Howdy all
I'm Daz from Doncaster, currently a student and hoping to be a pro (if only to pay off my student debts ;) )
Anyhoo, Molly steered me he and told me to say "Hi" so...
"Hi" :D
I'm not gonna be able to make the UK meet, I'm actually best manning a wedding that weekend (I swear! I'm not making this up :D ) but I read back a little, and the idea of a UK T-Dome sounds cool, and I'd definitely be in for that!
On other possible "community" activities, how many of you guys use "OpenCanvas"? I have version 1.1, and I'd be interested in doing some collaborations if anyone's interested in networking?
Well, I guess that it for my introduction, click my links and say nice things about my art :D Ta :D

Kim, you'll need to be the organising centre for thursday, since you might be somewhere else when people are trying to meet. Or, tell you what, I'll try to be at nando's at 7.30, and people can call me if lost. That way, if your daytime crew are late, it shouldn't be a problem for those making their way to nando's. So, my number for those lost or whatever for nando's is 077 9360 6466. Kim's (sketchling's) number is 078 3542 7141.

Mid Saturday is cool, it's just everywhere is uber busy, so meeting in bristol would be fine, but loads of people would be about. You guys can come round my flat if you like. I dunno who'd be in though. But it's better than nothing. I guess a coffee house is good, there are some nice cafe' s about and i am addicted to coffee. So sat 4th?
I think Eri is in Scotland till the 6th...

Koshime Guess i'm down for nando's.

I'd really like to do 'something' on Saturday instead of pitching up in a pub all day long drinking. SAT 18th FEB ANOTHER meet for the folks who couldnt make the THURs one. (because you guys wont pull a sickie at work....) usual time, 1pm outside wherever you guys wanna go...
For anyone not doing anything TODAY, I'm heading down to the Nation Gallery, to check out some paintings. We may head to the Tate Modern, or sit in a cafe and chat. But whatever we do, it will be art related, a maybe a few drinks in the evening - I dunno. We'll let the wind carry us....

Anyhoo, Folks from up nerth here's my mobile too 07932-907-779 I'll be up bright and earrrrly for the 16th - does anyone know where they'd like to go?
National Gallery, British Museum, V&A, The Wallace Collection? google these places online, and see whats on that you may be interested in....
My painting tutor Brendan Kelly wants to introduce a lil conceptualizing into his drawing class; I need to talk to him more about this, as he asked me if I knew someone in the London area who has excellent anatomy knowledge, and conceptualizing techniques with the art to prove it. I dont know all the details yet, but what I gather, it'll involve some teaching etc... This person will need to be able to do life studies, draw in charcoal/pencil etc...
I may volunteer for this, but if anyone else is interested, please PM me as and when, like I said, I need to gather more info for this...

we made our mind up about where we're going yet? we have all day, so maybe the museum in the morning, to look at and draw dead animals, and then go to a starbucks are something. i don't like pubs 'cos i never ever find a place to sit and draw, it's lame. i'd suggest somewhere indoors though, london is muy muy frío!

It's typical but when I was living and working just outside London there were never any exhibitions on that I wanted to see and I was actually annoyed that all the people I asked where the Natural History Museum was didnt know.
It was'nt till I moved away that loads of shows & conventions started to appear and I was too far away to see them (I moved to Edinburgh) I really must get back to London one day and do the City.

And as to what we do....So many possibilities, just one day. I'd love to see any of the places mentioned. I'm the numberone "Wallace Collection" Fanboy :teeth: , they have An Armoury collection thats truly incredible. And some masterful paintings from famous names as well.

Hey guys, wassup?
I was shown this place by quicksilver, who I met on another forum, and am hoping to come to the meet on the 16th, but I won't be there as early as some of you guys an gals.
As for Tintagel, If thats the way you wanna go, there's a big ass re-enactment event during the summer that might be cool for you guys to go to. Its over a bank holiday weekend and has hundreds of medievil reenactors there, with several battles and other stuff happening as well as living history villages etc. I can get you guys the dates if you're interested.
Looking forward to get to know you guys.

