...Now, DC...did ya give some of the new crew your 'EGG' anatomy demo? hehe:yayca:...
Lol, YES, I was given the Egg demo. ^_^ Twas really helpful too - thanks, Christian! You're a fab tutor~ Er, thanks for the surprise hug/kiss, too, lol.
Fran: Mind if I post some of the photos we took pre/post meet?
Kim: It was wonderful meeting you - thank you so much for the tips and letting me hover over your shoulder as you painted. :)
Chee: Was awesome meeting you - cheers for hanging out with us on the Friday too. Have you tested out the inks yet?
Adam (asguardian?): You're funny! xD At random moments I have flashbacks on stuff you guys said (mainly in Pizza Hut) which makes me burst out laughing. Must be weird for people passing by... Awesome SB too - it inspired me to work on sillhouettes and I think it influenced one of my sketches (will post it when my scanner stops being an arse).
Ben: Amazing SB!! You've conveyed feeling into your artwork really well. I hope to see more sometime. :)
Sam: It was a pleasure to meet you - your explanation on the structure of the face was helpful and I only wish I whipped out my camera in time to snap a pic of you in that arty t'ai chi stance! xD
Zac: Myooo~~ It was great to meet you after knowing each other for so long(ish?). Sorry I couldn't give you a proper hug; was kinda involved with Christian's tutorial. ^_^;;> Will do next time~
Michael: It was refreshing to meet a fellow perfectionist on the path to loosening up! Haha. Hope to see more - will add you to MSN too. :)
Sean: I still can't believe you're only 15! >.< Damnnit, lol. But really, fab SB - I look forward to seeing more~
Aaaaand my mum's calling me for dinner. Sorry to the people I've missed out/didn't get to talk to much. Here's hoping my scanner decides to stop being a diva by the time I get back. >_<;
Take care, all, a really inspirational and motivational meet! :)

Hey! Now you're making it sound like I *didn't* behave! Well, go view the prague photo thread for examples of past behaviour haha - and I passed on the message today, we were all zoned out in YET ANOTHER NANDO'S.
Today was awesome. We met at the Tate and settled, eventually, on sitting on the fifth floor couches facing the river through the huge windows. Sitting there drawing, it was a while before we realised we'd drawn quite a crowd. I don't know how big, I was busily trying not to suck in front of them all hahaha - Kim of course was busily whoring ArtRage to anyone who walked by. At any rate, it was excellent, but I had to keep turning the music up every time I realised people were talking about me. Honest, I can't deal with that very well - think I need to do it more to get used to it.
Next time I think I'll bring my laptop as well, Kim. Should be a laugh :P

Hello y'all English people.
I've never been to England before, but now I am going to spend 4 days in London in mid April. I guess that 4 days aren't enough to view the city but still I wanted to spare some time on eventualy hanging out with any of you guys. You know, in case you'd be up for a scetching session in the tubes or while barhoping or at lifedrawing or whatever....I wouldn't want miss that.
I might not be the coolest, most social or most talented guy out there and we probably have only our faible for CA in common....but....uhm, I though I could give it a try.

Blacky - while you are in london, there is a michelangelo exhibition at the british museum. It would be worth trying to get in if you are interested.
I had a long and eventful day in london, couldn't meet you lot at the tate because me and tony got stuck in covent gardens. Im well dissapointed and my feet kill cos I wore heels. But it was worth it, went to a fantastic book signing at the 'Forbidden Planet' on Tottenham Court Road. Neal Asher is such a decent bloke.
There are some art books there too, I got another star wars one. They have a huge book with all the star wars constumes in, but I couldn't afford it :X lol. Bristol has a forbidden planet as well, so shall be popping over there at some point.
Anyways, had a fantastic time even if I did little sketching, London would be officailly perfect if they sorted the underground out.

There are two workshops every year. One european (Autumn) and One West Side (canada/US) Spring. After experiencing a fantastical crowd and atmosphere in prague, I am determined to go for every european one.
There will probably be a significant amount of Lond/Uk peeps prob going to the Florence workshop. A chance to meet our fellow compatriots across the water. Those European CA artists are really relaxed, talented and cool

Yeah . Prague was so great. I am imagining great architecture and great cheap ice cream in florence. So i might want to plan a 8-10 day trip so I'd sight see and draw the first 4 days, then Concept art, then rest some more...woohoo
Alway's wanted to go to Florence, something to do with the Renaissance probably.
Waiting to see if any Industrial/transport/prop design specialist's will be teaching there though, or if this subject will at least be covered.

