantgwrtheyrn which is north wales, i know its not snowdonia, but i still think it would be a cool place to have a meet
- i stayed there on a welsh trip- its really beautiful, out of the way and secluded, really pretty landcape on the way there and when your there, its right by the sea, and to get there you have to go down a really steep hill on the side of a cliff with a hair pin bend :S but it was like £50 to stay there for....3 nights? which was awesome
it has like little houses in terraces which sleep from 4-8 people- i dont think its necessary for you to speak welsh? if not there are a few hostels in the area
heres a link to the website- http://nantgwrtheyrn.org/
aaand a few pics of the areas around there-
landscapes:

The word I've heard from the people who've seen X3 is that even if you didn't like the first two, it's awesome. So I'm trying not to lift my hopes too high for a famke janssen/halle berry jelly wrestling match, but please god please let it be so!!!

Oh, and did you know you cant make a cupppachino with long life milk? They dont seem to know this here.
Oh, and I went to a van gogh, carravagio and rembrant exhimition...all my favs pretty much under one roof. So inspiring. Van gogh was a jap-art lover!!! makes manga all the more understandibly interesting really!

Hey People,
Quicksilver - Im sooo sorry I missed your call on Sunday. Saturday we went to a wedding, and well, Tom and I got absolutely trashed, stole a coffee cake, dunked our faces in it, then chucked it in a bush; we also stole a bottle of gin and an huge inflatable skittle...
Sunday, we couldnt get up. So I missed the Manga con.:( WE are so bad....
But we got to see Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind...awesome man, awesome...
ITs Toms 30th Birthday this week, and we're celebrating on Sat June 3rd at the Live Bar in Deptford. Nearest station is either New Cross on the overland train or via underground on the East London Line or Deptford Bridge DLR stn, which is opposite the bar.
For those who know Tom, it would be good to see you there. The bar is open from early till 2am. Then we might go into to SoHo to a greek resturant open till 5am, dunno.

Aaahhh okay then. I didn't go to the con on Sunday - had one hell of an unfortunate day on Satrday, bar the con, so me and my bro were pretty damn shattered by the end of the night. Instead we hung out at Trocodero(sp?) last night watching some crazy ass mofos do their thing on DDR. Man do I feel unfit! Hahaha.

Oh, the end of the credits? Nope. Was worth it, was it? Thought they did a great job on Phoenix - cause that story was utterly different to the comic version (which involved most of the action happening on the moon for a start).
And yeah, Kim, wasn't vague enough. Figured out what you meant as soon as that shot started :)

Or just another random meet sometime....Any more news about that?

Really? Hm. Well, as an old school x-men reader, I have to say that I feel the way they did everything was good. Except that they didn't treat Cyclops very well, and he really is the core character in most of the X-Men's history. Obviously the changes in the way they treated other characters were pretty significant, but come on, it's a movie! And I thought the changes to Phoenix's back story were brilliant, and there's no way in hell they were going to invoke all the sci-fi alien stuff they did in the comics. That was, after all, the late 70s, early 80s, when everything had a spacey tinge, so it's to eb expected they'd write that out. This way stays more true to the concept of how mutants are treated as well.
And c'mon, KITTY PRIDE!
Someone wanna give me the link cause I'm too lazy to look?

Incidentally, my faince and I liked X3 apart from Vinnie Jones. They should've just got a WWE wrestler for the part (I'm thinking Batista, because you could believe him running through a wall!). Every time you see Vinnie Jones, you just think of Vinnie Jones.

I believe this is down to bias. I believe however the movie would have come out these people would have hated it. Every single fan of the X-Men have their own favourite bits and pieces. Instead of appreciating what the movie I think has achieved (making a highly successful transistion from comic to live action), its cooler to say the movie's crap, and "I'd have done it this way" , "why'd they leave so and so out". All that bollocks. Forgetting the movie makers have two hours to fit the entire franchise into. Really pisses me off. Not to mention the sheep who just regurgitate and repeat the person with the stongest opinions, who has to verbally attack anything creative to make up for their own LACK of it.
True fans, I believe, will appreciate that the movie was made in the first place.
Sorry about my rant. Needed to voice some opinions. And Dave, I agree completely with you on Vinnie. He's just a twat.