RE: meeting place:
Time: 10-11am? but where?.....
- outside the National Gallery in Trafalgar Sq? Plenty in there to see, master works of Rubens, Valezquez, Caravaggio etc; nearest stn is Charing Cross (northern line, overland trains) Its easy to get to, I'm sure theres a cafe near by we can all sit in and draw; Soho is round the corner too;
- outside the British Museum, nearest stn is Tottenham Court Road stn(central &northern line) or Holborn (central line) theres plenty in there to see, and that new bit in there with the glass roof is pretty cool too, theres a cafe in there and well, we could hang there too
- for the Wallace Collection, we could meet outside Bond Street tube stn on Oxford Street (Jubilee & Central lines) theres plenty of cafes around there, but it is half term, so there'll be alotta people about shopping....
All these places are in and around London. I agree with Cartoonfox, walking around London is tiring, and Id rather look at some cool artwork then sit down in a cafe, draw and chat...
So, 'where' would you guys like to meet?

Just saw a live version of Kungfu Hustle, called JUMP at sadler wells by a korean martial artist group. It is comedic martial arts meets crazy family show. Highly recommended. (by the way, they DO take 2 participants from the audience to negotiate/do some basic martial arts! Been warned. For the women - lots of chest barring of hunky asian men. Watch out for the old man, he's extremely agile.....)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tue 7 - Sun 26 February 2006
Tue - Sat at 7.30pm
Sat & Sun at 3pm
A hit at this year's Edinburgh Festival, Jump is a high octane display of the ancient Korean fighting art of Tae-kwon-do, jaw-dropping flips, dazzling acrobatics and sword fights… crossed with a sit-com
The show centres on a typical, but spectacularly agile, Korean family - from the draconian grandfather and drunken uncle to karate-chopping mother. Each is a martial arts hotshot, all possessing championship level Tae-kwon-do and gymnastic skills, who enjoy nothing more than challenging each other to martial arts showdowns.
Jackie Chan meets Buster Keaton in this hilarious blend of martial arts, acrobatics and slap-stick comedy from the Korean company Ye-Gam Inc.
Get ready for a show that really kicks!

I'd say it's important for the guys in the day to have a plan. In the past, it's been a total mission actually trying to draw anything. Usually there's so much aimless wandering around, nothing gets done. Especially in the museums, where people kinda just keep moving their legs and nobody really studies anything. So make a concerted effort to actually draw something you see, and not move on after ten minutes when you haven't really put much effort into it.
As for the evening, we primarily need somewhere warm. It doesn't really matter if it's a pub, cause they'll only hassle the underagers if they're actually drinking. So that might still be the best bet, cause that allows people to drift in when they're ready, as opposed to a food place, which kinda requires a booking.
Starbucks has never really worked out for a decent sized group, unfortunately.
And what are you on about? Replacement hip? I'm only 22!!

I got no real preference to museum, I want to visit the Darwin Centre in the Natural History, but im planning to stay overnight Wednesday so I can visit that before the meet.
So basicly ill leave it up to you guys who know whats what to decide, you know the areas - somewhere with good pubs and nice atmosphere not too far away!
If thats the British Museum, then cool :)

i think maybe its a good idea if most people have already said the british museum, if everyone says 'I' (hehe) and those to dont want to go just say no
might get sorted quicker

For a moment there, me thoughts A4 or 5 were a motorway/roadworks....
A4 or A5 is the most practical.
It will be a challenge to get much drawn or detailed studies completed by the time chatting/wandering down the museums are done, evening will prob be a time for more socializing/winding down with loads of food (chinatown being nearby as well).
For those looking for places to eat:
recommend:
budget < £7 - 20 per person
Soho/chinatown :
- Misato Japanese restraunt 020 7734 0808 Wardour St (http://www.yell.com/maps/mapAction.do?nat_id=480552&location=LONDON&clarifyIndex=&clarifyOptions=&searchType=classic&replayURL=%2Fucs%2FUcsSearchAction.do%3FcompanyNam e%3Dmisato%26location%3DLONDON%26scrambleSeed%3D30 445%26ooascrambleSeed%3D%26slscrambleSeed%3D)| Food Review (http://www.london-eating.co.uk/1942.htm)