I know my word is flawed, for selling out on the last London meet. But I'm gonna try my hardest to get to the European workshop. It'll have to be something extreme to stop me going to it.

Some info about Florence (Firenzi)
Cost of Living & Life in Florence
Famous for centuries as one of the main centres of art and learning in Italy, Florence is now important not only for its collection of art, its museums, and its architecture, but also as the commercial and administrative capital of Tuscany.
The city, with approximately 500,000 inhabitants, is extremely active as regards music, theatre, cinema, sports and recreation: there are, for example, two resident orchestras, and several music festivals are held each year.
The surrounding hills make ideal walking country, while the seaside is just over an hour's drive away. In winter, there is skiing at Abetone or Corno alle Scale, about 80 km N.W. of Florence.
The climate is very hot in summer (25-35 degrees C) and cold in winter (0-5 degrees C).
Cost of Living:
Florence is considered to be one of the more expensive Italian cities and two factors which certainly have an impact on the cost of living are the city's importance as a tourist centre almost the whole year round and the lack of housing for its resident population.
Transport and service costs are comparable to those in the rest of Italy, but property to rent, hotels, restaurants, food and clothing are generally more expensive than in other cities.
One-litre bottle of mineral water: €1 (€1.50 if chilled)
33cl bottle of beer: €2.50
Financial Times newspaper: €2
36-exposure colour film: €5.50
City-centre bus ticket: €1
Adult football ticket: From €26
Three-course meal with wine/beer: From €20
1 Euro (€1) = £0.69; US$1.21; C$1.41; A$1.61
EUI lunches
60 (20 lunches @ 3.00 Euro per day, 5 days per week)
Breakfast/coffee bar
45 (Shoes, clothing)
(BUT in comparison to London/UK. Cost of living/food in italy is like 0.7 to 0.9 for VERY generous portions. So a large lasagne is gargantuan!)

I'm going to Montreal and Florence. To be honest, I've been to all the places they talk about going to for the European ones, so the N Am ones are kinda more adventurous. Also, I'm pretty sure Marko's got a thing for me, so I'm seeing how that pans out.
Kim, I go to a place in Angel, right by the station. 6 quid a throw, mondays and tuesdays. Imery goes once a week and you wouldn't believe his progress, and that guy NEVER LEAVES SOHO except for this.
Yeah, I'm up for more regular showing-off-in-front-of-art-lovers :P

right now it takes me about 40 mins tube ride to get to baker street, im hoping that will get cut to about 20 minutes at least.

Howdy all,
Soz, I've been incommunicado for a bit (I have a whole bunch of lame ass excuses like upgrading my PC, best-manning a wedding and having to do lots of written work for college ;) ) but...
I just thought I'd highlight a new magazine to you all, it's called "Imagine FX".
Now some of you may already be getting this, those who aren't, it's worth checking out, not to find out what Photoshop brushes Ryan Church uses (personally I believe you could give him a Biro and some lined paper and he'd still be great, but that's a whole other rant :D ) but for the "Reader Fxpose" section (yes, that's how they spell it) which this month includes art from two of the people I've seen here on conceptart.org, and someone I've seen on dA.
I'm seriously considering submitting some stuff with the intent of raising my profile, and it's probably worth you guys doing it too? Plus there's some lovely art and useful tips in it :D
Hope this is useful?

Hi Daz. Yeah I have a copy. Not overly impressed with the cover art. Its still a good image, but as you know, we're used to the best here. Duddlebugs in there giving a quick tutorial on orthos which I did find helpful.
However, I'd say most of the content is for beginners. Nothing incredibly jumped out at me. But i'll continue buying, for the pretty good news section, and interviews, and artist profiles like Sparthy boy.
I'd send something off, but I fear it wouldn't get in. And yeah, my low self belief pisses me off too.