Well, my two piece is X3 was watchable although they could have made the demise of certain characters more heroic. Whereas with regards to the starwars franchise - the original three produced had cheesy lines, but great design and god actors who could pull of that cheesiness to make star wars their own. The recent three prequels unfortuantely had lacklustre acting, poor to moderate designs (a case of form over ruling function or believability) made more apparent by the digital only process (my feeling is that good ole detailed maquettes + blended digital is still the most believable) and poor direction (more action, less story, less plausible character involvement) produced a less desirable franchise.
Stick JJ abramhams in the helm, star wars woudl have been better than great! Look at what he did to the MI 3 series!

June 2nd, 2006, 09:12 AM
Christ I still havnt seen the damn thing! Ive been avoiding this thread like the plague in case i read something that regret.
As for the designs on the SW prequels, i felt everything felt really foriegn to the originals. If you compare them they feel like completely different films, I know they went more that way in the end but the link up felt poorly done. I think i would have been more tempted to put Peter Jackson in control of that one to be honest, I thought what he did with LOTR was amazing.

Hi Chris, Yeah I can. I spoke to the course director before applying to see if I could work full time and do the course. I can do it because I use 3d CAD at work and have a model workshop aswell so hopefully I don't have to go up too often. Lol! I think it came second or third the last time I heard (about 3-4 years ago?). Hahaha. I live in an area with quite the reputation for that stuff too (Pill >_< - last year there were two deaths just down my street and where I used to work, and a couple of knife/gun incidents from what I know of), buuuuut I *think* it's improving, or at least the council is chucking in big cash to bring it up anyway (gotta new footbridge near the Riverfront and they're building a big shopping centre in town. I've heard that tale as well, although all my trips to North and south wales have normally been sun shiny 90% of the time :). What does rain look like down there?

Anyone planning on going to the Italy workshop? I'm not allowed to go unless someone my parents know comes with me. -_- And my siblings won't let me stay in a hostel.

ill be there. 90% likley. if they get round to planning the damn thing cause im gonna be SOOO busy. As for not stayin in a hostel, thats silly. Its such a cool vibe in the hostels... we take over the rooms wholesale and draw till silly hours. Definitly a must do! On yer own in a hostel would suck, but that wont happen :)

God dammit you are 17!! rebel! ignore them, tell them you are mature enough. Tell them where to go! Life's too short!! Well, that's what i would have done...
Brief rant over...
Oh and Sketchling is right - you'd be more secure in a hostel, surrounded by CA'ers who would watch your back and protect you with their life, there is a weird bonding that occurs one the first night when you sit around and draw, now everyone just feels like extended family ^_^
Danny sketch - aaannnd summer pudding and the brave i think.
james Mate the real red baron wasn't actual baron's handstitched together to form a flying machine... Besides my beaut is about that old.
Kian I'll pack my stilletoes, though i can't drive in them, tried, failed.
Right kids, last deadline monday then i'm cool for doing some 'crazy' stuff.

Yeah.....:^^;: And I'll be 18 by the time the workshop comes up too. It would suck so badly to miss out drawing with you guys by staying in a hotel on my own (and cost more). When do you think they'll arrange specific details for it?

Will check and see, if not this one the next for sure. Is "the brave", christian bravery? havent seen hide nor hair of him for ages. Dang this workshop sounds cool, mainly coz of the uk crowd going.

I was going to go on the Florence trip, might put the money towards life drawing instead - or uni accomodation :S, that would be an idea. Also, its hassel to get direct flights to florence.
And the idea of meeting people off the net is a little strange to me. Which doesn't mean people off the net are strange... something like that.