Ahh but the wonders of sushi, Anything on a conveyeur belt moving away from you looks 10 times more delicious
I'm looking forward to the museum as well. There was a giant egyptian 8ft gryphon like statue. And we only got to see the first room.
And the hotdogs and chestnuts right out the front were pretty awesome too.
We should commandeer an Open top Bus, Koshime could be our tour guide. :D
Cass art is STUPENDOUSLY CHEAP by the way. Like 80% reductions and silly things like that . It has saved me the cost of the trip down to london lots of time. (Well, I get the £1 coach :p)
Ben, we might be able to organise a space in our Hostel room, i'll PM you about it.
Can't wait!

Well well! um.. arg...
Crew i'll find out tomorrow if i can make it, when i see my time table, if i can i'll see about crashing at a friends, if i can't do that i'm driving out at night back to mine (Oxford home, not Bristol obviously).
For Dirty_C's age, go look at the neighbours roster.
I'll be using A4, but, shock horror... in landscape!!

Only advice I could offer that might be of some use would be to try adding a lighter desaturated grey into a shadow here and there... the eye shifts it to blue and it feels like bounced light. the dude who does magna carta does that at times to good effect. http://www.jucaushii.ro/wallpapers/index.php?directory=./files/K-O/Magna_Carta

a day card zone 1-6 is gone up to £6.30

Hahaha!
Yeah, I'm just like him, only not an elf, not that old, and not fictional. I also have neither a house nor a council named after me... yet!
This might be a bit early, but I'm just throwing out the idea of another Bristol meet sometime mid or late March? Keep the momentum going on this, but give enough time for people to organise when they can make it?

oh, yes, and i forgot to ask: i was talking to a person at the meet who had a kind of pencil case that could be wrapped up into a small log-like thing. it had little pencil holding thingies and, well, i want one. does anyone know where i can get one or what they are called?

Hey, me and a mate are in london for a book signing tomorrow. We can meet you lot in the late afternoon. Mr T doesn't sketch, but there is nothing like converting people :P.
If you know what pub or whatever you will be in after the Tate modern let us know.
Great pictures.

Anyway, so I'm around tomorrow now. So we're meeting in the Tate Modern? I see you there, bitchen.

So what time are you planning to meet at the Tate cafe? Not sure I can make it, and not sure if I can handle trains twice in three days..But just in case I can get off my arse again....

Now, DC, did ya behave yourself? And did ya give some of the new crew your 'EGG' anatomy demo? hehe:yayca:......
Yes, I behaved myself and everyone got eggs :D
As well as the cute young ladies (hehe) I think the big story for everyone there was just exactly how talented a young bastich can be - Tie's book is amazing, you have to look at it today. Tie, have you got that 'fashion kills' pic online anywhere? I wanna show it to somebody.
And why is it we're not meeting till 3? My hangover isn't that bad, Molly's not drinking, and I'm raring to go!! Anyone else wanna meet earlier?

I arbitrarily chose a later time cause we already had a long meet... and cause I was tired but im rearing to go too, so ill come meet ya soon as i get my life together and breakfast.

ZAChos - ... yeah, 'cause as everyone knows, you only start a sketchbook with pro quality work... :teeth: Chill, and put 'em up bigger in an SB (I can't actually see them clearly enough right now, although I remember the first)! Never hurts to get another opinion.
Eriboss - you'll be at the next Bristol meet? Your pics are so crazy, I want to see how you make 'em!

I have no idea why they shrank like that. I hates you internets!!!
Sure, I'll start a sketchbook, once I've got a slightly bigger haul for the first post.