Hi peeps. Logging in here from Milano Fashion week (or rather the end of it). Today managed to jump onto the spot the celebreity/fashion designer.
1/ D Furnish - Elton's husband on the same flight with us. I didnt get teh courage to take a cam photo at the last min. dammit.....while waiting for luggage to arrive...
2/Checked into apartment in Duomo central. It was pissing down with rain. So went for a walk taking pictures of the Duomo, and Milano fashion street. Man the stores in Degaleria Duom has to ahve some of the best windo dressing and best PRADA, LV, GUCCI and Macdonald's poshes shops ever. New season stuff here at a fractionally cheaper price of many desirable goods (fortunately since I'm not female, i dont have such vices/foible. heh heheh). Walked over to the Scalla, and down the equivalent of Milan's bond street passing Dolce and Gabbana (which has 3 shop lots..and lo and behold, two guys just walked out of the closing store. Dolce and gabbana in non descipt grey clothing and fur lined hats and scarfs as they walked briskly into teh evening down the rainy street. Should have twigged that someone important was here as 4 mercedes cars pulled up earlier on the street..then flashed past to park on the pposing small aley.)
Again..no guts to take a cam photo as they came out even though i was taking shots of their fantastic shop front......sigh
4/ Dinner was fantastico! Had the best Rissoto and Sliced swordfish at decent prices. here is hopign tommorow is less rainy. Pictures in a bit once i phtoshop and prep them for le web!
peace out!

*edit: and yeah, 3.0 ROCKS. Me and cartoonfox got totally addicted to it on the weekend hehe. But yeah, they're upgrading the servers apparently and it's not intended for primetime yet. Im pretty much running the show on my own at the mo, life drawing, drawing, painting(oil, watercolour, acrylic), digital art. What would you guys get out of bed for of a morning to teach for 3 hours? Nice one sketchling, were in wiltshire. Train links from london are great. In the process of drafting a timetable and cirriculum. Taking a nod from watts. There are a number of classes in the area but nothing of any note, weve steadily built a reputation as a great place to come and learn to paint and draw or develop and improve. Mostly we attract professionals in the area but would like to open that up to a broader audience. We'd have to chat on what you feel would make a viable 3 hour a day, 12 week course. If we can get it booked with 10 people or more, were on. Also if saturdays are all you can do, we're gonna be running several all day saturday workshops throughout the year.
We could negotiate on the rate. Depends on the format of the class. Could extend it to close to 30 pounds per hour for weekdays. Less for weekends im afraid(20)

Be careful Hybridstar with going solo I tried it last year with teaching English to foreign students, they're all for it untill it comes to them parting with money.

i think it is also a matter of ease of accessiblity. If one coudl commute aroudn 30 mins to target point to teach, then a few woudl be willing to share their skills. Seeing as personal time on weekends/weekdays are limited for most I assume.

I hear ya Koshime, hopefully though a good rate would mean that people hopefully wouldnt mind the hour or so commute. If there was a location mid way though i'd consider it at some point but feel i need to concentrate on this area at the mo.
Merlin- It actually would make more sense for us to acquire our own premises. I've been running classes independantly and along with another artist for around 2 years now. It really just started as a resource for the two of us, giving us access to models as and when we wanted it. We both work as illustrators as well as producing figurative work/ portraiture for galleries. Over that time though we have increased in numbers and are outgrowing our venues.
Currently i have just been employed full time one day a week as a teacher to a large art group, but i also run regular evening life classes all throughout the year, painting and drawing sessions all day fridays and full day workshops on saturdays throughout the year. Rent means that we would be just as well off hiring a premises which we could use daily and open up the range of classes we could offer. I was looking for interested people because i cant commit myself to more than what im doing at the mo due to freelance work.
I'll keep you all posted, be good to maybe come to a london meet sometime soon and meet y'all.

Heah, Were based in and around salisbury. Salisbury will be the venue for the full day drawing on saturdays. Planning the first for the end of March or the beginning to middle of April. Just need to fill the places in order to commit. Any CA folk wanting to come can have a greatly reduced rate of course.:yayca:
The train links are great, bout and hour or so and youre here.
Just discovered a new model and used her for my class last night. She is very good, lots of experience and very flexible. Great for those quick poses. She'll hopefully be able to do the first date.

One Saturday in April i reckon, although like i said, gonna need numbers to make it concrete. Its £40 for six hours at the mo, but for you CA folks, how does £24 sound? Two hours of shorter poses in the morning, followed by a couple of hour long poses. Ending in a two hour clothed pose in an environment of some kind. I'll get a few pics up on friday although mostly i work a2 and my camera is buggered at the mo. But i can surely muster up something, or bits of drawings!!!!! lol.
I'm trying to convice most of my weekday regulars that 6 hours would be much more beneficial(which it would) and its not that tiring( blatant lie, i'm exhausted after a 6 hour stint). Gotta get those bums on seats to get it going

Hello, other fellow UK citizens, Summer Pudding told me about this thread :D Cool and nice to meet you all, Im currently in Bedford and are planning to visit London easterish time...anyhow we will be touring around like tourists anyways (I havent been to London before, yes for real...)
What do you recommend for somebody like me who is planning on going there (of course) with sketchbook along ? Have to probably cut down to about 3 different places where to go and one of them quite probably is going to be Madame Tussauds Vaxcabinet (not sure if I find something to sketch there hence are just celebrities whom one could draw from magazines if wanted....) but anyways you never know, what exactly else is there
so what would you recommend for me for the other two places to be ?

Okay, I looked in my planner and, if I was truley paying attention at the beginning of the year when the teacher was calling out dates, I'm free from April 10th - 21st (weekends excluded) for Easter hols.
Fran and I were thinking of spending more than two days in London so more could be done...
Soooooo, anyone else free at some point during those two weeks?

I'm free for the majority of the whole of April. So I really have no excuse for not going this time. *god, I better not have to eat my words*

I don't get any proper holiday time till september, that totally sucks :(. But weekends are still free.

But i'll continue buying, for the pretty good news section, and interviews, and artist profiles like Sparthy boy.
i think you said it there Jon, i think conceptart has spoiled me, the artists highlighted, many are touted as masters and yet i would put many of them in mid range here on CA. A lot of pretty pictures that have no substance.
Some not too impressive uses of colour.
Also no mention of Conceptart.org in their talking about places on the web.
Duddlebug's tutorial was basically why i bought it.
On the plus side the magazine is bring light to this dark corner of the industry, and shows george hull who's latest concept sketches for the island are amazing, pitty they didn't show them
More pushing how to draw paint, before jumping into CG? aah but thats the eternal debate!!
Just seems a bit high render pureness, I've seen more grit in my chips.
Oh and i'm up for london 7th april- 2nd of may or something.

Consider Im going with children too ages 8, 10 and 13, I cleant my room and found the lost "London Attractions - leaflet" and rediscovered the places I have been considering (actually marked with dog ears the first time I checked through this pamflet) so.....
Nr 1. London Aquarium 1000 000 litre, two storey pacific tank there is also some kind of walk through jungles of the rainforests sightseeing there, could be cool idea to stair at a live shark eye to eye without getting my head chopped off :D then they have some new things as well I quote if you are prepared to be emazed and inspired, then come down to the aquarium to see our new robotic fish and witness the results of 3 years development
Nr 2. London Zoo "has over 12 000 amazing animals to discover.
Nr 3 Dulwich Picture Gallery  "The greatest find in London- a magnificent collection of paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck, Gainsborough and many others. Considered to be the most beautiful small gallery in the world. It is situated in the picturesque village of Dulwich, surrounded by parks and fields.. Voted Britain's favourite visitor attraction in 2005-6" and its cheap too, only £4 adults and there is now offer of 2 for the price of one (I think Im so going here !!!!)
Nr 4 Dali Universe, over 500 works by Dali-not too keen on Dalis artwork
Nr 5. SCIENCE MUSEUM Im already interested (good reference place !!!!) "where else can you find some of the world's most life-changing inventions, The Science of Aliens exhibition, an IMAX Cinema, SimEx simulator ride, cages and an amazing store-all under one roof?" will prob have to go here
Nr 6. Apsley House (!!!!!!!) "The Duke of Wellington made his London home here after his victory over napoleon. To reflect his elevated status, The Duke displayed his remarkable trophies, as well as an outstanding art collection including works by Velazquez, Goya, Rubens and Van Dyck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! another interesting place to go !!!!
Nr 7. Cortauld Institute of Art Gallery "From Old Master paintings to impressionist and 20th century art the Courauld Institute of Art gallery has an exceptional, world-renowned collection displayed in the elegant 18th century setting of Somerset House-yet another one
If everybody agrees then we might have two art museums to visit then perhaps the science museum and then Tussaud's Cabinet, then there is FAME THE MUSICAL I have always loved it but wow is it expensive £45.50 per person... still would have to consider it, nothing much beats a life show like that, Crystalline will have to go check those places as well (The Victoria and Albert Museum, National Gallery, National portrait gallery, british museum tate modern, tate britain, nat history museum) so about science museum u r saying its not so much worth it, how come ?

Aaargh!! Blimey... Thanks. I hope it wasn't disappointing... I've got a piece in the third issue too, about illustrating Fairy Tales. I think that the ImagineFX workshops are aimed more at the beginner or improving artist. But like you say, it's good that there's something in print that looks at this field and it's nice to see some familiar artists in print. .
I've been a bit quiet on conceptart for a while but stuff's been hectic with ImagineFX and some other freelance stuff and the day job at Eurocom and a baby in the house'n'all. (And me and poshspice haven't got the net at work anymore so we have to wander down a corridor to go online on the company internet machine... which makes quick browses during a tea break a bit tricky. Boo!)
Koshime... I grew up in North Wales, and Snowdonia is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful place in the UK. Or anywhere i've ever been for that matter. I'd love to move there... sea and mountains... *sigh*...
And if you like snow, you should move to Buxton!! Me and Poshspice have been driving across the moors to work in blizzards for the past couple of weeks!

Hi if anyone would be able to help me out at all with this it would be great!!
For my Final Exam AS level ive been looking at monsters and im going to design my own. But for my final piece i want to come up with my own kind of exam brief. Like for example, BBC have created a new science fiction drama set in the future and they want an underwater monster to attack some of the characters in a certain scene....blah blah you get the idea! ^_^
id then come up with the design for it so basic concept design here lol
It would be great to get some fresh ideas so if anyone has any possible ideas for me to do please message me as it would help me out a lot!!
thanks

Plus you can always check out the creature of the week activity forums for inspiration *stresses inspiration*
But my idea would be, errrrrmmmmmm, design a computer virus. And the anti-virus program (to get you more marks for thinking outside the box). I may be wayyy off what you're after, but you might be able to adapt it.

Wednesday 29th March? I'm still in college then, and with how my English teacher was today she'd probably bite my head off if I skipped hers and the other teacher's lesson ;o; Man, two days after my Graphics exam....[cries]
Art exam next week. I can see it aaaall go downhill.....:nohope:
Btw, that generator is great!! The work they pull out from that....I admit, the first time I saw the url to that link I was a bit concerned, but then when I read it was partially viag's work, then it was all cool. Spam mail contaminates the mind, I tell you!

That is such a cool link... It HAS to be done. That is pure genius. I made an insult generator thing in school programming years back... but this is a far better use for it!!! My initiation : "A shiny eyed penguin charms a lyche in a cave."
I am definitly there badger... whenever ya come down as long as its not till a week from now :P

ha ha - i already did one when i first saw it. it was "A Giant Chicken Meets a Geisha at Dawn" which was a tricky one, but you get cool ideas.... it is on the 3CH thread.
So when is everyone meeting up again in London ? - don't make it a weekday :(
Hey Kim - saw you on the tube the other day ! didn't notice until you got off the tube, but you were fighting everyone to get on the piccadilly line.....

What were the chances of that! in lil london village of 9million. I was probably asleep though. Im so used to the picadilally fight that I seldom even notice except when there is not enough room to read a small book. It takes yogi years to achieve the empty mind trick that tube riders have instinctually....

Lol, aye, I'm avoiding MSN. :P Might go online tomorrow or something.
Aaarrggghhh, those tests sucked. I hate Enduring Love....guess it didn't help that I had about 3-4 hours sleep and an interview that morning too. :S Nah, they weren't that bad really, I'm just too lazy to learn the damn terms, and kept half-dozing off in class, lol. Deja vu!
Still need to work on my intaglio plate...
Glad you're feeling better! :D See ya tomorrow~

March 15th, 2006, 02:42 PM
oh how did your interview go then?
i downloaded the divx thing whatever its called lol and went on the converting part and went into the folder that the videos are kept in and there was nothing in there as none of the file types were applicable apparently anyone know what i can do?
sketchling
March 15th, 2006, 05:23 PM
what are the file types? The usual movie files are .avi or .wmv the second, windows media video doesnt work on anything cause its silly and made by microsoft...so it naturally causes chaos. My guess is that its an wmv :P
Try this... just found it on google. http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlfxmpegwriter.html
If you convert whatever it is to an .AVI using 'mpeg-4' compression... then the mac should play it.
Hope that helps. :D

Just to randomly butt in and say hi and ask if anyone here is in Cambridge or Devon (Tiverton area) - I'm at uni in Cam, but during the vacs I'm at home in Devon, trying to avoid whatever countryside plague is rampaging though the hills at the moment.
